I'm really glad there are interpretations of songs out there. When I feel like listening to Marvin Gaye's version I am generally feeling hopeful, but sometimes I am feeling softer, not in the mood to dance, just in the mood to listen to a song with the same message quietly. I turn this on and think, *whew* for the people who make interpretations or covers of songs even though others might think they're crazy and worse off for doing so.

Most music is open to interpretation. I hold this song close to my heart as my mom is bipolar, last time I saw my dad was about 5 years ago after a nasty fist fight, and my little brother has been into hard drugs. I also used to have long hair and often consider the terrible things going on in the world. i do not hear the name Vietnam in here once, which grants this song great longevity and gives it to far more people. Love this song.

i alway took this song to be about death in the streets. fathers not being there for their kids. mothers dying from drugs. i know the lyrics talk about war but music is what you want it to be so to me this song is about taking care of each other and a community looking for the interest of its inhabitants. this version makes me feel sad about our world

I'm really glad there are interpretations of songs out there. When I feel like listening to Marvin Gaye's version I am generally feeling hopeful, but sometimes I am feeling softer, not in the mood to dance, just in the mood to listen to a song with the same message quietly. I turn this on and think, *whew* for the people who make interpretations or covers of songs even though others might think they're crazy and worse off for doing so.

ummm last time I checked Maynard was the lead singer of the band. I'd think that even if he didn't lay the vocal tracks of the song it would still be up to standard. If you think this track is good then you deserve a swift kick in your undescended testicles prick.
