  • I love you Mr. Steve Vai. and thank you for not giving up on music and life. peace brother

  • Does this guy ever age or show signs of slowing down ? Rock-n-Roll is the fountain of youth ! The birth of Rap Music was the devil which destroyed the entire Music Industry . This is not an opinion....it's a fact !! Sorry to all of my Brothers of another color.....but you know how I feel about this as music used to be my passion in life , and now I can't even turn on a radio without wanting to puke . So sad !

  • @JohnnieRhodes Radio? What the hell is that? Pandora or Satellite my friend and all your passion will return. Radio is dead.

  • Amazing, Steve is getting better and better.

  • ibanez Custom Shop manufactured only 2 of that JEM, one for the winner and one for Steve.

  • That guitar is the winner of a design contest. Random people submitted their dream jem and the winning design was made by ibanez. Steve did a brief tour with it then gave it to the winner.

  • What guitar. Is that.

  • @xarthurz Ibanez jem

  • @DennChooch a jem 7vwh? doesn't look like one

  • @xarthurz just because it isn't white and doesn't have gold hardware, doesn't mean it isn't one. vai has jems in all kinds of colours and such. chances are this one hasn't been released to the public. kind of custom shop.

  • @DennChooch ah, so it's a custom jem 7vwh

  • Hey, Vai swings into Hendrix's instrumental from 'War Heroes' called' Midnigh't. It's a futuristic technical and emotional wonder. Jimi doing it that is. Vai is a very very good player.

  • @gmakepiece that War Heroes LP has always been one of my faves, some real gems on there!

  • @RedroomStudios Ah, you are clearly a person of insight. It's a fun and curious album.

  • Hell if i had Doug Wimbish and Will Calhoun to play with on some Hendrix i would be jammin' with them not all over them, we know you can play like a motherfucker Steve but for fucks sake jam like one will you!!!!!.

  • Guys, guys ...please stop... this is blues trust me...is just that your blues playing is pedestrian ...

  • .... possibly the best 'guitar mouth' in the industry.

  • .... possibly the best 'guitar mouth' in the industry.

  • YOU GUYS DO KNOW THAT HE IS USING THAT THE WINNER'S IBANEZ GUITAR DESIGN. YOU KNOW FROM THAT CONTEST.

  • I fight against being a blues purist as all purists are ass holes. I only really listen to the blues for close to 30 years, but damn, this mutha can play. I got into having an open mind listening to frank zappa which leads to steve vai which leads to listening and hearing and finally to realizing there's mure to music than purism.

  • I still think Jimmy Page would kick his ass

  • @DanielGrozier

    SHUT UP ! SHIT MAN!!!

  • Awesome Guitar playing! He always makes me grin from ear to ear when he plays! His joy when he plays just jumps off of him and hits you in the face! His sustain is sweeeeeeet =D

  • Now I have the blues...

  • Wow, His Guitar Kung Fu is very Strong!!!!!

  • what bloody guitar is he using? as in, which model JEM is this?

  • @jasonlefort its sick aye?i reckon the lads at the shop custom whatever they want and offer it to him.i just love the shade of blue on it with the orange.very pretty guitar.(not to mention the mongrel weilding it)

  • where is the blues?

  • @shameplane up your ass TFF,its a Hendrix cover learn your history ,but i guess your name is shame and you are on the shame plane.fuck off

  • This guy had nothing to do there.

  • Nana Mouskouri avec une guitare ! non sans dec' il commence à vieillir pour ce genre de connerie...

  • @eazerty lol

  • turn the volume down and watch this 50 year old posers face... fukkin retard poser

  • @shane69999 learn to play fucktard...

  • @bmr21021975 fucktard or like cromatic says,TFF

  • @shane69999 yeah you dam right, steve at 50 is a poser , may be you at 50 could be a mummy

  • @shane69999 poser?what are you,a failed guitar player?you most definetly are, considering youre calling "poser" one of the best guitarrists out there.you're a troll/faggot/failure

  • @cromaticas T/F/F haha nice,I like that...

  • スティーヴン・ヴァイカッコイい!

    タッピング神

  • That fan in the hair gimmick has always irked me

  • steve is actually really great player when hes not playing all that new age synth sustainer whammy bar bullshit.

  • Wrong place, wrong artist, wrong genre...sorry Steve, you are an awesome guitar player, but in the future...stay away from Blues Festivals hahahhahahahaha......not your scene...:-)

  • Why this fusion shit on blues festival?

  • not his greatest moment

  • What show would be complete without some yutz screaming "Yeah!" at the top of his lungs?

  • I see Mr Via is getting the Long haired Bald Spot in The back w The wicked Part

  • steve vai is the best ever!!

  • best facial expression :)

  • BIG NOOO

  • vai is getting bald

  • 2:55 Hey you! The fan is off!!

  • absolutely amazing, a true musical craftsman

  • In my opinion he fucked up the song after the feedback part.

  • I FUCKIN' LOVE THIS GUY :)

  • Wanker

  • @supafly1954 in steves own words "yeah... so they say"

  • master

  • I just love this God. :)

  • omg he's yet detuned too?

  • the guitar salesman´s ever recurring nightmare, do that in a guitar store and you get "Can I help you at all" in about a nanosecond. the security guys face at 2:06 shows how exhilarated and touched he ways by steve´s incendiary performance!Eyebrows n Spoo!!

  • @azharkamal hahaha nice one. But I bet the security guy is thinking about getting more roids and kicking someone´s ass, like MOST security guys.

  • Vai is great, but what the hell dos THIS have to do with "Blues"??...

  • this guy definately knows how to put on a show

  • uUUAUAU genius

  • Clapton blows him away with one note..

  • @dumbletone You can't compare him with clapton...

I like them both, they're amazing, its just so different

  • @Sh0ck36 That's true.. nothing to compare, for sure lol

  • @dumbletone And the award for dumbest comment on youtube goes to....

  • @bizzle1783 lol... Yes man ! That's right ! Flashy things and music aren't the same.. ;-))

  • This is a cover of "Midnight" - Jimi Hendrix, War Heroes album

  • This must be the most be down to earth unshredded and relaxed scene show, that Vai have ever performed. – I can see you blues-scale people thinks, that he does something else ;-)

  • Me want axe :)

  • New Ibanez?

  • Comment removed

  • @chueychu Yeah. There was a fan design competition not to long ago. There are only two of those guitars in existence. That's one and the other is owned by the designer.

  • This Blues Festival 2011 baby!!))

  • I should probably say something regarding the "blues or not blues" discussion here. The Santa Cruz Blues Festival uses the word "blues" in a pretty loose way to encompass a lot of music on the fringe of blues but not for the blues purist. Additionally, Vai appeared on the day described as "Experience Hendrix". The other day of the festival was more traditionally bluesy, I believe.

  • @Bgood11 he just misinterpreted the brief, and brought a blue guitar instead ;)

  • err... nice timeless blues solo :/

  • wow, awesome soloo by steve as usual, doesn't stop amazing me, but he's not a blues player imo...

  • Comment removed

  • This dude can't play blues for shizz....

  • My GOD, what a cheeseball player Vai is.... damn.

  • Steve Vai o rei DAS PALHAÇADAS VAI TOCAR CUIKA NA PORTELA MISÉRAVEL PRA FAZER O PESSOAL RIR INDIOTA .......

  • @williansoul100 Vc eh o idiota willian.

  • is that the jem that won?!! thats amazing such a beautiful guitar

  • That's one hell of a hair parting!!!!!!!!!!

  • @thephantom955 yeah i think moses pated it lol

  • @fippysteed I fight the same thing. I'm not a Blues purist. Interestingly, the 'old' guys from Chicago and the South, who are the creators, are more open than the modern purist. Now, I LOVE Steve Vai, he does some amazing music. I mean I really love HIS music... But, having said that, he, on this recording, Well, I don't hear any Blues, there is no core energy that even modern rocked out Blues has. Sorry to say, on this vid, Steve Vai is not showing Blues of any substance.

  • thats blues festival not hes own concert..hes forget it ::D

  • He pulled some Satriani style a bit.

  • who cares if he's playing too many notes on a blues festival...he is Steve Vai. he's not a bluesman...he is Steve Vai. why did they invited him in the first place if they'll restrict him...the world knows who Steve Vai is.

  • 5.44, love the face, Mr Vai you are awsome :)

  • I forgive Steve for his Roth and Whitesnake days.I guess he had to pay the bills.

  • Way to be Steve!! If I was a young man (or woman) at this show and didn't know anything about you, this could have been life changing for them. You're one of the closest guys to a modern Hendrix. Way to make that guitar sing and scream. And no, I don't want to see you play a strat. Your Jem guitars are truly extensions of your mind and body. You can play the Blues fest one day and the Metal fest the next!

  • I see there an AxeFx ultra in his rack!

  • Stevie get a strat to play hendrix...this guitar sound like crap!!!

  • @mistervicenteblues Yeah, you're very right mistervicenteblues, I got headache listening his boring taping and other "poser's" techique...hehe. I wish that Terry Kath from Chicago is alive, takes strat, and starts to explaining to Vai what is the guitar, as firstly....hehe. Cheers

  • this aint blues this is "show time" well but the Hendrix war heroes was fine!!!

  • De quem e esse cabeçao ai na frente de bone ? kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk'

  • Stevie Vai is very talented but his music will never measure up against JOE SATRIANI'S.

  • @ptij0404

    They're pretty much best buds.

  • sensational, a lifetime of music depth

  • midnight fits him well

  • Oh yeah and 4 the record....

In my very humble opinion Steve Vai is the onlyone alive qualified enough to play Jimi's songs....

He's the only-one who;s got the MOJO to tap into Jim''s spirit properly......

    Tell me if i'm wrong!!!!

    JB68

  • @JimiBax68 vernon reid deserves as much credit as Vai surely?

  • @fishboybyebye

Yes sir i have to give credit where credit is due indeed;Vernon Read is not to be forgotten in this equation.

  • This is a mindblowing version of Jimi's MIDNIGHT!!!!

So very very sweet,THANX for uploading this!!!!!

    JB68

  • if you are older then 27 you must be emberessed

  • the security guard is a virtuoso violinist whose like ''yeh,i can do that on me fiddle steve, and its missing a plunker''.......its no big deal.

  • @MrCeltic76 ....lol....cool dude...

  • Before they employ security guards for a concert, they ask them if they like the artist. If the guy had said "ye I love Steve Vai" he wouldn't have gotten the job. Still he looks like a Miley Cyrus fan.

  • I do agree, that loser should at least acknowledge Vai. He seems to be one of those try-hard pansies, if I was in that show I would've moved that guy out of the way myself. The lack of respect is unforgivable.

  • the aura from his guitar is actually making his hair fly

  • Wow look at that jem. incredible.

  • Man, if I was the security guy, I would take those earknobs off, turn to listen Stevie and enjoy the shit out of the gig

  • beautiful guitar

  • is that the ddesign your own jem contest winner? looks like it to me

  • @silvano751 Yes it is ;)

  • Absolute the best player.

When Steve had his Guitar in his hands I can listening the hole day.

What a man you are Steve, come from space?

  • Hendrix's playing wad EXAGERRATED? LMAO!!!! That has to be one of the stupidest fucking statements ive ever heard. Shows complete and utter ignorance of what he did for the guitarand for music. What a douchebag! Hahahaha

  • That's the guitar tha won the Design Contest with Ibanez.

  • place your hand over his body so only his face is showing hahahahahahaha!

  • @xvengeancesynx so what now, you are the wonder kid?

  • The way Steve's mouth opens and shuts when playing those Great Guitar licks. Brings to my mind memories of a Dentist i went to for teeth exstraction years ago.

  • Steve 's paying TRIBUTE here to jimi Hendrix by playing one of Jimi's instrumentals.

  • Nice.

  • I want that guitar!! Damn

  • Was before he cut his hair.

  • Steve, you're playing too many notes it's a blues festival. :P

  • Tax Free!!!!

  • All you have to have is ears that can hear, a brain that can tell you what sounds clean and technical, and you can judge.

  • @KnottPatriot My favorites are Jason Becker, Marty Friedman, Paul Gilbert, Malmsteen and Allan Holdsworth, but I and any guitar player can see that Hendrix was hugely inventive electric guitar player, amazing blues player and an incredible composer and a wise melodic improvisator.

  • Hendrix was overrated. Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Malsteem, Hammett, are all better than Hendrix ever was.

  • @KnottPatriot opinions are not facts when are musicians going to realise that?

  • @KnottPatriot hendrix was the pioneer of solo guitar man, you can't compare him to artists of today. Guitar has come a long way in the past 50 years. Don't compare, just enjoy for what they are.

  • @KnottPatriot insult...

  • @P00TANARA Whatever........Hendrix's sound was exaggerated because no one else was doing it. There was no one else to compare it too. Later on Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, and Sabbath took the spotlight from him after his death. There are 100s of guitars players alive today that can run circles around him. Bill Peck, Michael Angelo Batio, Steve Vai, Eddie Van Halen, Yngvie Mamlsteem, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and countless other blues and rock guitarists around the world.

  • Comment removed

  • @P00TANARA Just because someone is the 1st doesn't mean he's better, Id take a pass on flying in a plane with the Wright brothers, cloth diapers are inferior to today's. Get over it. Hendrix was good, but not as good as today's players. News flash ts 2011 not 1967.

  • @KnottPatriot i somewhat agree with you. Many guitarists of today are better than hendrix, but he still has to be paid respect because he was a great musician. what really pisses me off is when nobody recognizes Les Paul. he wasn't by any means the greatest guitarist, but he invented the first solid body electric guitar, the LES PAUL! He has truly innovated guitar more than anybody...

  • @KnottPatriot i agree, he is no better, BUT he is the first and you dont judge the first how did it. for example (as you said, vanhalen was the first who tapped...there are better ones....malmsteen waw the first fast-shred-neoclassical, whatever...there are better ones...etc (gege???)

  • @P00TANARA

he was far from the first who tapped.

but he made it famous to the public

  • @pabcq But we all know the major showman behind bringing tapping to publicity is Mr. Van Halen.

  • @ScottNicholasSimpson HA..you mean the guy who killed it by making it seem like a gimmick?

  • @pabcq who else tapped before vanhalen? keith richards?

  • @P00TANARA

many tapped before van halen but in a less "fancy" way. and i believe holdsworth did the fancy tapping before van halen.

  • @KnottPatriot

You failed to mention that Hendrix was an INNOVATOR.

So, Bach lived some 250 years ago. Name a modern day composer his equal or better?

    You're a stone cold imbecile.

    Be gone...fool!

  • @Easleytee You want a modern day composer like Bach? How about Eric Whitacre, Hans Zimmer, Johann De Meij, Alan Silvestri, Danny Elfman, Jay Flippin, Samuel Hazo, David Gillingham, just to name a few. You know Ford innovated the motor, but we don't drive model t's anymore. Get a clue.

  • @KnottPatriot Did you see him in 1967? Nobody were doing the things he created in those days, and many of the modern electric guitar techniques that usually plays all of the guys you mentioned, were played by him first. Maybe they know more scales and plays it faster, but Hendrix were more inventive, maybe Vai and Van Halen may come closer to him in his level of experimentation, and Malmsteen shows love for him everytime he copy Hendrix's onstage performance, like teeth playing, feedback, etc.

  • IT WAS RAINING xD

  • Total Bell end!

    Hendrix is King.....!!

this bloke belongs in Spinal Tap.

  • @SOAPSCONTINETASEASE hahahahah! Im glad im not the only one who thinks playing shred at a blues festival is retarded.

  • realy cool guitar

  • Steve looks exactly like he did 25 years ago.

  • .....that Steve Vai. Throwing a pick at a stage hand to get his monitor suited well :-) at 2:53

  • I literally quit playing guitar because Vai is ultimate and since he's one of my biggest idols, I would be getting nowhere. Lol, I might pick up guitar for expressing myself.. but I would never do it to show off now that Steve Vai has made his mark in time! I love him so much for being ultimate!!!

  • @salasvalor01 Dude do you know how many guitarists he has inspired to play that can now shred him under the table? Steve's fantastic but you never know what you'll accomplish if you don't try man.

  • @elixergtarist Shredding isn't the whole of a guitarist. In my opinion, No one beats Vai because anyone who is heavily inspired from him doesn't have much room to take their ideas because Vai's explored the instrument through and through. Given all of his innovation and level of sophistication, it's an ultimate level that if even possibly surpassed, it wouldn't be by that much and Vai came before those people. Basically saying, he is the end-all on guitar as far as human goes.

  • @salasvalor01 No shredding isn't the whole of a guitarist. I don't agree that no one has room to take their ideas. Everybody has their own interpretation of music, period. There's always going to be someone to take it to the next level. I don't agree you should have stopped playing either. You don't know how good you might have gotten. As far as the end all of human, there are people like Di Meola who was before Vai that by Vai's own admission, can do things he could never do.

  • @elixergtarist Hmm, I agree to disagree. But, I found it funny when I read the "Di" part of your message, because I was expecting you to reference Leonardo Da Vinci. The relevance of this would have been he's my number one idol and when I view individuals like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach as the ultimate for musical composition, Vai, Vivaldi/Paganini, and so on as the ultimate for specialization of an instrument, I view Da Vinci as the ultimate for human as a whole. YT message limit is too short.. :(

  • @elixergtarist But, in summary, my mind has always fascinated with hierarchies for some reason. I don't know why, but for everything there's a reason and I hope to come to a conclusion for that. Anyway, to go back to my first post, I was basically saying I won't play guitar to show off after witnessing Vai, because of the ultimate factor I've come to perceive. However, I will still play guitar to express myself and I will still continue to improve my skills. It's just I won't gloat with it.

  • @salasvalor01 I agree, sometimes you do come across something or someone that has some kind of major impact on you. Vai is indeed one of those people. When I first saw him in the movie Crossroads back in 86 when I was a kid, I was like "Eddie Van Who!?". He definitely impacted me as well.
