His only mistake was that his first cut should have been much higher - at least another 10 to 12 feet. Had he done that there would not have been a problem.
I was shocked by the second half of the vid. The tree repeatedly stood back up dragging the poor chap back with it, before falling all over again. It is remarkable that he survived the repeated onslaught.

@Mathewswitchback7, as a professional tree surgeon, i agree totally. using a chainsaw from a ladder is a truely awfull idea, a man was killed recently near where i live when the tree fell the wrong way and knocked him off the ladder, landing ontop of him. dont do it even if your only trimming a small branch, get a silky (handsaw), or if its too big for a handsaw then get it done professionally.
it seems like after the first one fell on the house you'd rethink your tree cutting strategy. just tie a rope a few feet above where you're cutting and tie it to an anchor point far away. a car would be a good solution so long as the rope is long enough so the tree doesnt fall on the car when it falls.

If you have ever wondered why professional arborists and lumberjacks have to go through all kinds of safety training, this video should answer all of your questions. It's only dumb luck that he wasn't killed.
Not at all. First, topping is not a proper way to trim a tree. Second, it just needed a rope set in it. Lastly, I know because I'm an ISA certified arborist and could have removed that without a rope and put it any place you wanted it.

1. A tree will fall where it's leaning, unless you use counter force like a rope tied to a vehicle to pull it.
2. Don't climb a ladder to cut down a tree.
3. Don't stand directly behind the point of the cut.
4. Don't ever let that guy have a saw, ever.

Not at all. First, topping is not a proper way to trim a tree. Second, it just needed a rope set in it. Lastly, I know because I'm an ISA certified arborist and could have removed that without a rope and put it any place you wanted it.
