  • one of the greatest paintings of all time

  • tom honeyman, they dont make them like him anymore, legend.

  • i go here to see this painting all the time. its the finest piece of art i've ever saw with my own eyes (not talkin prints here). and teraq93 its a downward shadow cast from a box on the wall.

  • I don't get its phenomenon.

  • @madslasher666 its art, so its like music as far as individual tastes go. to each their own. so many see the mona lisa as somethin incredible. i just see a portrait. thats the great thing about art...no?

  • Right.

  • this is filmed in glasgows religous museum. but this painting has now been moved back to kelvingrove art gallery! Its home! a masterpiece.

  • Just out of interest, does anyone know what the large blackish thing on the wall is at 4.02?

  • Maybe a dead falcon, nailed to the wall, or an elephant's head... Who can tell? All you need is to look into Dali's wide open eyes, and you get the same feeling...

  • Beautiful painting, but how true & visionary Mr Honeyman was; it is also him a lot of honor should be given!! Always I am struggling to justify my next art purchase but years after I am always pleased. Thats art; it worth fighting for!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting this. This is one of my favorite Dali's and it is interesting to hear the story behind it.

  • Es una visión mística de la crucifixión, digna del Siglo de Oro. Dalí fué un genio.

  • stunningly beautiful painting - awesome.

  • To me there are two paintings in the whole world that are unquestionably the best Christs on the cross paintings. One is Velazquez's and the other Dali's. One from the Clasics the other from the master of Subrealism. I have seen them both and they have the same thing in common "genious". To choose is very hard!

  • Clasics painted with "realism" things as they were in front of them. The subrealist does not paint by eye, the product comes from a vision of reality. Dali's very beautiful but also powerful image.

  • I have never liked art, to me it was all just pretty good painting.

However i seen this work in person and it is the only painting that has ever touched me emotionally when i seen it.

    it is very very powerfull

  • See not one expect Christ to be seen from that angle. We can see so much symbolism on this painting. Christ above the world, gentle, pure, self-sacrificed, but conected to something divine. He seems powerful in a pasive and loving way. It is hard to explain all what the picture symbolices.
