Seeing this film without having read the book, I can honestly say that the movie stands well on it's own. I also felt that the entire cast was solid, and each held up their own end. I think you have enjoyed the ending more if you had not read the book. What I often find is that the moment a movie deviates from the book that it's based off of, readers become offended and automatically dislike any changes. Neither endings seem wrong - they just leave you with a different thematic statement.
The movie was not good in my opinion. The characters were not beliveable, the lines that weren't from the book were corny and cliche', and THEY CHANGED THE ENDING!! Why the hell did they have to screw up the movie adaption of such a fantastic book?
I got my mom the book for mothers day and she loved it!
I also took her to the movie. She didnt want to go at first because she wanted to finish the book but we went anyways..a little while later she read the book and finished it to find out a shocking and sadder ending..She was almost crying!!
I really want to read the book but she lost it or something!! :)
But still the movie was great..I dont agree on one thing though..Dakota would have been great but I think Abigal was great too..
Do you think anyones interested in your opinion? I mean Im not the kind of guy watching movies rather than reading books but its just not interesting what you think!
you know what just really irritated me? i got my sister's keeper, promised myself that i wouldn't watch it before i finished reading and i didn't listen to ANY SPOILERS. (but its kinda obvious kate dies instead because of the whole controversy of the thing) and when i finished, i was about to watch the movie like, the day right after i finished reading. and guess what? THEY TOOK IT OUT. and it was movie night @ my school last month and it was playing but my physics tutor came and i didn't go UGH
I think that they changed the ending because Abigail Breslin is a much bigger star than Sofia therefore she needs to live. But i could be completely wrong. Maybe the original ending is too sad? idk.
People in my theater could not stop sniffling and tearing up. All i heard from my friends was how they said it was such a sad movie also.
hmm even my friends said the whole room was tearing, crying and sniffling. and that's such a dumb reason to change the damn ending wtf maaan ! D:<
but i was DEAD SHOCKED when i found out anna was the one who was gonna die instead of kate while reading, it was 6am and i stayed up ALL night to finish it
But when you think about the book, Anna is still (for the most part) one of the main characters, yet she still gets killed off. I don't think that Abigail was right to portray Anna.
THANK YOU! I really dont think Abigail was a good choice for Anna. I wanted dakota fanning (because shes amazing) but i think she was too old. I read somewhere that Dakota and her sister were originally cast for the roles but Dakota refused to save her head. Which makes sense.
@JustPeachy932 Actually, Dakota Fanning was the first choice for the part as Kate, and her little sister as Anna, but Dakota fanning backed out when she found out she had to shave her head. Personally, I think the movie was great, all of the cast did an amazing job, especially Sofia Vasilieva! (i have yea to read the book though)
Yes yes he was only in the book for .2 seconds but i LOVED his part. I'm so happy they didn't leave him out in the movie I just dont like how they made it this scandalous love story. It was so much cuter as a first kiss relationship.
True story!! the ending of the book was so much more compelling. Jodi Picoult even said that her own son wouldn't talk to her for a week after reading the ending! That's power.
Thank you very much! at the end of the book, only Anna dies. Kate becomes a Ballet teacher. And at the end of the movie Kate dies and Anna lives. Both do not die, just clearing up in case there was confusion. :)
good question! Im the movie they show her with a wig, that is not her real hair. (interesting color choice, not one i would choose but it looked good on her.)
In the book I think i remember her talking about being bald at the hospital prom... I think she wore a wig then also. Book readers correct me if I'm wrong!
I too have read the book and have just seen the film today. My friend and i couldn't remember how it ended but knew it was different. Thanks for clearing it up.

Yeah, Dakota Fanning is my favorite actress, and I do think she would have done well in this movie.

What's the big deal w/ Taylor? In the book, he's in it for less than a chapter.

very informative for those of us that haven't read the book. Good video, but I don't think a lot of us could handle Anna's death and Kate's.
