In June 2011, we drove nearly the whole length of Highway 1 and there was only one unpaved section that was not part of a construction zone. It's a pretty smooth gravel section ~10-15km in length around the Berufjörður in the eastern part of the country. Some of the more remote roads were simply awful, however.

This is in Skriðdalur, it's close to Egilsstaðir.

Thankfully, most of Route 1 is now completely paved. Where was this taken at?
