This is the California Grey whale. Those who on the U.S./Canadian pacific coast is very familiar with this gentle mammal. BIG QUESTION IS how did he get from the Pacific (they only live there now) to the Atlantic, and then through the Straits of Gibraltar, to the Mediterranean off the coast of Israel? This is a BIG MYSTERY. Speculation is that during the melting of polar ice last summer, the whale swam to the Atlantic Ocean via the northern sea routes and then to Israel. A CRAZY LONG DISTANCE!
