After taking few rounds through the vest, your internal organs are mashed and you will eventually die a VERY PAINFUL death.
Armor makes you slow and limits your movement, its more bad ass to go to war wearing only plain white T's and armed with a sub machine gun, pistol and a knife.
@iamzero79 the day will come when someone invents a anti gravity generator zone then youll be able to wear ton weight armor that can stop pretty much anything even to survive missile/Agm missiles and have two vulcan mini guns and rocket pods. Send him in the center of congress...bye bye Us goverment
Well which reason do you want for pinnacle's black listing by the Army? The lying, or the attempt to work around rather than through the Army's testing and procurement process?
Let's be honest here, it probably works fine for the operators wearing it, as they're professional enough to know when to take it off. For your average Infantryman it's a tragedy waiting to happen. It just so happens the stuff falls apart if you spill POL liquids on it and/or wear it in an Iraqi summer.
I want to know what rounds they were shooting before I believe anything a video like this shows, are they using practice rounds? armor piercing rounds? ect?
Ugh, really? All body armor stops penetrations. The trick is spreading out the force of impact, real tests use clay models so they can measure the amount of impact. This impact is enough to induce internal bleeding and even break ribs.
Wow, this is like my story! I put a titanium nugget up my ass, then one day, my gun went off, just like that, and the bullet bounced off my nugget in my ass. I was saved by titanium too
Haha! Someone said something about making a helmet with this... It might stop penetration, but would that really even be better? I'd rather be dead than braindead. And with larger rounds, like a 7.62 NATO and larger, will it stop penetration? Does anyone have a video of that?
My dad was a police officer 2 to 3 years ago and he was shot at a medium range in the chest. His vest or body armor deflected the actual bullet but he had a bruise the size of a baseball for months. It saves your life but it doesn't save you from injury. The doctor was also skeptical because if it had been any lower it could have damaged his organs from the impact. Sometime if a bullet is "through and through" it causes less damage but it would be a gamble.
@NicolaAlexandrovna He his very lucky to live to live through that, many police officers don't live through a shooting. But the thing with soft bullet resist vests is that the kinetic energy has to go somewhere...and that is into the person with the vest. But it certainly beats getting shot and having a very serious wound, even fatal.
Yeah, I've never been shot with body armor. But I'm pretty sure you feel one jolt of a bullet and you'll shit your pants while laughing hysterically or crying hard about how you just got shot and probably nearly died.
Well considering most street thugs aren't walking around with military ammunition I think it will just work fine and um I'll take broken bones and internal bleeding over holes in me any day of the week
Right!! No penetrations but the ballistic energy would shatter every bone in your torso and reduce your internal organs to jelly! Why don't we see them doing this test on a 'dummy' made of ballistic gelatin formed around a ribcage? Because that would show you what would really happen and they wouldn't SELL as much armor! This test is a misleading load of BS!
@cy2087 I think a 7.62x25mm would just eat through that armor easy as butter...The 7.62x25 mm has killed a couple of cops with the bullet only fmj no steel-core needed.. That is why my main carry weapon is a tokarva just because you never know when someone might have body-armor...I just want to know why the didn't try the 5.7 FN on the armor.
@cy2087 Maybe you should read up on the philosophy of modern ballistic armor. It appears you don't understand how stopping a bullet from potentially penetrating your internal organs or major arteries( don't even get me started on exit wounds) is preferable to letting the bullet blow through you.
Ok so what they don't tell you about this is the impact of the round may not penetrate which is a plus of course. But that also disperses the energy into the vest which disperses into you with enough force to break and fracture bones. It's kinda hard to do anything with like a buncha cracked broken ribs and a fractured sternum and possible internal damage at points like the kidneys and liver.
Not unless they're using larger caliber like .50 cal (wich the vest is not rated for). Or maybe by "internal" you mean subdermal, ie. bruising. Unless the padding layer is defect and/or you are wearing the vest naked, this is not an issue.
Several soldiers that worn D.S in Iraq were hit many times with AK47, and weren't even aware that bullets hit them. no internal injuries were observed.
After getting hit once i would probably fall down and vomit then get hit repeatedly in the exposed areas...due to the immense trauma of stopping a high velocity round..u can see the impressions of the slugs on the t shirt..
great, now make a face mask using the same material, and something for your legs, some for your arms, and your crotch ,then give him a kevlar helmet, you got a 20th century knight!!
The dragon skin vest was never fully level 4 NIJ approved, even though the manufacturers claimed it was. The armor failed multiple times after exposure to high heat (comprable to middle eastern summers) causing the adhesive holding all the discs in place gave out and the discs clumped into the lower portion of the armor. It was also heavy as hell. Nobody wants to wear a vest that weighs more than existing systems BEFORE adding ammo and water.
Its not only bullet penetration they should worry about but the trauma after the shot.

@bo7ameed Blunt trauma from an intermediate rifle is a joke. The bullet only has as much energy that is felt from the recoil. It's nothing worse than a tennis ball hitting your stomach.
I learned that this vest is not worn by the Army because of 2 things A: Its WAY to expensive to outfit +1,000,000 soldiers and B: In the extreme heat (like Iraq or Afghanistan) the disks all fall to the bottom and come undone thus making the vest useless.
@mrgreen11231990 He probably wants to play airsoft or plans to rob a bank. I would like a set of this stuff just because it's an awesome vest and I'm 15
This is without a doubt incredible stuff and will save lives. I know VERY little bout the tech behind this stuff. With that said, I know bullets are stopped by a material that's foam like and such. Does that same material help with lets say getting hit with a bat or stabbed by a knife? I sure it'll help but it won't cancel the damage completely would it?
@bigpapasrobot It will hurt, almost like a paintball hurts, but you won't get the internal injury caused by a bullet, nor the blood loss caused by a wound.
@bigpapasrobot it would, because the fabric is extremely hard to cut, it's probably kevlar, which is 6 times harder to cut then steel. And the interlocking discs are what stops the force. So it would protect quite well.
@cenotosa1 kevlar is not harder to cut than steel the shear strength of a given steel is between 70-80 GPa, the shear strength of kevlar is 19 GPa. What you're thinking of is the tensile strength (2.5-3.2 GPa) being about 6 times that of low carbon 1018 steel (440-565 MPa), but that's a shitty comparison for armor since armor steel is based on 4340 which has a tensile of 1.2-1.9 GPa.
The point of a vest is to reduce the instances of ricochet and cross fire injury and or death. Getting hit with an ak47 anywhere in your body is an extremely painful and devastating injury.
If your in a clean fight and one of your opponents outwits or overpowers you directly, it wont help but it should in theory bring down the casualty rates if deployed amongst a fighting force
Does anyone know what the actual plate carrier itself is called? (I'm talking about the Khaki colored Cordura piece with MOLLE on it) I know that the armor system inside is called Dragon Skin but what is the carrier itself? I went to Pinnacle Armors website and nothing and I've just started my massive search through 4 years of comments on this video -____-
@SpecialOpsM4 the armor holder has the ceramic sewn into it thats what makes it so tuff. with ceramic plates put into a carrier normaly the pouch is to large so it can also hold steel plates. this however will make ceramic plates weak and break into dust and spread out reducing its stopping potential but this armor system has the ceramic plates tightly sewn in all the way to the edge so what your looking at is what they sell its kinda strange but the only way to have high grade ceramic armor.
@SpecialOpsM4 if you go to Pinnacle's website and look at the bottom of the Dragon Skin page it tells you what carrier it's typically in, I believe it's called the Eagle MAR CIRAS.
@akzo74 Well that's the thing. I went to Pinnacles website and there wasn't any info about it on there. And that site isn't the easiest to find info on. And it didn't look like a EI Mar CIRAS to me but I'm over it haha. I think it was the SOV-2000 but I don't care anymore. Thanks though.
Because it had a lot of flaws that Pinnacle Armor (and in many cases, the media) chose to tactfully ignore, instead preferring to yell "FOUL" and "CONSPIRACY!"
@ComradeCody- in a way you are making a good point with the everyone being armed with the larger round, but really in a standard infantry fight they will probably carry 5.56mm rounds, not to say they can't cut anyone down below the waste or get a head shot so the vest should hold out. Today's military is very technologically advanced so they will get the intel they need and use weapons and equipment that are "mission specific" so if they need the 7.62, then thats what they will bring.
Comrade Cody: body armour used by knights weighed 30 pounds- because their weapons were short range, they could have their supply lines very close, so resupply was very easy- therefore all that the took into battle was weapons and armour. For modern soldiers in the middle east, they have to carry their supplies for a day- 30 pounds of armour, 3 pound helmet, 8 pound rifle, 300 rounds of ammo, 6 kg of water and all the other nick nacks- at the end of the day, carrying an extra 20 pounds every da
@ComradeCody That is because all of those calibers are rifle calibers which means bigger than assault rifle calibers. Armies use the 7.62x54R and the NATO equivalent 7.62x51Nato in their machine guns and DMR and "light" Sniper rifles. All these rounds would penetrate even Steel better.

@DarkWorld2450 it is not that heavy, in fact full body armor worn by knights are 80 pounds and is flexable i read that kights could do backflips, runs, jumps, and swim in water
It may protect your chest but it doesn't protect your head, legs, arms, balls, feet, hands. If i got shot in the balls, i would rather get shot in the heart and die.
pretty good body armor, now in these days people usally aim on your head! they should invent a helment with somekind, of tectonic plate sheet around the head! buy good metal from the soviet! and have like some kind of glass sheet resisten bullet proof, glass so you can see, of course it's gana be heavy but would save many live.
@BEASTMODEFUA11 thats what i always thought to if you were in a conflict a skilled sniper would automatically go for a kill shot naturally the head, i always thought that you could adapt a dirt bike helmet tyle design and put dragon skin inside the helmet lining and put bullet resistant glass on the eye parts and make te glass go to about where your ears are so you could see naturally
Tbh, Rapid fire and you would be dead... Not to talk about the Crapy rpgs they use in pakistan that fail to go off and get stuck in ur gear and turn into grenades
Now the real test, call Chuck Norris and ask if he is free and not swimming in land.

This is without a doubt incredible stuff and will save lives. I know VERY little bout the tech behind this stuff. With that said, I know bullets are stopped by a material that's foam like and such. Does that same material help with lets say getting hit with a bat or stabbed by a knife? I sure it'll help but it won't cancel the damage completely would it?
bigpapasrobot 8 months ago
@bigpapasrobot It will hurt, almost like a paintball hurts, but you won't get the internal injury caused by a bullet, nor the blood loss caused by a wound.
goge1807 8 months ago
@bigpapasrobot it would, because the fabric is extremely hard to cut, it's probably kevlar, which is 6 times harder to cut then steel. And the interlocking discs are what stops the force. So it would protect quite well.
cenotosa1 8 months ago
@cenotosa1 kevlar is not harder to cut than steel the shear strength of a given steel is between 70-80 GPa, the shear strength of kevlar is 19 GPa. What you're thinking of is the tensile strength (2.5-3.2 GPa) being about 6 times that of low carbon 1018 steel (440-565 MPa), but that's a shitty comparison for armor since armor steel is based on 4340 which has a tensile of 1.2-1.9 GPa.
akzo74 8 months ago
@akzo74 that should be shear modulus not shear strength.
akzo74 8 months ago
The point of a vest is to reduce the instances of ricochet and cross fire injury and or death. Getting hit with an ak47 anywhere in your body is an extremely painful and devastating injury.
If your in a clean fight and one of your opponents outwits or overpowers you directly, it wont help but it should in theory bring down the casualty rates if deployed amongst a fighting force

This armor is not worn by the army because Chuck Norris doesn't want people to have armor stronger than himself.

Does anyone know what the actual plate carrier itself is called? (I'm talking about the Khaki colored Cordura piece with MOLLE on it) I know that the armor system inside is called Dragon Skin but what is the carrier itself? I went to Pinnacle Armors website and nothing and I've just started my massive search through 4 years of comments on this video -____-
SpecialOpsM4 9 months ago
@SpecialOpsM4 sov-200 I believe
mrmllama 8 months ago
@SpecialOpsM4 the armor holder has the ceramic sewn into it thats what makes it so tuff. with ceramic plates put into a carrier normaly the pouch is to large so it can also hold steel plates. this however will make ceramic plates weak and break into dust and spread out reducing its stopping potential but this armor system has the ceramic plates tightly sewn in all the way to the edge so what your looking at is what they sell its kinda strange but the only way to have high grade ceramic armor.
TheFloydsta 8 months ago
@TheFloydsta I just wanted to know the name of the plate carrier the armor is inside of.
SpecialOpsM4 8 months ago
@SpecialOpsM4 if you go to Pinnacle's website and look at the bottom of the Dragon Skin page it tells you what carrier it's typically in, I believe it's called the Eagle MAR CIRAS.
akzo74 8 months ago
@akzo74 Well that's the thing. I went to Pinnacles website and there wasn't any info about it on there. And that site isn't the easiest to find info on. And it didn't look like a EI Mar CIRAS to me but I'm over it haha. I think it was the SOV-2000 but I don't care anymore. Thanks though.

WHy was this canceled???

@terradragon
Because it had a lot of flaws that Pinnacle Armor (and in many cases, the media) chose to tactfully ignore, instead preferring to yell "FOUL" and "CONSPIRACY!"
*sigh*

@ComradeCody- in a way you are making a good point with the everyone being armed with the larger round, but really in a standard infantry fight they will probably carry 5.56mm rounds, not to say they can't cut anyone down below the waste or get a head shot so the vest should hold out. Today's military is very technologically advanced so they will get the intel they need and use weapons and equipment that are "mission specific" so if they need the 7.62, then thats what they will bring.

4thmind 9 months ago
Comrade Cody: body armour used by knights weighed 30 pounds- because their weapons were short range, they could have their supply lines very close, so resupply was very easy- therefore all that the took into battle was weapons and armour. For modern soldiers in the middle east, they have to carry their supplies for a day- 30 pounds of armour, 3 pound helmet, 8 pound rifle, 300 rounds of ammo, 6 kg of water and all the other nick nacks- at the end of the day, carrying an extra 20 pounds every da
DarkWorld2450 9 months ago
i heard that old rifle rounds (.303. 30-06, 7.62x54r, 8mm muaser) can go though it because of the energy it has.
if that was true its users is not gonna last long against a local army armed with bolt action and semiautomatic rifles
ComradeCody 9 months ago
@ComradeCody That is because all of those calibers are rifle calibers which means bigger than assault rifle calibers. Armies use the 7.62x54R and the NATO equivalent 7.62x51Nato in their machine guns and DMR and "light" Sniper rifles. All these rounds would penetrate even Steel better.

@DarkWorld2450 it is not that heavy, in fact full body armor worn by knights are 80 pounds and is flexable i read that kights could do backflips, runs, jumps, and swim in water

pretty good body armor, now in these days people usally aim on your head! they should invent a helment with somekind, of tectonic plate sheet around the head! buy good metal from the soviet! and have like some kind of glass sheet resisten bullet proof, glass so you can see, of course it's gana be heavy but would save many live.
BEASTMODEFUA11 9 months ago
@BEASTMODEFUA11 thats what i always thought to if you were in a conflict a skilled sniper would automatically go for a kill shot naturally the head, i always thought that you could adapt a dirt bike helmet tyle design and put dragon skin inside the helmet lining and put bullet resistant glass on the eye parts and make te glass go to about where your ears are so you could see naturally
