  • this is a nice video to commemorate someone like Hans Christian Andersen. It is nice to remember someone who has captured the hearts of children from all his wonderful stories. This is really nice. I really like it.

  • I loved this movie when I was young. I will have to find a copy for my baby nephew!

  • I freaking love this movie. :D

  • WHAT A VERY FUNNY ACTOR I LOVE HIS SIGING

  • I was reading Beastly, and every time Mr. Anderson comes up in the chat group, this plays in my head. xD

(Yes, I'm aware that Hans Christian Anderson was probably his namesake)

  • I've started playing "Mass Effect" and every time Captain Anderson is mentioned, this song plays in my head... and he's mentioned a LOT.

  • I just love him... He was the best actor..

  • I got surprised when I found out that an english man, made a movie about Hans Christian Andersen. It surprised me, because Denmark IS a small land. But then again, I thought of how talanted HCA was, and instead thought: He deserves no less than this.

"I'm Hans Christian Andersen" <- got that stuck on my brain o.e

  • @MentalistPatrick *or, not about him, but used his name of course..

  • I saw this as a kid in school. The thing that stuck with me was, "What's your name?" *singing* "I'm Hans Christian Andersen!" "Thank you. You're under arrest." Hee.

  • I have Always loved this musical. Danny Kay was an awesome performer, and this was one of my Favorite movies he did. It was Sooooo sad.

  • Uh....(backing up several paces)...nice to meet you...Hans...(ZING!!!)

  • Hans Christian Andersen is danish. :)..

  • 'I'm Hans Christian Andersen. I have many tales to tell. I'm Hans Christian Andersen. That's me!'

  • i am related to him.

  • does anyone have the lyrics to this song?????

  • Hans Christian had black hair, as much as i know.

And he was very slim, looking like a girl.

  • I was such a dumb kid. I used to watch this all the time and I really believed that he was Hans Christian Andersen. I love Danny K!

  • I like his brother Foot Muslim Orthedaugher

  • @JamesTKirkCobain ....ROFLMAO

  • Una de mis peliculas preferidas....me encanta Danny..lindos recuerdos de mi niñez

  • Anderson you are the best i read your stories in russian and i just want to say you are the best!

  • Thank you Hans Christian Andersen for your fairy tales. You're really great!

  • Tday's Anderson's birthday.

  • @WalterSickert96 It somehow makes me sad. :(

  • Happy 205th Birthday, Hans Christian Anderson!

  • You're under arrest! XD

  • the Great H.C. Andersen and Danny Kaye

  • As a result of his critical acclaim in the title role, Danny Kaye became the goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, traveling the world to entertain impoverished, sick children that UNICEF sought to heal.

  • one of the best movies ever made. amazing!

  • He is my biggest hero he is an inspiration and isn't afraid of anything or anyone he is an awsome guy and I wish he was still alive thanks H.C.A. your biggest fan :D <3

  • Godt nok var H.C. Andersen homo, men så gay var han sku heller ikke! xD

  • @Ralleh007 haahahahah! nej.. xD

  • i wish that was the real hans christian anderson

  • Fantastic , thanx

  • This is Soooo wierd!

I am danish, and I have never known that there was an Amarican film about H. C. Andersen!

He is a big hero to me, and even though this dosn't look at all like him, and it dosn't seem to be too correct abut his story either, I would really like to see it! What is the name of the film? When is it from?

  • It's a Danny Kaye movie, entitled "Hans Christian Andersen". Before you check it out further, keep in mind that the movie is highly fictionalized.

  • I agree, mechamop. It's not even close to his life, but I still love the movie. Great songs and some pathos.

  • That´s putting it mildly the story has little to NOTHING to do with the real person.

Though i think that a movie that´s 100% true to the real person, might not be all that interesting.

  • Of course you don't know about it.... Europeans don't like it when we Americans make films about their culture!

  • @midnightatutopia

    Say's who??

I think it's awsome that some of the biggest and most talented actors ever..

    is honoring danish culture..

  • I can't find it here on you tube but what's the name of the song when Danny Kaye goes into the theater and sees the ballarina dancing?

  • I think it's "Anywhere I Wander", a sweet, slightly wistful ballad.

  • GingerSnape46, if Wiki is right here is a list

    # Anywhere I Wander"

    # "I'm Hans Christian Andersen"

    # "The Inch Worm"

    # "The King's New Clothes"

    # "No Two People"

    # "Thumbelina"

    # "The Ugly Duckling"

    # "Wonderful Copenhagen"

  • One of my favourite movies.

  • Comment removed

  • I have always enjoyed this movie. Danny Kaye made it great.

  • still a good movie after all these years- reminds me of The Wizard of Oz in some scenes-

  • I remember watching this as a kid

  • /watch?v=fFH0khjgA0U

  • haha xD

Mr. Andersen was such a sad jerk in real life. :)

  • Was he so much a "jerk" that his art can't stand on its own without detraction? Wouldn't you want as much for YOUR memory?

  • The icing on the cake for this little girl after becoming enchanted with the movie was getting the music for the piano. I brought it to a kiddie birthday party and the kids gathered around the piano for a sing-along. I was "encouraged" into this role. The shy kid was not so delighted. :)

  • What a great musical.

They don't make them like this any more.

Now there just full of crappy old pop songs, shame.

  • he come from denmark cool

  • another great production by Samuel Goldwyn

  • Oh gosh, my father showed this movie to me when I was 6 years old. It was my favorite movie. I loved it cos I was always somewhere in a story and my father said I was kind of like him. This was my favorite song. At school I got made fun of cos I would go around belting out this song at recess while other girls were singing Spice girls... It brings back so many memories! Thank you for the post! Made my day! Danny Kaye was so great! And Hans Christian Anderson is one of my favorite authors.

  • One of my most admired writer...

  • He is a danish writer and one of the most famus i denmark

  • Det er ikke kun i Danmark, jo.

  • hey...not fair, this movie was made in the '50's' when Disney and musicals were popular. What would we know bout Scandanavia, especially then. And besides that HCA's stories were a major contribution to children's entertainment. This film was endearing to me as a child and very well done I might add!

  • made by Mc Andersen

  • I LOVE Danny Kaye...he was hilarious in the Court Jester!

  • Oh, I loved that one. It had the young and lovely Angela Lansbury in it.

  • give this a new theatrical life in cinemas. Nothing surpasses it. I retained all the images from boyhood and it all resonates more sense love and creativity than all the PC educational claptrap plaguing this generation

  • Aaah the memories....
