Drogo is a very interesting caracter and it's sad that he's gone in season 2, but that's how the story goes. It's not like they killed him off. I hear the book does a good job at misdirecting you but when it's put on film, visually, you get the idea that this is going to be a multi-generational story and with the ending of the first episode, you do get the sensation that no one is safe.

As such, it feels as though any badass character who are of an elder generation will be giving way to a younger generation who themselves will rise beyond

No offence to Native Americans but the Aztecs and Incas were rather savage before they became colonized. The people of Westeros remind me more of medieval Europe, with the Lannisters reminding me most of all of the Borgias, just worse.
