  • Dislike the angry-sounding beginning registration. Should be no reed at the beginning. No 16' stop.

No trill at :41, 1:50, 2:05, and elsewhere? Disappointing.

Love the scale up on the hauptwerke at 2:33 and again!

Hollow registration in the middle makes hearing inner voices difficult.

Disappointing performance of this greatest organ fugue of Bach.

Grade C- due to registration and subject trills not performed.

    Helmut Walcha plays this best.

  • Sarcastic and macabre...

  • Bin the 16 foot from the manuals, PLEASE.

  • Wonderful registration...great performance. I think the tempo is perfect.

  • @cantseetheforest

    I agree.

  • @cantseetheforest : Agwee !

  • This is magnificent.

  • Nice sound but tempo could me somewhat higher.

  • @12345qazx1

I have another version of this work which is pretty fast. Maybe I'll upload it in the future.

  • @12345qazx1 the registration is very heavy, and that enhances the low=impression.but thanks for next upload!

  • @12345qazx1

It's played in organ pleno which the original manuscript calls for.

  • The Wedge! What a colossal fugue this is! Spitta described this prelude and fugue as a symphony in two movements. I mastered the prelude but the middle part of the fugue had me beat. This tempo is perfect. Once heard a historical recording of this played by Marcel Dupre on the organ of St Sulpice, Paris. His tempo was half this one. Lost all its drive, I felt. Thanks, Daniel for this.
