  • You do know how to use a knife :-)

  • Thank you. This really helped, great tips; and nice to know what colors you used, and so glad it was not too fast in speed. Very nice work, great tutorial.

  • thats a little different that what i do im a dorthy dent instructor so i usually dont paint with knives and the style you have i just dont really like it but i guesd its just cause when i paint i make my colors blend but anyways good job but interesting

  • really fantastic

  • and cad orange is good for making grays with blues

  • I like his style. Good demo because he says what colors he is using, especially for beginners, and especially because it hard to tell in Youtube videos, a lot of videos they don't say enough about what they are doing. Nice limited but very useful and effective palette. I used to always use mostly earth tones, but I started painting again and have been struggling with color, and two colors that he mentioned, verid, and cad orang, make things easier for me. verid is good to make different greens

  • That was awesome!

  • Mr,Kenneth have you ever paint a night seen paint before?

  • excellent demo!

  • thank you very much and good luck with your art!

  • love this! when i took an art/painting class (as a requirement in college), i also stuck with knives. brushes stress me out (except with water-colors). haha

  • and no clean up!

  • thanks a lot and good luck with your art!

  • why do you paint with knives?

  • painting knives allow me to remain loose to create impression style paintings. i can work fast, so i don't concentrate on details so much. i do have some brush work in my paintings also.

  • Thats great you make it look so easy i could never do it in 6 hours like a pro ,once i mess up thats it ,scrape it off and let the earth take a couple a whirls,my hero was always the late Earl Daniels

  • mr. daniels certainly painted some great seascapes and i have read his books.

if you try painting loosely with the knife you can easily blend in your mistakes and paint it out. don't try to detail seascapes too much!

    thanks and good luck, ken

  • good job..make it look easy.

  • thanks, appreciate it.

  • thanks! it's a beautiful painting! i'm a manga artist, and i'm trying to learn how to paint with oil paints, i just did a painting the other day and it didn't turn out too bad, i have a long way to go tho :)

  • just keep studying, practicing and trying different techniques, you all ready have prior art skills, it's just a matter of learning the oil paint mechanics.

    good luck, ken

  • Great job and great explanation of details as well. Looking forward to more!

  • thanks a lot, good luck with your art!

  • Thanks very much for all that hard work - must have been quite a bit of effort, and I for one greatly appreciated it - trying to retain a lot of what you demonstrated so easily - I did wonder though, when you are using knives - how do you manage the quantity of paint required? Are you still using tubes and a pallette?

Thanks again - I was looking for someone who would demo the use of knives and this was perfect!

  • each color has a little bit of different texture to it, and as you spread it, you'll see if you need to thicken the stroke or not.

but as far as how much quantity, start with small piles from your tubes on your palette and use as much as you need. you'll get a feel for how much with some experience.

    thanks, ken

  • very talented!

  • thanks a lot, appreciate it!
