  • I just LOVE the crime shots/sequence. Freaking brilliant!

I've watched this so many times over the past weekend. Perfect with the music.

    Just AMAZING!

  • Nice love it

  • Sophie Ellis Bextor - "Murder On The Dancefloor "

to this song vidio stunning effect it

  • Ghostland Observatory!! got it, it is good not to let my ADD take over me until the end of the video.

  • I need that beat!! Who is musical artist?

  • hi, i got a sony alpha 200 on summer.. I am starting to work on a teen magazine at my town. I need some good and cheap lenses for sport photography and other party activity .. Please give me some info on what should i buy

  • Hey dude, I would recommend a couple of fast, cheap primes, like a 50, 85, 105, stuff like that, depending on what your shooting? You'll get wicked fast glass (necessary if inside) on the cheap, with amazing, sharp lenses to boot.

What kind of sports are you looking to shoot?

  • @CapturePlay you are very wrong. Primes for sports? seriously?? No... he/she should use a 70-200 2.8 if sony makes that. OR something close to that lens. a 50 is not going to do much unless the scene is set up. Sports are constantly changing. Therefor you need a lens that can change with it. Primes are the most ridiculous idea for sports photography. Sports portraits, yes.. but not action photography.

  • love your work...

  • Nice concept, and music but which kind of musician is it?

  • getting controversial...Chase is a good photographer no doubt!... and I also don't agree that you need to go to your local University to understand light, or to get the same quality result... bullshit theory perhaps...don't get me wrong. Education and educating yourself is proper, but

Experience, experience is where it's at!

Beauty or appreciation for the art is in the eye of the observer.. as for the artist himself, it goes the same way...

speed of light....maybe something to observe next..

  • lets all argue about somthing thats completely personal opinion.

  • Terrible lighting.

  • Are you serious?? dude the lighting fits the element of the photographs that he is taking, are you suggesting that all pictures should be flood lit like a football pitch?

Lighting is a creative element and i think he has done an excellent job to add mood to the pictures.

  • I'm afraid I don't agree with you. Dude.

  • cool, fair enough.

  • Aperture.

  • i dont know, but i wasnt that impressed.. the lighting wasnt all that to begin with. thx for the video anyhow

  • Please do show us your work then :)

  • my work isnt at "that" level. all i know is i dont need to take 2000 images to choose one 6.

Sure there where some nice frames but overall the lighting in the majority was really bad

  • You have a lot to learn...

I highly suggest you pick up a class or two. Check your local University, you would be surprised what some offer :)

  • Thanks for pointing that out to me...

Still wont make this video any better than were its at. I may not be a Hassy master but i can quickly see that 0:44 - 0:49 would be rejected for the reason i listed above/ below

  • I don't think that is a fair comment about how much frames he has taken at the end of the day he is exploring all possible angles of each shoot to choose the best one's.

This is possibly why your work is not up to that standard (dare I say mine also)

  • It's a good thing Chase isn't a professional, or anything.

  • awesome!!!

  • ey chase nice video mate. just wondering, where is that golf driving range located??

  • greeeat pics.... 0:52 reminds me of counterstrike XD

  • мне понравилось ! молодец

  • those composites are so seamless!

  • fantasic!!!!!!!太棒了!!!!!高质量的闪光灯也是造就好照片的一个重要因素!

  • woow cool

  • I love your composites! Some of them are just funny, especially the guy jumping off the ledge. Nice!

  • Hasselblad H3DII-39 $30,000, im guessing u used this?

  • only 6 to 10 of the 2000 images will have a commerical life?

    yeah, right...

dozens if not hundreds of images from these shoots are currently marketed on gettyimages.

  • so amazing dude

  • In-cre-dib-le.

    Bravo, Chase.

  • AWESOME!!!!!!

  • Really awesome.

  • LOOOOOVE this vid... What i like most is the lighting and the swim picures....

  • inspirational

  • hooooly cow.

  • I am a beginner and your work is incredible! and gives me something to work towards.

  • awesome!!

  • nice m5 ;)

  • I'm wondering what's the name of the song used in this video, It's been stuck in my head for a week now O.o

  • Song is Midnight Voyage by the amazing band Ghostland Observatory. Great track!

  • Thank you SOO much!

  • Mike, starting with a Hasselblad file is a benefit, as the color and tonal gradations are super smooth, and give a lot of leeway in post. On these images, the favorite photoshop tools were channel mixer, hue/saturation, curves, and selective color. Play with the blending modes of your adjustment layers to build texture as well as fine tune color.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • I like that kind of desaturated and cold look to the photos at 4:00, 4:16, 4:37. How is that done?

  • Just good ol' Photoshop. Some desaturation, contrast and tonal work with a mask here or there. I'll see if Scott can chime in...

  • Yep, a nice reminder that even pros have to go through hundreds of shots for the right one. It's just the level of complexity that goes up!

  • this is what photography is all about: take thousands of photos for that "fine" one

  • Hi there!!! its just an awesome video, dont have words for the pictures, as all coments just told the good they are, but i ask mysel, which program did you use to do the video?? the music feet perfects and the transitions are really cool, something i cant get from the programs i'm using...

    thanks & cheers!!!!

    Jimbo

  • Jimbo: made it using Apple's Final Cut Pro video software. Amazing stuff.

  • ooo s**t!! i'm PC user :(

    thanks for your answer!!!

    keep rokcing!! love your work!

    lot 2 learn from u :P

  • Wow...a pleasure to watch, there's nothing like a great photographer.

  • Hi Chase, my name's Saul, from Spain. I really LOVE your work, very impresive. Hope you dont mind me asking, how many flashes do you usually use when using green screen? And my last question: Do you use Photoshop plugins? If so, which? Keep up to good work and PLEASE keep on posting your vids, fantastic work dude!

  • I use as many flashes as I need to light the subject as I like, regardless of green screen or not. We don't use Photoshop plugins.

  • Very nice video, pleasant to watch!

  • Two words... bad ass. Your photos and style are crisp and rich. And nice editing on the video.

  • Well your work is really amazing but I guess you get that a lot:) I've been following you since the Hasselblad Masters Award and I can say that I really impressed. Thank you very much for the inspiration:)

  • Chase, I really adore your work. Two questions:

    1. Did you take all the images involved in the composites? (i.e. the cityscapes, cloud, etc.)

    2. Have you found any good way to prevent the green from contaminating other colors throughout the scene?

    Thanks!

  • 1. Yes.

    2. We use green or blue and have few pollution problems... try to choose one of those colors based on what the subject to be composited does NOT have on...

  • Thanks for the clear results. And do you have a link to a personal gallery? That additional work is just as superb as the other stuff.

  • My url is embedded in the video above. Or, just Google my name and there will be a few links.

  • Wow man this is some wicked stuff. I envy you your job... Asome to see someone fro Seattle take it big time!

  • Love the opening sequence and composites in particular. Great work!

  • nice video

    nice photos

    great work!

by the way, what is soundtrack to this video?

  • Midnight Voyage by Ghostland Observatory - used by permission.

  • Gotta love the BMW M5 featured at 1:14. :-D

  • Dinan Stage 2 ;)

  • Nice taste. Check out M5Board(dot)COM; the best forum out there for the M5.

  • great work chase, thats all that can be said.

  • wow that was dope! great work!!!!!

  • Yo Chase, thanks a ton for putting this up. Your photography is sick. Hope to keep seeing you on Strobist. And this music is really tight too.

  • Great work Chase!

All those pictures were shot in RAW?. If so, what program you used for converting that big batch of images?

  • Thank you for sharing your work with us...

i wonder if there was some trouble with law forces in the car highjaking scenes :)

  • we definitely had all our permits to shoot those shots, streets blocked off and police standing by on set to ensure nobody mistakenly thought this was the real thing ;) Great question!

  • love your work Chase

this is probably one the coolest one any photographer has made about their work

also enjoyed the podcast with Lightsource

you and Dave Black are just great photog who loves to help out others

    keep it up

  • Thank you Jarvis. I can't wait for the next video!

    Debbi

  • Also, do you use Lucis in your post processing? I love your work and enjoyed your interview on Lightsource podcast!

    Debbi

  • Debbi: we don't use the photoshop plug in Lucis, we prefer doing it by hand in Pshop. But glad you dug the interview over at Lightsource!!

  • I love the music you choose. What is it?

    Debbi

  • it's by permission from the band Ghostland Observatory, track is "Midnight Voyage"

  • Chase!

The final frame at 0:44, what did you use for the 'smokeish special effect'? was it some kind of powder?

    -lien

  • Lien: Good question... It's actually powdered sugar thrown into the scene and then backlit

  • Song is Midnight Voyage by Ghostland Observatory off latest album Paparazzi Lightning!

  • great scenes ! i'd like to know the name of the song used in this video please. Thanks !

  • hasselblad flash can be used at all shutter speeds

  • Just Curious.

At what speed does the Hasselblad sync to your strobes?

Love the work. Keep it up.

    -Brian

  • Hey Brian: it Syncs to 1/800th (which is as fast as the shutter is on that camera)

  • Thanks for sharing this with us :)!!!

  • I cant believe the composites! Great photography Chase, You rock hard.

  • thanks...thats interesting....

  • nice...i like the green screen..but how do you get the same lighting effects on the models as the real background.....

  • great question millisitch - we selected our background images in advance of shooting the composites and then had those images on set with us when we were shooting so we could match 'em.

  • Super cool idea and execution! It's really fun to see the story of the photo shoot from start to finish.

  • I just love seeing all of the behind the scenes stuff. It's really great to get a glimpse at what goes on in the editing process. The whole idea of getting to see behind the scenes is maybe the only side effect of reality television that I am happy about !
