Cedric sounds fucking awful, horribly off key, no control at all over his voice. Omar going too crazy with the odd chords that sound like poop. Sounds like he never picked up a guitar before. This is crossing the line of what I would consider creative and great. Its a total mess.

The live versions of their material are more often than not their own separate creation. I love the album recordings, but the live versions really make you appreciate the band even more. I happen to love their high-enegry/chaotic stage presence.
Listen to some more of their live material to really appreciate what's going on.

let's face it, that omar rodriguez guy is one of the worst "progressive" guitar players out there. it's the same noodling all over again, no creativity, he knows some interesting scales but he lacks the technique to really make something out of it. real guitar players are robert fripp, marc ribot, nels cline etc.
in fact this whole band seems to be more about attitude than about musical substance.

Now, don't have an anuerism but The Mars Volta are really terrible live. It's just noisy and chaotic, plus Cedric REALLY needs some goddamn vocal lessons and backup singers. I mean, they fucking amazing in the studio but they need to focus more.
That said, this is a really good performance of Roulette Dares. I fucking wish he'd say "Delay", though. It's annoying.

Wow, Cedric's stage presence is certainly on the ridiculous side... I'm not really sure how to feel about it :s
Not too crazy about his vocals, either. It almost makes me never want to see these guys live, which is a shame.
Omar composes some really great stuff, however.

Now, don't have an anuerism but The Mars Volta are really terrible live. It's just noisy and chaotic, plus Cedric REALLY needs some goddamn vocal lessons and backup singers. I mean, they fucking amazing in the studio but they need to focus more.
That said, this is a really good performance of Roulette Dares. I fucking wish he'd say "Delay", though. It's annoying.

@SpaceWrangler420 He wasn't on acid. Even if he was, that's no excuse. As a performer he has a duty to perform to the best of his ability every show, people pay a lot of money to go see bands live. He's terrible in pretty much every performance.
