  • Hi again. I attempted to fold my first base. I am having diffuclty with the squash fold and small fold after it at around the 6:02 section of the video. You said it is like the paper crane step. Does the type of paper make a difference.... i am using regular printer paper to practice and it seems too heavy to allow me to succeed with the small folding steps. Must I use origami paper? Thank you again!

  • @SusanFromOhio So sorry for the late reply! No, the type of paper shouldn't make a difference. The paper I used to demonstrate was also printer paper. You can use origami paper if you want but it's not necessary. If you're having a hard time working with the smaller folds using printer paper, I would suggest using a bigger sized printer paper. I hope it worked out! :)

  • Thank you for your reply. I haven't started one yet but hope to soon!

  • This looks beautiful. I have done a regular kusudama flower origami ball and have been looking for something else that can be used for a Christmas tree ornament. I am going to try this sea urchin type. Do you have to use origami paper or can copier paper be used? Did I understand you to say that each part of the individual module begins with the same size square? Thank you.

  • @SusanFromOhio That sounds like a great idea! :) You don't have to use origami paper. The paper I used to demonstrate was copier paper. Yes, that's correct. All the paper you're using should be the same size.

  • what a lovely voice!!! i love it

  • @asakurano25 Thank you :)

  • so many steps but i managed to do one :D

  • @myaccount2747 That's great! :) Yeah, it can be very time consuming.

  • if you are using origami paper that is one sided what side do you start folding with (colour up or down)? I cant figure this out someone please help!

  • @SqusihyHeartsYaoi Sorry for the late reply. At 1:19, when you have 2 flaps on each side, the colour you see on the outside would be the white (non-coloured) side. When you continue with the steps and eventually open it up so that you have an octagon (2:30), the triangle flaps facing you are coloured whereas the large area that the flaps fold onto is non-coloured. I hope that helps.

  • Suprisingly easy, yet very nice in the end.

    Great job!

  • Thank you so much! :)

  • @Rosemarie995 you're welcome!

Also,My kusudama turned into an oval after my sister threw it.

Maybe i didn't tie the know in the end tight enough...

    Any suggestions?

  • hmmm...yes, maybe the strings needed to be tied tighter. To make it spherical again, maybe try tugging on the units on the narrow part of the oval. I hope that helps.

  • @Rosemarie995 YaaaY! It's a ball again! Thanks alot!I'm deffinetly making this for my friends bday!I just hope that i pick the colours well...

  • wait! soo to of the peices together make 1 unit??..

  • Yes that's correct.

  • I think copy paper is a bit too thick for this project, sadly it's the only paper I have.

  • really? I used copy paper and it's just fine for me. :) I hope it worked out for you.

  • @Rosemarie995

The only trouble I had was with the tiny crane fold near the end of folding the bottom modules. I couldn't get it to fold down very nice at all.

  • Hi there! Sorry for the late reply. I'm not sure what could be going wrong. Maybe the paper you're using is too thick? Or maybe your folds need to be more precise? Sometimes it takes a bit of practice. I hope you managed to get it anyhow. :)

  • @RachelBrockamp yea i can see how it can get really thick, i expected the folds to not be as layered when i started watching...

  • Your videos are cool and well explained . peace

  • Thanks so much! :)

  • um wich is the easyest oragami you have on your video's not including the envelop !

  • Thanks so much :)

Hmmm...I'm not sure of any other designs for sea urchin kusudamas, but maybe you mean other kusudamas in general? There are lots of videos here on youtube for how to make different designs. If you want to check out my channel, I have a few other tutorials on how to make different kusudamas. Or if you type "kusudama tutorial" in the search bar, there are also lots of other beautiful designs and great tutorials on youtube. :) Have fun!

  • if you know naruto you seem like hinata

  • i don't know that, but hopefully it's a good thing :P

  • Thank you for your wonderful video. I made one complete piece by watching your tutorial. But my question is what kind of paper are you using? I have some origami paper about 6" with double sided colors. But this kusudama doesn't look good with double sided paper. i do have the construction paper which has same color on both sides. But that one is very rough. So Please kindly suggest me the best paper for this kusudama and where can I get it. BTW I like in U.S. Thanks once again.

  • THANK YOU, Rosemarie995! I have Tomoko Fuse's Kusudama book, and your videos are a great supplement to the book. I was struggling before, but it's very clear now, and I'm able to make a cute sea urchin! Thank you for your clear, concise instructions!

  • no problem :) that' good to hear. I'm glad it worked out.

  • I think that this is a very clear and understandable video to read. It is slightly intermediate but has a very clear and controlled voice to guide you through the whole way. It is slow, but steady, and allows us to create something so beautiful. Fantastic Job !! :)

  • Thank you so much! :) I really appreciate your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
