The Brilliancy Medley/The Cherokee Shuffle. First surfaced on the "Fairport 9" album around 1973 - Swarb fiddle, Dave Pegg mandolin, Dave Mattacks bass (!), Jerry Donahue and Trevor Lucas guitars (Err, I think)
This man is the reason i so unexpectedly picked up a fiddle when i was 15, now its my life. I'll lever forget that year at Cropredy when i saw him play i was totally captivated and knew it was the instrument i wanted to learn. Swarbs, bless you
To be fair,he has not been in the best of health for many years and with help from his mates, has continued to delight.,and most definitely is still playing to his full potential!.
Hurrah for Swarb - with no tubes up his nose and new lungs - whoopee! I too thought he'd had it - was it Martin Carthy who organised a charity concert at Birmingham to help Sward out?
Well, this is just amazing, and deeply moving. Having seen the shape Swarbrick was in when he was interviewed for a Richard Thompson documentary a few years ago ... he was barely breathing ... I never would have thought he'd ever be able to do this again
Saw these three brilliant men in thorganby on Saturday just gone! I got off them a signed piece of the three polkas they played as the (one of many) encore! Love them all.
Thing is, when I was playing football in our, street, Dave would be trotting off to fiddle lessons instead of playing with us. I never got anywhere with my football, so who was the loser! Good to see you survived all your trials old friend. This is what dedication does. Great to see you playing again after all those years.
this is wonderful. I remember the obituary for Dave Swarbrick in the Daily Telegraph newspaper in 1999, and then seeing him in a wheelchair with oxygen tubes up his nose. To see him up and about again is so so good. Lazarus is the right name for this band!
swarb and martin jenkins stayed at my house once when they were on tour in california. they were incredible fun and i still remember how lovely both of them were, even though it was over 20 years ago. i wasn't much of a british folk fan and didn't really know who they were, they were just two guys from out of town who needed a place to stay, but they took out their instruments and played for me and i was gobsmacked.
thanks for posting this! it brings back many happy memories!
Swarb and Allcock together, what an awesome combination! This is one of the best folk videos I've ever seen on youtube.

Yeah, he inspired me to learn the fiddle two years ago (I was 14) and you wouldn't believe what a positive effect that had on me :)

Blimey, what a scraper! Even though I've heard Lazarus perform this live, I always forget just how astonishingly good all three gents are.

There were concerts all over the UK for Dave, arranged by scores of people. Great to see him looking so well. (Hi Darren)!
