The best drummer for Motorhead! He might be a bit sloppy here, and he was never on a technical level of, say Mikey, but his playing is just pure awesome. Knows when to do what, has energy and power, and who needs perfect timing.
He's my Dad's cousin, which kinda makes him related to me, right? Anyway he's a pretty fucking awesome drummer, I hope I can one day be as good a drummer as him.
phil taylor is fuckin ace drummer.....he may not be perfect but you know when a riff is breaking down, about to bost off into a solo or chorus, phill knows exactly what drum roll or fill to put in at the exact time....aggresseive timing cant be acheive by perfection....stick ye click tracks up ye ass for this guy....listen to "fire fire", the drum roll in the middle gives me goose bumps every time...mikkey aint got a patch on this guy...as for pete gill...well..lol
The Classic lineup, Eddie, phil and lemmy was so great, so raw! But mickey dee has more power and is more tight. I like both line ups. I think phil campbell is a exelent guitarist and he fits motorhead perfectly.
@cloudoni ... never...Mikkey D is absolutly fantastic but nobody can replace Philty. It were nice to see both on a spezial tour.together with Eddi and Phil...but thats a dream that will never come true... :-(
@cfmidenceh1 Do you think he would call the current line-up the second best, even if it was true... The truth is that todays Motorhead is nothing compared to to Bronze-era Motörhead...IMHO of course.
@miisu not my words man. Lemmy said that in That metal Show, if you wanna complain talk to the metal god... becouse seems like you dont agree with him
Phil is fine. I think Mikkey is better, and its not just some "technical vs. organic" mumbo jumbo which is a backhanded way of saying Phil is better. He's not. The band isn't missing a thing with Mikkey and Phil Campbell over Philthy and Fast Eddie. Love the old stuff, but the lineup now is the best the band has ever had.
i dont play drummes i play guitar, but this guy was one of my heros growing up,when motorhead was on tv mr taylor would always get my attention,my dad was an old fart and he would say look at his guy playing the drums.
Sorry Mikkey, but Animal Taylor is the only true Motörhead drummer there is...for me anyway. Mikkey is still a great and perhaps more technically advanced drummer, but he lacks the rawness and attitude Animal-Taylor has. I say, get Phil back into Motörhead, Phil and Würzel. Loved the 4-piece band.
@Angus1973Young I've readand watched a tons of interviews with Lemmy and Animal, and I've never come across where neither of them have said this, sorry. Würzel left after the recording of 'Sacrifice' back in 1995, he is still friends with the others, but he wanted to do other musical projects. I think he was into electronica for a while too. He has appeared with Motörhead a number of times as guest. Lemmy gave Phil and Würzel kudos for being good, so he wanted both to stay back when they joined
Great stuff from a man who hasn't played professionally in many years. Philthy was a zany character. Never really had any success playing with other musicians but 100% the right drummer for Motorhead at that time. A bit like Keith Moon in that respect.
When I heard Motörhead for the first time I heard Overkill and the drumming of Phil made me say "What the fuck? Who is this drummer?" And that was a big influence for me to start playing drums and I have played now for about 8 years!
"Motorblog Philthy Animal Taylor: Is alive and well despite some cruel web-posting to say he died of AIDS after using heroin; in fact, Todd Singerman actually called Phil to notify him of his 'passing' and Phil agreed that both his death and the reason for it are complete bollocks! There was even a comment from Lemmy about his long-time drummer's 'death' which sucks even more!"
Man, he ain't what he used to be. Back in the day, Phil was killer, though. Extremely cool style, "frantic" is the only way to describe it. But, as far as ability, Mikkey buries him, any day of the week.
I worship Philthy. Mckey Dee is obviously better and more energic (younger too), but I prefer Phil's more.... sloppy playing. I sounds pretty damn real and killer.
Kilmeister, Clarke & Taylor epitomise Motorhead, the other guys for me just guest.
In the current Motorhead set list over 50% of tracks are nearly thirty years old, i.e. from the KCT era.
