this is a nice video to commemorate someone like Hans Christian Andersen. It is nice to remember someone who has captured the hearts of children from all his wonderful stories. This is really nice. I really like it.
I got surprised when I found out that an english man, made a movie about Hans Christian Andersen. It surprised me, because Denmark IS a small land. But then again, I thought of how talanted HCA was, and instead thought: He deserves no less than this.
"I'm Hans Christian Andersen" <- got that stuck on my brain o.e
I saw this as a kid in school. The thing that stuck with me was, "What's your name?" *singing* "I'm Hans Christian Andersen!" "Thank you. You're under arrest." Hee.
As a result of his critical acclaim in the title role, Danny Kaye became the goodwill ambassador for UNICEF, traveling the world to entertain impoverished, sick children that UNICEF sought to heal.
He is my biggest hero he is an inspiration and isn't afraid of anything or anyone he is an awsome guy and I wish he was still alive thanks H.C.A. your biggest fan :D <3
I am danish, and I have never known that there was an Amarican film about H. C. Andersen!
He is a big hero to me, and even though this dosn't look at all like him, and it dosn't seem to be too correct abut his story either, I would really like to see it! What is the name of the film? When is it from?
The icing on the cake for this little girl after becoming enchanted with the movie was getting the music for the piano. I brought it to a kiddie birthday party and the kids gathered around the piano for a sing-along. I was "encouraged" into this role. The shy kid was not so delighted. :)
Oh gosh, my father showed this movie to me when I was 6 years old. It was my favorite movie. I loved it cos I was always somewhere in a story and my father said I was kind of like him. This was my favorite song. At school I got made fun of cos I would go around belting out this song at recess while other girls were singing Spice girls... It brings back so many memories! Thank you for the post! Made my day! Danny Kaye was so great! And Hans Christian Anderson is one of my favorite authors.
oh my dayz what a blast from the past i remember watching this at my grand parents house when i was a little boy about 3/4 yrs old and im 24 now oh the memorys :0) thanks for the post
I WANT THIS MOVIE! How come I haven't ever heard about it? Well, I think it is nice that it's Christmas soon, I can give it as a present to my mom :D Merry Christmas Everybody ! <3
hey...not fair, this movie was made in the '50's' when Disney and musicals were popular. What would we know bout Scandanavia, especially then. And besides that HCA's stories were a major contribution to children's entertainment. This film was endearing to me as a child and very well done I might add!
give this a new theatrical life in cinemas. Nothing surpasses it. I retained all the images from boyhood and it all resonates more sense love and creativity than all the PC educational claptrap plaguing this generation

It's a Danny Kaye movie, entitled "Hans Christian Andersen". Before you check it out further, keep in mind that the movie is highly fictionalized.
mechamop 2 years ago 21
I agree, mechamop. It's not even close to his life, but I still love the movie. Great songs and some pathos.
ericinwisconsin 2 years ago 4
That´s putting it mildly the story has little to NOTHING to do with the real person.
Though i think that a movie that´s 100% true to the real person, might not be all that interesting.

Of course you don't know about it.... Europeans don't like it when we Americans make films about their culture!

I can't find it here on you tube but what's the name of the song when Danny Kaye goes into the theater and sees the ballarina dancing?
GingerSnape46 2 years ago
I think it's "Anywhere I Wander", a sweet, slightly wistful ballad.
isdabee17 2 years ago
GingerSnape46, if Wiki is right here is a list
# Anywhere I Wander"
# "I'm Hans Christian Andersen"
# "The Inch Worm"
# "The King's New Clothes"
# "No Two People"
# "Thumbelina"
# "The Ugly Duckling"
# "Wonderful Copenhagen"

Was he so much a "jerk" that his art can't stand on its own without detraction? Wouldn't you want as much for YOUR memory?
