It should be simple enough to find out what went wrong, all companies need to present WSBC with a 'Job Specifics Form' which outlines how a company is going to proceed with a job such as this. To all the people that are crying 'race issues here' you obviously haven't seen these east indian companies at work in the construction industry? Drive by a residential site and see their fall protection practices, there are none! Just a matter of time before people are killed cutting corners!
Mayor Gregor Robertson too busy promoting Mixed Martial Arts punch up on Saturday to ensure City of Vancouver doing its job here . Looks like he took one to the head himself!
Look at the traffic light swinging when the wall comes down. What kills me, if you have seen the other two vids of this, is the workers just shrug it off, AND KEEP WORKING! It is lucky no one was hurt.
We see this "trend" in the crap houses going up in Tsawwassen. All construction poorly and cheaply done by EI crews, but expensively finished by Caucasian crews. Developers then asks almost $2 million for these pieces of garbage.
If the City of Vancouver allows this company to continue operations, and if in the future these people cause injury or death, the City will be held equally vicariously liable for damages. The owners response to both walls collapsing on the street? Basically the media is making a big deal about nothing because there werent any fatalities. WTF???
No surprise this is a James Schouw project. He sells condos at high prices but cuts every corner possible including finding fly-by-night demolition companies. Would you really pay top dollar for anything he had a hand in constructing? This will just be the first of many subcontractors, but most will not make the news so you won't hear about them.
The company in charge of the epic fail was Global Excavation and Demolition, a Surrey, BC company, run by Jagjeet Singh Panesar and Karmjeet Singh Panesar. I wonder if they were using 3rd world style demolition techniques. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
The fencing should've been several metres into the road, if they had taken into account the height of the building and prepared for human error. Safety, obviously, was not considered. Someone could've died here.
AND, the construction worker walks over the the black car, nonchalantly - it doesn't seem that he is even remotely concerned for the safety of the person(s) in that vehicle.
Instead of stopping after the first collapse onto an open street to see whether there's a better way of approaching this demolition, this fool company keeps on smashing and risks everybody's safety, dropping another slab of concrete onto the other street? This driver needs to be fined, the supervisor taken out of the construction industry forever and the company have its license taken away. Will any of that happen? Having lived in Vancouver, I say with confidence: probably not.
this is common i'm afraid. i've seen runaway wrecking balls. the guys operating the shovels are cowboys who only laugh when this stuff happens. they get their licence by mail order.
The demolition was being carried out by Global Excavation and Demolition, a Surrey company incorporated in April 2007 and run by Jagjeet Singh Panesar and Karmjeet Singh Panesar.
i just watched this on the news! un believeable.. more unbelieveable that the worker interviewed had a comment to the effect that he doesnt see what the problem is and the news people must be having a slow day to blow this out of proportion.. sheesh.
These guys DON'T know how to do demo. AS A MINIMUM, they should have used cables around the horizontal bond beams on the external walls, tied of to structural supports inside the building, the minimizing the risk of any walls collapsing outward.
Booo, I missed the action. I saw some of it early on gettin demolished, but was on my lunch break and had to get food.
Kind of them to have left glass all over the sidewalk with no signs warning as such.
There was only one girl to ward pedestrians off of the sidewalk too, and she wasn't doin a very good job as people often went to their cars right in front of the building, and everyone was standing across the st taking videos with their phones haha.
Oops. Guess demolition companies don't have the same intel that us fire guys do - stay a distance 1.5x the height of the building away (and make sure everyone else does the same)!
Also, when a building nearly falls on your car, for those who are playing at home, the proper response is NOT to stop your car right there and open the door!
@Jay91150 The wall has come down already so it is now safe to open the door and let the proper authority's to investigate the damages. Can't believe they didn't have that street closed off temporarily till the walls where down. Think safety, safety, safety.
OMG!!!! Real pro's!!!! I mean wtf!! This actually makes me ANGRY! F*ck man! How can you NOT see that coming!!!! Jesus almighty! I hope the guy driving that thing watches this and see's this.
If you don't know what your doing. And what your doing can cause bodily harm to people. STOP! You retard! Creationist can consider this proof that we indeed descend from monkeys. And some have a ways to go.
this demolition company should be sued for all damages and shut down for good. stupid South Indians running these companies who have no clue what they're doing
Watching The Cecil being torn down this very moment. So far nothing as catastrophic.
