I'm a magician in Toronto. While I support your decision, I think its a loss. You're on to something. Copperfield is a trick monkey. But, the magic community needs more people to help redefine magic in the post-modern world, not leave it stranded at sea.
Im 24 and im a magcian, i have lots of friends, i also perform music and produce music, i do stage magic, close-up in restaurants and bars, i make quite a lot pf money and friends, my life wouldnt be better without magic. its not childish, its an art that takes years to master. Just look at Jeff Mcbride, Cardini, Lance Burton, David Copperfield, there not childish.

McBride, Burton, Copperfield, they're all respected in the community of magicians, but to everyone else, they're glorified trick monkeys, as are you to your friends undoubtedly.

I was a magician through my teenage years and used magic for the same thing. But, I quit for a couple of years and gained a personality. Now, i'm back in magic and I don't let it get in the way of making friends. Magic doesn't have to define you, but you don't have to give it up just because you felt it was childish. It's a performance art and if you treated it as fun then people wouldn't have gotten that vibe. It's not magic, it's the magician. Good luck Andy lol
