The pollution (mostly particulates - dust, etc.) can be from a lot sources... A lot of dust gets sirred up and carried out to sea at times here, and it's said that even air pollution from China makes it all the way over here to California. Remember when Mt. Pinatubo erupted in the Philippines? Even the ash particle pollution from that event gave us amazing sunsets for over a year... Amazing planet earth! :-)
It's ironic that many of our nice sunsets are partially the result of all the particulates and gases (otherwise known as smog and pollution!) in the air here! XD
It was pretty cool to be there and see it in poerson too... I'll have to see about putting up the rest of the realtime footage on the WeirdStuff channel... a sort of outtakes and "making of" sort of thing. Might be interesitng. :-)
And oh! If you ever get the chance, try to visit Ascension Island and record from one of the higher peaks. It's the first example of Terra-forming here on earth. Started in the 17th century, by Mr Darwin I think (A crude explanation, I know).
But! It's supposed to have quite an unusual range of plant-life, trees, shrubbery etc. In addition to a fairly tropical/humid climate, which is quite impressive considering it was little more than an ash-laden island 2+ Centuries ago.
Good to see you again. This was a nice video. I always enjoy your music. How are your bugs? I haven't been on much but I should have a moth video up soon.
Thanks for the kind words, Des. I'm still backlogged with tons of material - new bug footage as well... trying to catch up! Lots of new stuff going up on the JCMDIWeirdStuff channel - vids from the 2010 LA insect fair that you might like. Do send me your moth vid link when it's up, too... Cheers to you and yours! =)
It was actually quite an experience to see this in person - end even more interesting when it's sped-up abit! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! :-)
I still haven't quite got a grasp on the dynamics involved here.. The strange boiling movement doesn't really fit with the terrain below, so there must be some sort of turbulent layers either above or below the clouds which affect their movement... So much we still don't know! :-) Thanks so much for watching!
They can be a bit annoying for sure. Fortunately, they give us the "X" to minimize them, unlike some players which force us to watch them like broadcast TV. :-/ Thanks for the view and kind words! :-)
Been a long time since I played Unreal, but I do remember that I liked the soundtrack. I'll have to see if it will still run on any of my machines and re-visit it... I don't remember if I wrote this music before or after the game. If it was after, the game soundtrack could have had some influence. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting!
Hey there friend! I still love your work. I've always loved the night sky timelapse, and this is also pretty cool! I was wondering, are you still making your bug videos? Those were always interesting, and plus you gave me facts. Stiiiiiiiill haven't gotten a good pic of the 'Mystery Butterfly" since theres been nothing but Monarches this year. I'll catch one someday. ;) Just wanted to drop in and say hello! 1 and a hald years ago I saw your work, and still loving it! :)
Long time no chat - nice to see you here! I'm still making all sorts of stuff; more bug vids coming too. I look forward to seeing pics of your mystery butterfly if you can manage to track it down. Take care and keep in touch! :-)
Since I love learning about things myself, I try to add some educational value to my work by describing in detail what I've filmed and any research I've done just satisfying my own curiosities about how things work :-) Glad you're getting some value from it too! Cheers!
There are definitely some interesting dynamics going on there... the demarcation between the layers shows that the air above the cloud floor is doing something different - like scraping over their surface, creating a turbulent boundary. It would be cool if we could see each layer's activity with visible markers of some kind. :-)
Even sped-up a lot it still looks calm and fairly tranquil - an amazing yet relaxing sight when standing up there watching it :-) Thanks for visiting!
The cloud motion really is pretty cool. From below, there's no indication of this sort of movement whatsoever. And from above, no discernible cause... Too bad we can't see all the air motion and layers involved without clouds... it would be most fascinating :-)
Each clip was actually produced both in modified (darkened) and un-modified versions, and if I could find a way to combine them using some HDR method, I bet the result would be really cool. In this case I just faded one version to the other so the detail at both high and low exposure levels could be seen.
