@MirkwOodElf89 Nice! I love knitting and i wanna make a scarf as long as Tom Baker's in Doctor Who but that would take really, really, really, REALLY long, so...
Thank you! Of all of the videos I've seen, your's is the best explained & slow enough that I can pick up (not that I'm slow - much).. I've done weaving, but I am branching out to knitting.
i don't understand, to me this looks like knit stitches, so what's a garter stitch? Is it just the effect you get if you use total knitting stitches or is it a different type of stitch? So confused.
You're right, It is just knit stitches. A garter stitch is just the effect you get when you make something using only knit stitches - it's bumpy on both sides and very thick.
The only two stitches you ever learn are knit and purl stitches. I prefer to say "garter pattern" instead of "garter stitches," so it's less confusing because it's just the effect you get from all knit stitches. The two basic patterns are garter (all knit) and stockinette (knit one row, purl one row).
You probably already figured this out, since you posted your question 3 months ago, but to start any scarf, you first need to "cast on." Look up a video on how to cast on.
The number of stitches you cast on determines the width of your scarf. The more stitches you cast on, the wider your scarf will be. Thus a scarf with 20 stitches per row will be wider than a scarf with 15 stitches per row.
Mine get wider and wider too. Then i found my mistakes. The mistake lies in everytime when a row is done. Yr other needle take two strings instead of one. U shd try it out.

wen i 1st started learnin knitting dat happened 2 me as well. parts of de knitted bit mite hav got caught 2 ur needle n it will look lik u've gotten more stitches... these things r a bit skinnier dan ur normal stitches so u can just pull if off ur needle n dont knit it cos if u do u'll just make it wider n wider... hopes dis help... (if im wrong in anyway, feel free 2 tell me !!)
your probly doing it wrong xD that seems obvious, but alot of people do alot of things wrong. you might be picking up stitches that arn't even stitches.
Thank you.
Can you tell me how many stitches you casted on for your scarf?

What a strange way to knit wrapping the thread around the needle!

Why do my edges curl? I have had to tear apart my project several times. Is it possible I am pulling the yarn to tight?

Maybe it's just me but your text fills up the entire screen and blocks out your video.

Grr, I liked the videos better without the captions.

so do you end up with twice as many stitches on a needle when you end the row than when you start the row?

i thought dis was just plain knit stitch... is it not?

Why does mine get wider and wider with each row? it's at the point where it doesn't all fit on the stick anymore.
