No offence to any of you but the words "board" and "soundboard" really get on my nerves. It's a mixer. Do people use that word to try and sound smart or more professional because it doesn't work. Mixer or desk will do fine.
@MissingAmongPeople seems its only your nerves and one guy from California. Soundbooth, Mixer station, Control Center (same difference). Whatever you call it is your deal and if you are upset about it then you need to relax. Of over 3000 people who have watched this video - most everyone appreciates the free advice and dont have a problem with me calling it a soundboard....
@KJEboys There is no magic knob position. You need to adjust the gain from minimum (left) slowly up to while watching the PFL (pre fader level) to get it up near zero when at maximum input volume. If you go over zero you lose headroom on the channel and depending on the mixer you can get distortion and or damage the channel. If you have too low of a signal you may not have enough volume. Typically in recording you run lower gain levels than live.
but if you play tunes where different things going on on L and R and fx , synths , back vocls swiming/changing from one side to another etc.. you can missing 1/3 or 1/2 good part of the tune.. elctronic music and old 60's stereo tunes I think could be bad choice for just one left or right channel.
I dont remember now but I think radio mixingboard has special switch to play in true mono or if tune is not compatible with mono it changing the phase.
@maciekkk123 It really depends on the venue and system. Many systems don't have good stereo separation anyways, and depending on the venue you may end up just causing half of the audience to not hear some of the band.
In DJ situations yes, stereo can be a great effect. In live situations stereo causes phasing issues unless the system is very good. I do like to add vocal effect to one side if I am in stereo
Ok, heres what the problem is. The output on post fader is controlled by the main fader at the bottom of the channel. To get signal you must push the fader up- and at 0 its going to have the same output volume as what s going into the subgroups. If you switch off pre fader and have the slider down you will have no sound.
need to learn how thw matrix works n setup

You stated in most cases we would not use left/right from computer into separate inputs. What would be the advantage to do so?
Thanks for your help!

@bluetrpt I usually run mono from a computer because most people dont know its mono. stereo for recording and mono for live is what I do.
