No im afraid I couldnt volunteer. Unfortunately I have a certain measure of inteligence and decency. Oh, and Im not a racist or a homophobe. I just wouldnt fit in with todays modern police force.
@PeteJones100 Nope you right because you have no intelect or decency to do anything or help your community just a big opinoin and an amazing sence of self importance ,this may be a shock to you but there are homosexuals in the Police and now days it is really not a big deal to anyone and many Constables from a wide variety of backgrounds this is not the 50's find something else to moan about on your arm chair !
I remember this ad, but 2004? Gosh, seems ages ago.
But still. Why volunteer to be a Police officer when you can become an actual one and get paid? I mean, you still go through an application process anyway.
At least PCSO's get paid, and they even have less powers than SC's.
@MentalicMike90 Actually, S.C's have pretty much the same powers as a regular Constable. The only time where a S.C would not be able to function in the same role would be in a major disaster (such as a train-collision or major gas-leak).
@MentalicMike90 maybe because you already have a good day job and just want to do something different. Your logic would mean why would anyone volunteer to do anything?
Why do people volunteer for things like St John or the RSCPA or the charity shop down the road?
You'll get experience no normal member of the public can match. When you apply and you've got that experience to back you up you've got a great chance. You'll work towards your IPS (independent patrol satus) through a personal development portfolio. Good luck and enjoy it.
Just missed out on my uniform and training that was to commence at the end of this month, have to wait 3 months more since apply 1 1/2 years ago. Expect to wait at least a year to get in folks on average..
it will be area dependant, im in newcastle... it takes around 12 months+ normally... You have to remember a lot of checks need to do, then have to selection process, then the several stages of induction before finally doing some training.

pcbigwillystyle. take a look at the epaulette Insignia on your
shoulder it will have SC with a number below or bars if you are a senior officer. Specials are often school failures, and are certainly not the brightest of individuals. High numbers of aggressive officers from this force are to be found at many public demonstrations. The majority of the SC are a disgrace and an embarrassment to the regular police. forces.
Special Constables do a vital job and mostly are to be respected. I know of one though who is using his position too much and is an idiot who thinks using the police badge gives him a superior position in the neighbourhood - real policmen do not use their badge to have their way!
What makes me laugh is people think they can tell what specials in uniform look like. And that we are only there to direct traffic at village fetes. We do all the duties a regular would, with regulars and get maximum respect. Im currently going into the regulars at the moment its great experience. Also people can make fun all they want, but when they call the police a S.C might just turn up not that they would know they are one. I recommend being a special constable to anyone.
Highly recommended as a volunteer job. It's very rewarding, but be aware that for every adrenaline rush, there's usually a reality check waiting round the corner. It certainly opens your eyes to what society (and in fact people) are really like.
It does encourage the right kind of people they want though; it doesn't spin any stories that imply it to be a hobby/interest/general walk in the park that looks good on a CV.
im 17, signing up when 18. I want to serve the community and see what its like in the police. Not to go around using power lawlessly. Thats very smart actually, the advert!
This is the way British Policing will go. The Specials will be used to deal with the firday night drunks while the paid guys will deal with fraud, armed robbery etc.
Anyone can become a special but you should still familiarise yourself with law, but if unsure you have a radio to back you up.
Not something I would do though as it takes a LOT of commitment
LOL! I know it was two months ago, but that comment really needed recognition :) You have a very sharp eye and some specialist knowlege! Are you in the police force?
ive been a Special for over a year now, and i absolutley love it, its such a good feeling knowing you can make a difference. and help stop scumbags on the streets.
iv been training to be a specail now for 2 mounths and its tough traing iv passed my phase one exam and been issued my uniform(which was great!)im still in uni, and oneday hopefully im going to be a regular police officer, after i graduate so being a special is perfect experience for me and besides the main reason im doing it is to help others!
and the selcetion process is very strict i worked hard to get where i am. its been around a year now since i first started my application
Volunteer Officers...it takes a special person to be one! Almost every service has them. They're not weekend warriors, or police-wannabees either. They're genuine in their interest and dedicated to their oath of commitment. Training is key!!
Specials are bloody good, u know u goatta admire them they go out and police the streets VOLUNTERLY (not sure thats spelt right) but anyway. And for no pay.
Before i became a regular Police Constable, I did this volunteer programe of special constables.. You get far greater respect from fellow coleages. but never enough respect from the public. The question to this video is
Hi, I'm currently going through the selection process for the Metropolitan Police Special Constable recruitment. I really want to be a regular Police officer someday. I hope i am accepted into the Metropolitan Police force. I always wanted to be a Police officer any tips for me?
I have made it through the selection process now, I have been on active service since January 08 and loving it. Its hard though, but if your kean, hard working and put the ''hard'' behind you, you can handle anything and become a great cop.

I didn't realise the process takes so long. A few months, perhaps, but a year seems overly-long to wait.
So you've been waiting 18 months since applying? Not sure where you applied, but I hope it's faster here in London.

It actually is very difficult to get into the Specials and only the best are selected.
So if you see a special as the name suggests they are worthy of wearing the uniform.
