There it is, the heavy metal singer with the greatest range, from the lows to the highs. Geoff Tate is simply one of a kind. I still can't understand why is it that QRÿche has never made a decent release of this show, on CD on DVD on BlueRay or however, but that amazing performance deserves to be available. Cheers mates!
Somewhere between Ronnie James Dio and Rob Halford, Geoff Tate still goes largely unrecognized as one of the great vocalists in rock history. Strong songwriting, an artisans approach, and a cohesive virtuoso's execution from the band that goes all the way back to when they were raw separates them from most of their peers. I would really like to hear Operation Mindcrime done this way.
Geoff's performance and whole band makes this=best Unplugged have ever seen+heard! emotions flowing through whole body.....closer to perfection as anyone can get,yet so humble, beautiful lyrics...enough said:)-thank you very much for sharing!
I think this was the best unplugged of them all. Alice in chains and pearl jam were awesome as everyone knows, but this blew me away. This band were way ahead of their time.
As far as I can see. There is no better live vocal performance then what Tate did in this session. It was absolutely mental!!! This was Tate at his best. If there is a better live vocal performance anywhere then please let me know. Good luck!
@MrTeslapower, yeah there is better of him. Look up their live in Tokyo Japan 84 video, watch the "prophecy" or "take hold of the flame." I think you'll be very impressed. On the live in Japan you'll see he doesn't sing like that any longer.
@MrTeslapower agreed. I picture Tate getting up that day and testing his voice as he's going about his regular routine, and realizing that all (I mean all) of the notes are there for the taking. Like a perfect storm (no scratchy throat or remnants of a cold or just being run down). I could see him calling the band with excitement and saying "Let's get there and get rolling before something disrupts my voice"...
Agreed asasassify, this and AIC were easily the 2 best unplugged concerts. Take the Killing Words for example (my personal fave) and how they completely morphed that into something bigger and more powerful / meaningful than the studio version. This whole concert is that way, same with AIC.
Most of the unplugged concerts weren't very good. The reason this one WAS, was because these guys were very talented musicians. Any band that can make their acoustic music sound as good as their normal stuff is pure talent.
Great job man! But there a few songs lacking. I gues two, one is "Anybody Listening?" in a very unique way they never played before. I can´t find this version on YoouTube anymore.
I've seen this band numerous times, and I have to say that THIS is their best live performance.
