I doubt her self esteem is low, Rosie and Howard are two extremely intelligent individuals, I think the problem is that the image they've had for so long causes a clash with their respective followers.
For Howard it's been easy because he's straight and a guy, and for Rosie it's been very hard because she had to rely on a more family oriented image, but now that she's more relaxed and open, I think it's great that she's finally evolving her image to better represent what her mind has to offer.

I still can't come to terms with the fact that Howard likes Rosie now. Then again he's never said she's funny, he's only said that she's an intriguing personality which makes for great radio. Still, I prefer the days when Rosie was the butt of all the jokes. Personally I think Howard is just trying to stay in good standing among the lesbian community, just like Larry David.
