  • 0:51-1:06 is one of the most beautiful 15 seconds in music.

  • Absolutely stunning!

  • My name is Eider._.

  • marvelous ...

  • Can't get enough of this incredible song. Full of atmosphere and emotion, almost a movie in miniature. Kate Bush simply gets better and never fails to surprise. Can't stop playing the new CD, one of the best releases of last year in my opinion.

  • Wow. I've been a Kate Bush fan for decades, and I thought she'd lost her power, but this is amazing. How can someone make a song about almost nothing, and give such powerful emotion and expansive nature?... and yet keeps it contained in humility.

I was just discussing with a friend who is the greatest female artist of the last 50 years. Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, and others. But this clinches it for me. Kate Bush is a force of nature.

  • kate why do not speak

    why not be strong

    your voice

    is unique

i know you are an artist so does the rest of the population

  • @3cats59 Thank you! I am glad I am not the only one who can tell that this particular song lacks the power, the charm, and the presence Kate has so often brought to the table.

  • Przy takich utworach brak tylko drugiej dloni.

    pozdrawiam.

  • Would Li beat them? It upset me.

  • Okay, I've loved Kate Bush for ages. I'm from Reno, so I've been to Lake Tahoe a million or more times. This song is okay-not one of my favorite pieces of hers, but okay. Now, what does the song, the title, and the puppetry have to do with each other? Kate, you're a deep artist, but this is doo-doo: Deep doo-doo. Seriously, this song should have featured on "American Horror Story," that's how badly it creeps me out.

  • @TombstoneLizard i think the song chills out after the intro, but the first 2 or 3 minutes are incredible!!! (espcially the part with the slow rising piano arpeggios)

  • @TombstoneLizard Ok..we get it..you don't have much of an imagination and cannot comprehend the storyline here and how it relates to the song.

But that's no reason to be rude and disrespect one of the greatest artists of our time, nor question her decision making. You say you've loved Kate for ages? Is that how you speak to the people you love? Yikes.. Have more class next time for pete's sake.

Kate is a big girl..she knows what she is doing.

  • @Nightbird Yep, Kate's a big girl, all right. And with that comes the ability to handle a touch of criticism now and then. I have a great imagination AND most of her albums, which I have enjoyed since 1985. Sometimes artists go off track, it happens to all of us in some way. But I did not disrespect her, nor was I rude. I wrote a concise critique of a song lacking in both charm and melodic power; things she has proven to have in abundance in her long career.

  • Ah, Kate...

  • Very beautiful and somewhat reminiscent of Laura Nyro

  • or type into google smoking apples theatre company and check out our website

  • We are the guys who manipulated the puppets for this video! find us on Facebook - Smoking Apples Theatre Company - enjoy!

  • @smokingapplestheatre For some reason this video really touched me and made me tear up. I think because I am a huge animal lover..especially dogs..and it seems like the dog was sad and wanted to be free..and then his spirit left his body to seek that. It reminded me of long gone dogs of mine..and where there spirits might roam now. Who is taking care of them now if not me? Ok..getting too deep here..

Thank you for touching my heart with this video. Keep up the good work.

  • @Nightbird I felt the same :)

  • @redrobot77 Thanks for understanding.. =)

  • @ cloud74buster this is not about your bigoted Greek biased hatred and Turcophobia this is about the stunning Art of Kate Bush leave your prejudice at home

  • What a beautiful video!

  • so sweet...

  • bellissima canzone video superlativo grande kate bush

  • Gorgeous!

  • This video uses the ancient technique of marionette shadow play. By no means easy and an extremely evocative way to translate this song into imagery.

  • @znoraa1 Hello, Smoking Apples Theatre Company here! An Ancient technique yes, but the puppets we used were rod puppets, not marionettes! But yes very hard to control, the shot with the trees coming in from the side took 25 shots! :)

  • What a hauntingly beautiful song.

  • What's wrong with my brain that I don't understand what this video's about? lol Can someone please explain it to me? I thought it was about a dog having a dream about running around and then coming home. I came here via Nail Nerd.

  • @TheMadameHannah Oh, it's a common problem with this short snippet. The original song is 11 minutes long and tells the whole story. It's titled 'Lake Tahoe' and belongs to '50 words for Snow'. Listening to the whole song is essential here :) Hope it helps. Everyone can interpret the story differently.

  • I miss my dog friend Louie. Elder Falls in Burbank. *sentimental sigh*

  • Cello Klavier Summen Träumen, sehr sehr Gut

  • Many years ago "The man with the child in his eyes " made this little boy cry. This middle aged man just cried again, but now as then in a good way!

  • awwwwwwww

  • love the album but this is the song that sticks in the head

  • Very nice song with deep feelings and melancholy melody. thumbs up

  • we will look at this in 10, 15, 30 years and still feel it's completely fresh. BRAVO!

  • so deep

  • Elegant and haunting. Brava to Kate and the create team behind this the work of art.

  • very creative!

  • Made me miss my dog terribly, and I'm not a sappy person.

  • @StrollingWolf Tears were rolling down my face watching this... I had a beautiful greyhound a few years ago.. Totally reminds me of him.

  • I'm loving these gorgeous animation pieces and we've been totally spoilt as fans the past few months.. i'd love to see Kate on film performing the last album, just her and her piano or backed up by the band, something intimate, that would be the icing on the cake.. a live performance of snow with some old favourites thrown in.. (I can dream)

  • And you might see... a wonderfully tangible & real video. Good to see clips where you can see that human beings have crafted it.

  • Beautiful work! Kate your vision continues to inspire me. Congratulations on such a gorgeous piece.

  • Very nice .

  • Love this.

  • Prefect!!!!

(in greece, we call this technique of performance ”shadow theater”, we claim to consider it as a traditional show, though it originally comes from the far east. In turkey, there were also plays with that kind of performance, alas, the neo turks’ revolution tried to vanish that kind of entertainment for the people, as it supposed to be indicated only for lubens & outcasts. The thing is…….Kate, you’re a genius!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

  • I can't help but see the similarities between this video and the video for Little Dragon's 'twice'. beautiful animation nonetheless.

  • @disneynhollisterchic You either need to learn to spell or type. So glad that when I type "Kate Bush," I don't go to the trash bin of Kie$a.

  • @keithdeweese u knows you might like trash bin of Kie$a .w i started thinking of a taco and we know ever one loves a taco

  • Did Kate do this video/animation herself?

  • this is such a beautiful, simple video, makes me feel emotional, thank you Kate <3

  • Is it me or is Kate taking notions she had as a child and exploring them with her adult mind? I think her son Bertie has a lot to do with this. He must be a huge inspiration in her life now. Fair play to her, she's still taking risks instead of being boring and settling down into middle aged mediocrity. What an inspriation that woman is. Kudos to Kate.

  • @Eamonnnn that's an intriguing thought, very well said

  • @danere1 Thanks Danere1. Glad you like it. I never expected so many people would like that comment.

  • Yes Kate, I've missed you

  • I'd be interested to know what ppl think would be a better video, I like this as it is, understated and sparse like the song, less really can be more sometimes

  • Very nice, but i would love to see a vid of Kate sat at her piano singing this.

  • @catswiskers2 So would we all! Oh well...

  • Pure Kate...

  • Another lesson in style and class from the ever inspired Kate Bush ;)

    This is delicious . . .

  • Love the method of Animation. It must have taken a long time to work out and choreograph, but its worth it in the end. It provides a unique quality that only a Shadow play can give you.

  • Very nice, suits the song well. This together with the other aninations is turning 50 Words for Snow into Kate's cartoon album! Still, I would actually like too see her occasionally, nicely done though.

  • YAY! Just amazing and wonderful. THANK YOU.

  • fifty words for wonderful? Kate x 50

  • x)

  • Beautiful

  • The inimitable Kate Bush (although some try). Fits the song perfectly.

  • @thedivers100 Another Kate Bush fan hampered by their... I'd like to say arseiness but I'll go with pretentiousness.

  • @arabiansanchez at least the critique was well-expressed and thought out...mannerly and without malice.

  • @reliableandrew I wouldn't say 'a video of a shadow play is not the same thing as a shadow play' is particularly well thought out. Since I can't attend a live performance of Kate Bush's shadow play I'd rather see a video of it than an animation representing what it might look like.

  • @thedivers100 Huh?

  • @thedivers100 I love the video, sure I'd love to see the real thing, but hey Kate Bush is not going to come and do a real shadow play in my living room! So this will just have to do. (I also reckon that she isn't worrying too much about the cost.) Love the video!

  • simple and beautiful..

  • Como mi Luna!

  • Bewitching! (thank you so much!)

  • Beautiful, Ms. B.

  • Perfect animation to go with such a haunting song! I could watch for hours and hours and listen forever! Thank you SO MUCH! something beautiful to enrich the world!

  • kate bush popped in my head last night, very random. she was making the "shhh" face / motion.

    WEIRD.

  • Here at last, how long we've waited!
