  • Why the body paint?

  • He canny dance for toffee

  • forgot how insane this video is.... make that TWO boxes of frogs...

  • Totally brilliant

  • Julian Cope was as mad as box of frogs and crap at dancing but he was a musical genius. I forgot how good this song was.

  • My fave Teardrops song.

  • Not sure if the world was ready for him in early 1981

  • He looked like just another "mulleted" new waver back in the day

  • I remember being in school back in 82. A classmate of mine brought in a tape of Kilimanjaro one day (her older sister was a huge Teardrops fan). She played it at lunch break and danced on the desk with her best friend to this song. :-) That was my introduction to them. I bought the album myself shortly after.

  • Love the bass line.

  • Please, Julian, stop dancing!

  • my all time favourite song. The voice of an angel. Melodies of sublime, subtle beauty.

  • Gorgeous. The musical edginess of post punk with the naive tenderness of psychedelic pop.

  • weźcie mnie trzymajcie bo padne takie fajne

polubie . pl - lepsze od fotki

  • This is a subtle grower. The more I hear it over the years it just keeps getting better and stronger!

  • Julian Cope was actually a very attractive man, and I'm straight!

  • sheer classic...only the best groups came from the uk !!! 80's rule lol

  • @someblokecalledchris I agree. I would be even more specific and say 1979 and 1980, from Liverpool, Manchester, and Leeds. My absolute favourites. Teardrop Explodes are right up there with my favourites, and Kilimanjaro is right up there with the best debut albums of all time.

  • This is new too me...i love it.

  • @HughStirling hahaha! yeah, that and credibility

  • @cupovtean1suga

    They were indeed.

  • the ica london

  • uno de los piantados del rock !!

  • Julian may be mad as a hatter, but his voice is still resonant and lyrical now as it ever was. This is one of my most favourite memorable songs of the 80's cos it reminds me of when I first met my now husband. He introduced me to Teardrops and - though perhaps a little in denial now - was really into them big time then...Remember listening to this hon sitting in front of illegal gas fires, drinking instant coffee on doddery furniture in dingy student let flats ?

  • @pinkusona110363 For me it was one year after graduating from college, here in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. I lived in a small apartment and used to buy expensive import records from a cool 'new wave' record store. Fantasies about this faraway land--England!!!--that produced so many incredible bands...Teardrop, Echo, Psy Furs, JMC, etc etc etc...

  • I often wondered if Live Aid killed everything. The money moguls moved in when they realized how much money could be made. im probably wrong though. Just seems that all those small indie labels that produced such great bands died.

  • Absolute quality, a pity we don't get stuff like this now

  • There were some fantastic groups around at this time, before gangsta rap, so called r'n'b and lip sinc crap polluted the airwaves!

  • thats not true

coldplay is good, but who compares 80's to now adays music, its not even close

  • Thank God for the 80's.

  • Pisses over anything around in the "charts" out now. Genius.

  • these guys are really good. this song is great. alot dont know about it

  • His facial expressions and overall appearance remind me of Dana Carvey.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time. Subtle, sublime beauty. A piece of genius, and what a beautiful voice Julian Cope has

  • only berks argue about pop music

  • some great reposts here!

  • @PokerPlum I agree but just in case what's a whelk?

  • @yassymeeny You're just fucking WRONG. If you cant hear the difference I feel sorry for you.

  • @yassymeeny that's a joke, yeah?

  • @yassymeeny You're having a laugh aren't you?. Coldplay have never done anything as good as Treason or Reward.

  • @flares I agree

  • Teardrop Explodes are just amazing!

Julian is very artistic=) Just excellent!

  • all time classico,go on copey,genius.

  • This and Passionate Friend made life bearable in 81.

  • lewisner i thought 81 was great myself , :o)

  • Great video.

    Excellent track.

  • Did the director of this video go on to do Duran Duran videos? Union of the Snake etc? The painted dancer looks like it.

  • The painted dancer is Julian Cope?

  • @ furakkueroru

Mate, if Julian Cope ate a Coldplay album and recorded himself shitting it out it would sound better than anything they've ever done.

  • @lakeyboy78 Ha! Fabulous.

  • @lakeyboy78 That's pretty good! And true, too!

  • @lakeyboy78 LOL! Brilliant statement man! :)

  • @lakeyboy78 Hahaaa fuckin' awwright! so, so true. Made my day with that comment.

  • @lakeyboy78 Funny as fuck mate!! Haaa!!!

  • Until you realise,

    It's just a story.....

  • Now I know where Coldplay get their sound.

  • ha ha ha ha ha

  • @furakkuerroru: except that coldplay don´t come from liverpool or so....but i know what you hint at......thanx

  • @furakkueroru Then you must think Coldplay sound like Madness. This sounds uncannily like Madness, particularly the piano. I can just imagine Suggs voice on this. Oh and btw all of you who think I"m talking Coldplay, sorry I mean cack, this is produced by Langer and Winstanley, who also produced? Yes you've guessed it : MADNESS. One thing it doesn't sound like is Coldplay. Do you realise it's just a, sorry, getting carried away there, huge insult to the wonderful Teardrops? oh and Madness!

  • @MisAnnThorpe It does! I never thought of that but it also sounds like Coldplay! I like Teardrops, Madness and Coldplay but Im a Metalhead so what do I know?

  • @furakkueroru

The thought of any sentient being comparing The Teardrop Explodes with (clears throat) *Coldplay* makes me sob, loudly and uncontrollably.

    Please don't do it again.

  • This is added to my christmas playlist .

  • Yikes! i really dig this band, but it's kinda hard to "cope" with this video!

  • brilliant track

  • Julian: LIVING LEGEND LIVING LEGEND LIVING LEGEND!

  • Isn't it funny how our idea of "cool" changes so

  • 5*****!

  • Superb

  • I tried to find a plan of action,

But i couldn't get it right.

  • Fantásticos, gracias por colgar el vídeo.

    Un saludo.:))

  • Reminds Me Of Pulling At The Cheshire Cheese ! - A True Classic ! .

  • I still like the song. Most videos made in the early part of the 80's weren't very good anyway.

But I don't let that take away from the song.

  • the music was always good... his aesthetic... not always so much... people always talk shit on that, but julian does look cooler as a creepy road warrior wizard. but whatever the 80s were weird anyway

  • Cools song, lame dancin

  • in the event of going insane whatever i lose will be a gain...and he has gone hasnt he...

  • Terrible terrible Video. Fabulous Song

  • for me, pisses all over their so called anthem "reward"

  • crap video :D totally awesome song. my damn anthem this week

  • Yes! The 80's, a time when swinging your arms whilst dancing was cool.

  • This is in my Top ten fave ever singles !!

    Shame Julian went mad :-)

  • Also in my top ten, but I don't mind him going mad. Happens to the best of us...

  • At least going mad convinced him not to wear headbands.

  • Mad!, how dare you! Thats when he started to make sense! Mad indeed, Heheehe, yeah, I loved the Turtle look on Fried, that was fuckin' inspired! Anyway, Julian didn't so much go mad, Mad went Julian, and it couldn't Cope with him, and now he is my favourite favourite all time Hippy, and I Love Him Dearly.***gush gush*** Does everything with such an understated passion,he's even got a bit of propa Gravitas these days, with his books and stuff...

  • Does anyone else remember 'Eve's Volcano (Covered in Sin)? IT came out on single CD format and was frackin' brilliant ... I reckon it was around then he started to stray from the path of the Great Punk. A bit like Leonard Cohen when he started doing 'anti-depressants' ... he could no longer write the kind of songs he was famous for!!

Turtle look ... mental and beautiful ... after all this time Jules still has enough grey matter left to write a book and shit like that ... I am impressed

  • He didnt go mad, he just rejected our reality and substitued it with his own

  • True, what is madness? When thieves rule and rob the country while children are tortured and/or starved to death? When a million pounds is spent repatriating 1 foreign family while British families go without? Where a murderer serves 3 years and the victims family does life? Where patriots are racists and fascists, bankers are gamblers and robbers, politicians are profligate pirates ...!! Oi, move over Julian, seems we're all 'mad'

  • good stuff, where did we go wrong

  • I love you Julian!

  • Great song and nice "clean" picture quality, thanks for this and "Colours Fly Away"!

  • Julian Cope is total bonkers...but cool...Thanks for posting this !
