  • oh my god, this kid is so young and still tackle it so good. im not even on his level as a 16year old..

  • You are a amazing young man nate be proud of who you are and what you do. The world can sometimes be cruel to people like us. But taking a stand and letting your beautiful voice be heard is the first step in a world wide change for the better. Although you may not see the long term results of making this video you are making a impact for those of us traped behind our own sentences.

  • Wow Nate, what a wonderful video. I'm a 65 year old stutterer and you've impressed me. Thanks.

  • well done nate. U made my day!

  • well done nate. U made my day!

  • The template Nate used is from Focus on Fluency written by Kristin Chmela M.A, CCC-SLP. Kristin is going to be the clinical director for Camp Shout Out which is a Camp for young people who stutter being held in Michigan for the first session in 2011. You can find out more information at our website or facebook. It's a fantastic program combining therapy and fun in a real summer camp setting. Campers are coming from all over the midwest and beyond.

  • @mochapj: by the way Nate, Kristin Chmela (who wrote the material you used) watched the video clip and said things like your presentation makes it worth all the hard work it takes to make a product. She also was certain that your presentation was going to help lots of kids who stutter.

  • This video is great!! I recenlty purchased the "Focus on Fluency" program that contains his presentation template. I have 3 students who are currently working on this template. We're going to make a practice video next week before they present!! Tell Nate he is amazing and thanks for helping my students!!!

  • I've stuttered my entire life, it gets better for most people, and although it's hard as a kid when you get older adults are more compassionate :)

Just remember people who don't understand aren't worth your time. The world is a bigger place than you think and there's more people out there that'll look after your back than not :)

  • awesome presentation

  • This was sweet. I never understood stuttering and I thought it was a joke, but this was an eye-opener.

  • What a great presentation Nate! You are a very well spoken kid who will go places!

  • The jump in views is because someone posted this on reddit.com. Great presentation!

  • i dont stutter and you still gave a better presentation than i could give, nice job

  • Speech impediments have never seemed to be related to any other deficiency in my experience, some of the most intelligent people and interesting have actually had stutters or any other speech impediments oddly enough, just look at gwtasky on youtube and his lisp:)

  • The people that downvoted this video need to die in a fire.

    Nice bud, keep it up!

  • Nate = Amesome

  • Wow Nate! you should be really proud of yourself =)

  • That's awesome, Nate! You're so brave and articulate! I want to thank you for your presentation.. I wish I was brave enough around your age to do the same (I made my own when I was 20..). It does make a difference..

    You're making a difference. :)

  • Wonderful!!!

  • *sniffles*

  • Genuine Question: for stutterers, do you stutter in your thoughts?

  • @exigentrevolution No, we don't.

  • @exigentrevolution I asked Nate and he said that he doesn't -- he also doesn't stutter when he reads silently, but he does stutter when reading aloud.

  • @exigentrevolution Of course not, we are just stutterers not mentally retarded

  • @exigentrevolution Nope, I speak just the way I want to in my thoughts. Which makes it that much more frustrating.

  • @exigentrevolution No. Stuttering is all about what is coming out of your mouth. (I have a mild stuttering problem :))

  • @exigentrevolution Stuttering is a purely physical speech disorder that has absolutely nothing to do with a person's capacity to think and feel. In fact, this is part of why stuttering can be so frustrating: for a stutterer--a cruel word to make one pronounce, by the way--the verbal process simply cannot fulfill its duty at the same speed as the mental process.

  • @exigentrevolution People often take for granted the fact that the verbal and mental processes usually work simultaneously; they then assume that stutterers must think slower or fragmentarily because of their speech. This is a wholly inaccurate perception of stutterers who are able to think just as quickly, clearly, and critically as anyone else.

  • @exigentrevolution

no, we don't. in fact, that's what can make you really mad when you're afflicted: you know exactly what you want to say but you can't.

  • @exigentrevolution I sometimes stutter in my dreams (but far less frequently than in real life), but never in my thoughts

  • @exigentrevolution I stutter due to a mild form of Aphasia but I don't stutter in my thoughts. Whenever I open my mouth to speak I can't imagine it coming out wrong until it does, just like an unexpected dry throat... just one that never goes away.

  • @exigentrevolution Speaking as an adult stutterer - no, we don't. Our thoughts move forward just fine, which is what makes the halting speech so darn frustrating. :)

  • Great video little buddy :)

  • Great video little buddy :)

  • You are awesome, dude :)

  • This is wonderful! :-)

  • The King's Youtube Speech!

  • As an occasional stutterer (stress, nervousness, exhaustion), I really appreciate this vid. Great job.

  • He is just awesome.

  • I started tearing up in the first 10 seconds. Great job Nate! I have a stutter, but not very noticeable anymore (I am 40). I had it all my growing up years and it affected me more than I admit. I don't think you mentioned in your super excellent presentation, is the importance of breathing and concentrating on the exhaling of your breath when you speak. Also, staying calm, as being excited usually leads to stuttering. Great job and I think you will be just fine.

  • Good job

  • Nate looks like an articulate and wonderful young man. Keep up the exemplary work!!

  • Good job kid

  • Fantastic Job Nate! I am completely impressed with your presentation and courage! Thank you for making a difference in people's perception and understanding about stuttering!

  • Keep up the good work! I'm 24 years old and still sutter from time to time and it's never held me back from doing anything.

  • wow this video is awesome.

  • That was great.

  • You're an absolute champion Nate. Awesome work buddy!

  • Nice!

  • Nate, I don't have any questions for you but I wanted to tell you that your confidence and speaking abilities are astounding! I graduated college with a minor in communications, and your speaking abilities are above and beyond most of the students I graduated with.

Great job, great presentation, and a great message. You are an awesome kid.

  • Wonderful presentation, Nate, you are a brave young man. As a lifelong stutterer and stuttering blogger, I applaud the courage you have that some never find. Keep giving us a voice!

  • Awesome.

I'm using this video in my speech in college tomorrow about stuttering.

As a stutterer, I applaud your great confidence and timing in your speech. Wonderful presentation, Nate.

  • I personally think that we as stutter's may not be good speakers, but we are good listeners. Since we stutter we tend to, or atleast I do, speak less and pay attention and listen more. Thats one of the many perks that we have, the listening perk.

Oh, and keep up with the good job you are a lot better at speaking than when I was your age.

  • As a stutterer for 30+ years I feel compelled to say, Nate, you are my hero.

Good luck with the new school. You're going to do great.

  • I'm so impressed Nate! My son is 7 years now & he's been stuttering a lot lately. Currently he's seeing a speech therapist but he might need quite some time to get over it. You gave me hope Nate, thank you so much!

  • This little kid brought a tear to my eye. Stay strong little guy, stay strong

  • Way to go nate! Awesome job!

  • good job nate

  • I also have a stutter and I am 21 years old and couldn't have given a better speech:) terrific job Nate:) I think you are going to change lives, you are one brave kid.

  • @Bethflower123 Thank you! Nate appreciates the comment so much!

  • FANTASTIC JOB NATE!!! You warm my heart <3

  • @jskellington0924 Awww, thanks!

  • I am sending this out to our slps and our staff in my school district! Wonderful job, Nate!! Maybe YOU can help children who stutter when you are an adult!!

  • @cindyslp Nate is hoping to help kids right now :) Thank for the compliment! Right now, his dream is to join the Air Force.
