I am seriously thinking of buying a Yamaha MG102 10 Channel Mixer. Only thing is that this mixer has no XLR 'Outputs' all I want to do is podcast a live talk show with callins. Would this lack of XLR outputs be a problem? Or no?
Your assistance and expertise in this matter would be a huge help too me! Anyone out there have an answer to this?
@MichaelIanHenry You should be fine without the XLR outs. If you wanna record, broadcast live and take calls, I'd recommend the following. AUX send -> call-in-line input, rec out -> live streaming input, stereo out -> audo interface for recording, monitor out -> headphones amp for your co-hosts.
@heestenhats Matter of taste really. These mics are completely different beast and require quite a bit of training in terms of mic technique (speaking into it at the right distance and angle) to get the most out of it. From a purely technical standpoint, the RE20 is better in terms of noise, pickup pattern and pop handling. The preamp plays a big role with these mics too, the Shure is much harder to get to sound nice compared to the RE20. Robin Quivers loves her SM7b and it's part of her sound.
The RE20 and SM7B are in the exact same league sound quality wise, they just sound slightly different, SM7B being a bit more fat and dark, and the RE20 being a bit cleaner and brighter.
\(^_^)/ I'v did it, my very own podcasting studio! Thank you!
