@phillipgaley No, I agree with you. Whether you are married or not has nothing to do with government approval. I don't have a marriage 'license' but I consider myself married. Only downfall to not having on is i.e. if your spouse is in the hospital, you have no say on how their treatment goes, may not even be allowed to visit. Things like that.
