@criticatorxxx There may be ice there in the winter (it wont be perennial ice) but in the summer when the ice typically recedes it may be gone. we'll see. people like to talk about how the ice is making a comeback, but it's not true because while it may cover a wide distance, it's much thinner now.

If enough ice melts off of Greenland in a short amount of time that could destablize the Gulf Stream current ushering in hundreds of years of freezing temps for Europe....

The Gulf stream was disrupted once by a large lake that formed out of glacial water covering most of Canada. It broke free all at once, washing out the Hudsons bay. That did not even effect the gulf stream for that long a time period so gradual melting probably will not unless it goes all at once. If a lake starts forming in Greenland the British may need to start drinking glacier water beer. " It's low in salt not because the water is cold. " I'm not sure how you would market that.

You are right, the disruption of he Gulf Stream was due to a freshwater discharge from a lake that was adjacent to the Hudson Bay. The effect did last for almost 1000 years though. I'd consider it pretty long.... Now if enough Greenland ice and an increase in Siberian river discharge occur, then yes the Gulf Stream may become disrupted or even stop....

Not an ice age lasted 1450-1850 only in Europe 400yrs

temperature reconstructs puts global cooling at -0.2deg. The ocean Current stoppage could account for all of that.

Parts of Europe received a full deg of cooling. 1645-1715 solar Maunder minimum could not account for more than -0.2 deg of global forcing if any.

Dalton minimum 1795-1825

would have had less negative forgings if any.

Basically one deg of cooling for Europe today would put Europe back to temperatures a hundred years ago.

The Gulf Stream shutdown all of the sudden around 12000 BP, when in a matter of decades the temps in Greenland dropped very low very fast. In a matter of decades. It was 15° C colder during the Younger Dryas in Greenland than today. In England, the average annual temperature was -5° C,

According to NASA, the Maunder minimum between 1680-1780, the temos in Europe, North America, and Northern Asia were 0.7C colder than today.

The little European ice age period was -.2 deg cooler Globally for the time period it was in and 1 deg cooler regionally. You compare it to today. We have had anthropogenic global warming for the last 150 years. Present temperature is irrelevant data for determining what the forcing influence of gulf stream or solar minimum was then.

The point is that during that 400 year stretch of gulf stream cooling there was also a maximum solar period without Quantifiable effects.

If nothing else this indicates that the solar influence Has considerably less forcing than the gulf stream stoppage had based on the vast difference between the regional cooling and the Global average. That supports the last thirty years of high sensitivity solar data collection from satellites that indicates the solar minimum /maximum is only about a .2 deg forcing in it's most extreme case.

Study of vast numbers of stars indicates that they go through similar cycles and that they only spend about 17% of their time in solar minimum. Predictions based on that data indicate we should not see an extended solar minimum for another century.
