1996 - HBK wins the title from Bret Hart in an amazing Iron Man match at Wrestlemania.
1997 - Undertaker wins the title from Psycho Sid at Wrestlemania.
2009- Thirteen years later HBK and Undertaker are still the damn top dogs!
Yeah yeah I appreciate their classic encounter but it's given more praise than it deserves. That match was ten years too late and it's overrated because every other match sucked! Besides Michaels and Taker have had better encounters.
10:44 THANK YOU!!!!! i'm so sick of people saying taker and michaels at wm 25 is their best match. it might not even be the hell in a cell. tempted by the casket match where michaels injured his back.
I would love Miz and Morrison feuding over WWE championship, Ziggler and McIntyre going for the intercontinental championship( yeah i know, two heels, but currently, all the heels are the best wrestlers exept for Evan Bourne) and lastly, CM Punk, DiBiase and Paul Burchill for the world heavyweight champinship
The definition of an anniversary is a day that commemorates an event that was held on the same day in a prior year. Since the first Wrestlemania was an event and not an anniversary in itself, the second Wrestlemania was the first anniversary of Wrestlemania...and so the 25th wrestlemania was the 24th anniversary of wrestlemania. You're right that last year was the 25th wrestlemania, but it was the 24th anniversary of the first. Hope that helps.
I agree with a lot of what they say but how can they honestly sit their and say that Triple H and Orton suck? Yes it was a God awful match, but Orton has shown time and time again why he is the real deal and although many people dont like Triple H he is and deserves to be in the main event.
Well, they've had plenty of good matches to be sure so maybe it was a little harsh, but for them to not pull through a decent match in the main event I thought was just inexcusable. I'm not a fan of Ortons, though he's certainly had his share of decent-good matches. HHH used to be my favorite, maybe the best wrestler in the world overall at a certain time, but that was a considerable amount of years ago(probably 04-ish) & he hasn't shown me anything stand-out since. Just my opinion. Thanks
HHH was great both in the ring and on the mic but his insistence on essentially dominating the WWE for YEARS just made it boring and repetitive. HHH is probably the no. 1 reason I stopped following the WWE regularly.
i respect these guys for having coming up with this idea. They found their niche and are trying to sell teeshirts and dvd's as well. Good for them! I respect it!
Oh, definitely. I am watching them, having had all the criticisms myself and realizing they are capitalizing on it. Brilliant idea and I'm honestly kind of jealous I didn't think of it.
I kind of felt this way one year after watching a woman win $50,000 for a video of a cat boxing a dog on America's Funniest Videos. Like, holy shit, I could have gotten paid for this since my animals did the same thing.
lol why would WE (the viewers) want to see you? here's some advice, post your OWN video on youtube and send a copy to them. that would prove you right or wrong. personally i think eric (with his VAST wisdom of wrestling) would OWN you
oh yeah I forgat to throw in Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat or Ricky "The Steamboat" Dragon if your Don West.....a dude who hasn't laced a pair of boots in decades...fucking stole the show.
WM25 wasn't THAT bad you guys. Sure the diva thing was a slap in the face to women in wrestling, Orton/HHH was an abortion....buuuut come on Taker was awesome as usual, Ladder match was alright.....Hardy Bros was cool, I agree that Wrestlemania should have been BIGGER, but what can you expect out of the WWE.
They need more managers. Managers make titles important. Look what Haymen did for Lesner, thats what Brock's run was all about was the title. Henan Managed all those people because he wanted to get titles.
I like the fact and always have that the roundtable members don't always agree otherwise it may as well be one guy in front of a cam holding up there fav dvd. I think it's so cool they have Bret the WWE fan there, as it is important to have a balanced view. I'm glad Bret enjoys the show someone should. It's nice to hear not all fans hate Vinces stuff thought I don't watch WWE and am happier for it.
hey whats up ?? i love you guys show but im really confused about your opinions on hbk vs taker??? why dou thats not the best match they had together ? when it obvously is ..then u guys praise it and diss it all in the same breath make up your mind ...i was there in person and its the best wm match ive seen ..a lot of good spots and pops from the crowd as well
it comes from compairing what hbk and taker have done, and still can do, in the past and what they lack today. it's hard being a wrestling fan and not being so critical. still, we should be glad we still get to see them, realize they are getting older, and appreciate the fact that they still entertain.
i have one problem with what you said about that stars....honestly they keep the same stars on top because even though we dont like it it still sells tickets and un til it dosent sell tickets wwe will use the if its not broken dont fix it saying
As far as otron vs hhh, it was a HORRIBLE idea to have them use their finishers in the first 2 minutes because thats supposed to be their best moves, and they waste them in 2 minutes, that leaves absolutley nothing to build off of.
ha, well, I'm a Kid Rock fan and don't like Springsteen, but the point was that I don't think the wrestling fans who paid to see a wrestling show(or in WWE speak, 'the Universe participating in sports entertainment') wanted to see 10+ minutes worth of music on the biggest show in the year. Especially when there's tons of people they liked they'd have rather seen wrestle. I mean, as I said, I'm a Kid Rock fan, but that was just sad and pretty pathetic
Most of us have, actually. Rodney, Lawrence & myself went to WrestleMania 20, Chris was at WrestleMania 24 last year, Bret's been to several I believe including WrestleMania 10.
It is sad seeing how after Mania, there has been little progress.
Good: Edge is out of the title picture, Swagger and Bourne are on RAW, Kofi's taken seriously, Hardy and Punk feud is actually different from others
Bad: STILL Orton v. Cena v. HHH for the WWE belt, RAW is relying on stars OUTSIDE of the WWE, Bourne hasn't had a title run PERIOD, Punk and Hardy feud is not as high as it should've been. It was a bad matchup having Punk (non drug user heel) vs Hardy (drug user face).
Sure ; If the first WrestleMania was held in 1985, then that would make WrestleMania II the first anniversary, WrestleMania III the second anniversary, WrestleMania IV the third anniversary, and so on & so forth.
Would you opt the opportunity to make a show that's the biggest in the wrestling industry in the second biggest state in America by calling it the "silver anniversary?"
it's all about the money, to get people in to witness history
So right that the old guys are great at the little things. I watch guys giving their all these days everywhere and even the best like Joe or AJ are not up to the level of the most average of the old guys. Maybe it's because they have learned badly, I don't know what it is.
i recently watched the taker/hbk match on dvd, and i realized that the match wasn't as great as i rememberd it. it was still damn good and had some great spots, but kinda over rated. it was pretty cool live tho. i was actually there at wrestlemania, and all over the matches seemed better live...especially after tailgating all day lol
that Canadians were not use to great athletes so that is why the valued Bret Hart so highly--can't agree with him on Bret but at first I thought he was going to say Trish Stratus.
Using the travesty of WM25 "Divas" Battle Royal as a jumping off point--it was enough of make fans of women's wrestling wish McMahon would go jump off something--I enjoyed the show on women's wrestling-but though Joshi was mentioned it deserves a show devoted to it; and of course, we should not forget the great women wrestlers from Mexico.
By the way, speaking of Mexico, I saw "El Viejo", Ric Flair saying on the "Off the Record" show from Canada
my god... he didnt put over Booker T and he won this year. and in between? he put over Benoit, Cena, Batista, Orton (all at Mania) and Hardy and others at other PPVs... im sorry HHH decided he'd win for a second time this decade at Mania. what a prick. give me a break.
If you consider the jobs where he's lost to Orton or Hardy as 'putting them over,' then good for you buying in to that. Me, I'll go with "give me a break" on those. As for the rest, yes, he's so unselfish putting over a handful of guys at WM. While that's nice, that totally makes up for Jericho, and Rob Van Dam, and Booker T, and Kane, and SummerSlam 03, and the entire tag division in 06, and Umaga, and Steve Austin in 01, etc. Can we celebrate his Flair-breaking title win together?
a quick reply after 10 months (decided to re-watch a lot of these)... did Kane and Umaga deserve to be put over in a main event way? he can't put over everybody in that kind of way or he'd lose his status and putting people over wouldnt mean anything... i think we give him a hard time because we view him in a non-wrestling role in the company... i mean, did Austin or Rock put over more than HHH? not really, but we dont blame them for it...
also, sorry for the sarcastic tone in the original post
im not a cm punk hater but having him win the mitb for a 2nd year in a row was a huge mistake, u got christian there hu cudda got his push, shelton so needs to win it an absolutely amazing athlete and performer, however the undertaker shawn michaels match was incredible and really picked the event up
I agree that Shelton is long overdue for a title reign, and I'm also sick of seeing the same guys in the main event spots all the time. Even when austin was on top they made new stars in the process( the rock, mankind, HHH, and kurt angle). None of which where in the main event spots prior to 98. Shelton is more talent than most of the top guys and vince knows that, so he is going to hold him down to make his medicore main eventers look better than their average asses are.
for the most part yer right, but sheltons biggest problem might be his lack of mic skills and holding on to an actuall character for people to hate or get behind..
I say mike skills is unnecissary in pro wrestling. I mean, connecting with the fans is fine! But saying "oh, he can't get push because he can't talk...." Look at Leasner! They gave him Paul Heyman! And Taker barely talks nowadays, and HE got 2 world title reigns recently! I mean, COME ON!
but you already know taker has good mic skills..the GUYS BEEN THERE FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS! LMAO not to mention he cut alot of promos when he was the american bad ass, plus he already established himself in the company and with the fans. lesner learned how to cut promos too, even after he didn't have paul heyman. you can't just connect with people based off skills alone, im mean it's not like the 80's and 90's anymore but some ammount of promo skills is needed..that is a given
ok, don't get it twisted, i keep saying i am a huge shelton fan. i like a wrestler based of a large varitey or reasons, but i know you need to connect somehow, and for a majority, promos are the way. theres a huge roster of people who had the talent but never had the promo skills and that held them back. now im not saying it's completly fair but thats how the WWE and a large part of it's current fan base precieves it
Mvp is not as gifted in ring as S.B but blows him away with mic skills..fact
I agree, I'm tired of the same people main eventing WM. Why hasn't Shelton been in the mainevent? CM Punk was over from the beginning, he should have been pushed better, Morrison is gifted, but yet they screw these guys over. Like I said Shelton was over with the fans back in 2004-05, then all of a sudden they stop pushing him! He has tons of charisma, but it's just the creative don't know what they're doing, and I guarantee if Paul Heyman was still there, Shelton would be an even bigger star.
Finally someone has agreed with me about Shelton for once! You're the only one who replied who didn't bad mouth the guy! Like I keep telling these WWE marks, the reason Shelton is not at the top is not his own fault, it's WWE's fault. He doesn't have the creative freedom that Cena or Edge has. And I believe WWE is racists cause Booket T is the only black world champ they've have. Rock doesn't count cause he's biracial and they related him more to his Samoan hertitage.
Racism against blacks can go back an forth. The Rock for instance was a breakthrough, but I don't think being biracial saved his career. I think the fact he is a 3rd generation star and the son and grandson of some famous wrestlers.
Booker T is the most evident of a black man getting screwed over in the WWE. (see Wrestlemania XIX).
Now we can agree not ALL blacks should get a push..but Shelton was screwed over! He had opportunity four years ago! It will be a miracle if he gets aWHC reign
ook, as big as i am a shelton b fan and would love to see atleast one fully black talented wrestler in the mainevent scene for once, shelton had no type of character or anything creative going for him at all when his push was going on...he got by with his talent alone, and that only got him so far. he needs to show me a reason to put my faith in him again, and its not just up to creative, as most wrestlers now and days come up with there own shit and strike gold that way
I think the reason he's in this state is that damn Mamma's boy gimmick!
If you ask me, if that didn't happen, ppl would still be on his side, demanding for a push!
what bothers me is that they are now turning Morrison face and keeping shelton heel! It's nice to see these two feud, but why does shelton still have to be heel? I would like the WWE give him a shot at a face turn and see what happens.
I love you guys. You say what I scream at people about in the WWE Universe forums. And let me just say I started watching in 1991 I think. ANyway, that DVD 'Greatest Wrestlers of the 90s' that's one DVD the WWE actually got right. It owns. Okay. I pretty much agree with everything you said. If it wasn't for the fact that we paid $50 to watch maina, my brother and I could have left right after the Michaels/Taker match. Was pissed that Punk won. Hated Mania for the most part except for 3 matches.
the m.I.t.B match makes me sad sometimes. all my current favs were in and yet they put CM punk over again in that match, not that i have a problem with him..i just think somebody could have used that push
black wrestlers won't get far, and it's a shame that the only "black" wrestler to hold the prestigous WWF/WWE title was the rock, but they played more off his samoan heritage in the end.
man i cant agree with you more at what u said towards the end. i've been watching wwe for 20 years and it is true. i would love to see wwe push there young talent. from kofi, bourne, morrison, debiase, swagger... ect instead of watching basically the same wrestlemaina from 4 years ago.
I like the last point you made, but do you think is because there the ones are selling tickets?merchandise? I feel it might be due to this, why change something that is making a profit to wwe? I do hope with the draft over will see some new stars but its really up to wrestlers themselves if they are willing to step up.Great vid guys.
It's not really up to the wrestlers by themselves ; What difference does it make if a guy's good + ready(or not) if they're never even given a chance to do anything? There've been tons of potentially good - & $ making - wrestlers who've never even been put on TV. Anyway, these older guys - HBK, UT, HHH, etc. - they are draws to varying degrees, yes. But no where near the draws of the younger guys(Cena for one) and they could make so much more $ makers if they cultivated them. Don't be WCW!
Thanks for the invite. In a way they are giving some chances to young stars (i.e. ECW). Its not perfect, but it does gets some wrestlers notice. Now since rumors are going around about many of these older wrestlers leaving this might be the year will see some new faces, and knowing Vince I doubt he wants to end up like WCW.
the WWE has a record on gambling with those who were not selling merchandise!
They gambled on JBL for godsakes!! They gambled with Khali and Kozlov!!
It's not "merchandise" it's just the old fogey of a boss McMahon choosing who HE thinks people will have interest in. And he' s making a shit load of blanks!!
Well I know I am late doing this but I really am glad that I did not pay to see this WM. I saw the clips and photos and feel that Taker/Shawn Michaels was a good match but the rest was crap. By the way, E...please do more blogs after the PPV. One more thing, if WM was crappy...do you think SummerSlam will be horrible?
We can all agree from the look on the card, this 24th anniversary musical instrument edition wrestlemania (how ironic it was the musical instrument edition thanks to Kid Rock) that the card was poorly thought out.
In my opinion, even with the lousy card, the mania could've been enjoyable. However over half the matches that happened in mania didn't finish the way it should/we wanted to.
From the dark match to the MITB. The WHC bouts weren't special anyways so thtat's a given loss.
hey since punk got drafted to smackdown & it looks like he's gonna win the world title from whoever wins the last man standing match at backlash, do you think he might actually get a good title reign?
I don't really give a fuck unless he's doing something phenominal. If he pins Cena, there might be something. If he pins Edge, (if the winner) it's a rerun from last year. And ten to one that's EXACTLY what will happen and I doubt the WWE will have him turn heel
I thought Wrestlemania was a decent show. The Hardys and Taker/HBK match was excellent. :) Though, the main event was disappointing as it was a bit boring. But overall. I enjoyed it.
And the most highlight of it was to see Steamboat showing us that he still got it. :)
Taker/Michaels couldn't have been better, but I do agree with you all when you say it ain't the best match in WM history.
Even though it was fantastic, I don't care for these guys as much as Rock and Hogan, which is still my favourite WM match. The match missed something for that reason.
Austin HOF.. I think that his induction at that moment was fine. I mean hes basically done anyways so why not, do it right, in texas at WM. taker and hbk, i think that match was great. they told a story and delivered the MOTN. I mean who didnt mark out when hbk kicked outta the tombstone lol. triple threat match.. i thought it was gonna suck but ill admit the match was good, didnt care for cenas entrance though. i thought it was pretty stale honestly. hhh and orton, i blame hhh..
lacking freshness, palatability, or showing deterioration from age. his entrance wasnt the first time weve seen something like that, hell, eminem was doing that in the 90s.
lol Eminem did that ONE TIME at a music awards show. Doint it ONE TIME 14 years later does not make it stale. Stale, in regards to wrestling, is when it's done a whole bunch of times and gets boring
The legends vs jericho match...what a waste. Other than seeing steamboat bring it, this match was a waste of time on the biggest show of the year. Cant believe they couldnt get jericho more to do.. Although, I think they shouldve dug up Ralphus somewhere and had him be his security for the night lol. I mean hey, if they gonna showcase has beens, why not? the hardys... the match was OK but the ending made up for it, didnt see that ending coming. Shouldve been a cage match though.
Punk was the LAST person I thought was gonna win. I though MVP was gonna win and deserved it more. Lol, sry for you guys, I saw it online at a stream site. Ugh, the divas match, totally skipped it, will prolly never watch it. The kid rock performance shouldve opened the damn show, wwe is so stupid sometimes.. I was PISSED when I found out that the tag match was left off the show for this garbage. I was actually looking forward to seeing it!
Chuck5007, that's exactly my point. 19 had bigger matches than Triple H and Booker T, but 18 also had bigger matches than Triple H/Jericho and 25 had a bigger match than Triple H/Orton. But at Wrestlemania the title is what's treated as the top match (another argument can be made as to whether special cases should be made (eg. Hogan/Rock, Taker Michaels) but for now that's just how it is
wrestlemania 19 had bigger matches than HHH/Booker T. You AND HHH know that. These guys (wrestling roundtable) may be biased, but WWE is DEFINITELY biased for HHH. After 25 wrestlemanias you CANNOT justify that HHH & Randy Orton are the biggest stars in this industry today because they are NOT.
The dumbest comment on this whole video is when they say Triple H didn't learn from his mistake in 2002 and put himself in the main event over the match everyone wanted to see. You people act like Triple H makes the match lineups. It's Vince McMahon that makes these decisions. Why didn't Triple H headline Wrestlemania 19 with Booker then if he's the one calling the shots? Huh? Sometimes you guys let your bias cloud your perspective
Yeah but when Triple H is in production and creative meetings backstage giving okays on match storylines and outcomes and he comes out and buries people, you don't hear him complain or object much either, that's why he gets so much heat.
tvcch, you may not know this but Triple H isn't the one that gives the "okay on match storylines and outcomes". It's not up to him. It's been stated numerous times by him and others that Vince is the one that has to OK every little thing on every show, even recently admitting that he has a hard time working with Vince because if Vince doesn't want something it doesnt' happen, no matter who is pushing it
I agree that Vince is the ultmate trigger puller in WWE but you can't say that Triple H has no input in storylines after six years. I mean the guy does call his own matches
Oh he has say, but that doesn't mean he gets his way all the time. As for Triple H calling his matches, so what? Stone Cold, Jericho, Michaels, Undertaker, Flair...it goes on and on...all call their own matches or at least call spots. It's what they call being a ring "General". Some like to pre-organize their whole match beforehand, some like to go out and call it blind
This is more of an aesthetic comment, but is anybody else sick of how BLUE Wrestlemania has become?? Jesus Christ, it was overbearing! Why do they feel the need to do that?
With Punk, it was like they could smell the pussy. They could smell and knew what they had. But rather than savor it and play the 'give a little to get a little' game, they just blew their wad in the first few seconds. Now they are acting like it never fucking happened. They've changed their Looms and their ready to try again. What the fuck? They had so many guys who were ready for a shot, and they decide to go right back to the same guy they fucked it up with last year. FUCK!!!!!!!
just consider this... if say Shelton/MVP or even freakin Christian won the MITB, and cash it in, the MITB winner --> heavyweight champion will feud with CM Punk who wil lturn Heel DURING the championship match!
I knew the WWE would do something that stupid! Yet it still a big surprise they ACTUALLY did that! I don't know why, guess because there was an ounce of optimism saying they might.
I am glad I am not the only guy who thinks WWE fucked up MITB!
People are begging for Stone Cold and The Rock to come back because they cannot stand what the WWE has become. If Kurt Angle came back he would get the biggest pop ever, but it would be more of a "THANK FUCKING CHRIST" kind of pop. But even that would be a huge step in the wrong direction. They already prematurely ejaculated with CM Punk, so his chance is done. Nobody wants to see him as champ. I don't think they will ever pull the trigger on Christian, so of course he'll go to waste.
The WWE should be trying to please all of their fans, but instead they only want to please as few as possible. Kids are stupid and happy, so why the fuck should Vince care if his product is in the shitter. Pretty soon Taker, Rey, and Michaels will be gone. Then where will the WWE be. I might watch, but only if Jericho sticks around. They will never give Morrison or Christian the pushes they deserve. Cena is gonna bow out and start making shitty movies full-time.
They just don't give a shit about the 'real' fans. It seems that as soon as your balls drop, Vince and Trips don't consider you an integral of their viewing audience. All they care about is pleasing the little kids, because their parents are the ones buyin the most tickets and crappy merchandise. If you read JR's shitty blog you might get the idea that he feels the same. He fucking dismisses any complaints like that persons opinion doesn't fucking matter.
Mark "Mark lol" my words Bret is becoming more and more beat down with the anti WWE stuff oneday he will snap on this day run for the hills. Good show funny Boss Man bit shame on u Jerry
regarding your last statement.... i'm a fan of about 5 years or so and i use to watch when i was five in the ninties... but the only person that has moved up and became one of my favoirtes (comparable to hulk hogan) is john cena.. other then that nobody has really moved up... people have moved down... its sad
i like that eric not even black and still chooses to see the big picture about that money in the bank and i like how he also pointed out that the young guys get no shine its starting to look like wcw.
Austin is in his home state and the top guy of the past 15 years, so ofcourse he should've been in the HOF. I was there and the fans chanted 1 more match and Austin shot that down.
I can't really say anything but i hated pretty everything about wm25, i even hate the taker/hbk because i knew it was going to be overrated, it was decent, but not the greatest match ever.
I know this is a little off topic, but did you see the ROH youtube channel the other day? Colt Cabana was wearing a wrestling roundtable t-shirt, honest to GOD
I am too, at least was until this year. I never won a match (I'm not muscular and not skilled at ALL), but because of it I managed to lose a good 15 pounds, so I'm not a circle anymore (I'm more of an oval). I wrestled in the 175 class (which is why I lost) but eventually dropped to 160 my second year. I'm in my third year of high school, but I stopped wrestling in favor of the drama department.
WM XXV left an empty feeling in me at the end of the show, i mean eric made a great point...1990 at wm vi, warrior was on top, 94 at wm x, bret was, 98, austin was, 02, HHH, 06, HHH, i mean HHH mainevented EVERY wm for his brand since the brand extension...fucking a joke!! Hes great and all but hes overstaying his welcome at the helm, and the midcard is needs pushed ASAP! WWE is becoming like 1998 WCW, same guys on top for 7+ years is not a successful formula.
yet some of us expect a change from the WWE by now. Optimistic ideas hat seems to come up short is a sad thing.
And even YOU should admit that the WWE strayed more than far away from what they were back in the 90s. Their last good wrestlemania, was 21. Afterwards was recycled crap, featuring a card of underrated superstars being topped by overrated superstars. This mania could've been a whole lot better if the WWE stopped doing the same shit over and over again!
Actually thinking about the only thing i can remember about wm21 is mitb, oh yeah that was also the event where they killed my interest in wrestling, cena and batista as champs, yay.
@DWR6943 I'd rather have THE Rock at Mania than either of those two lol

Yeah I always got that feeling that HHH and Orton simply didn't have any chemistry in the ring. Not saying all of their matches are garbage.

If you visit Triple H's office in Stamford you'll find the bodies of Randy Orton and Chris Jericho buried underneath it.

I would love Miz and Morrison feuding over WWE championship, Ziggler and McIntyre going for the intercontinental championship( yeah i know, two heels, but currently, all the heels are the best wrestlers exept for Evan Bourne) and lastly, CM Punk, DiBiase and Paul Burchill for the world heavyweight champinship

how is WrestleMania 25. not the 25th anniversary of WrestleMania? it is the 24th on Pay Per View, but it's not the 24th WrestleMania.
And WWE is just stale now...there's no longer any good characters, so they need the big namesfrom the past to sell their product.
WWE has been stale, since they removed the "F".

DeathAdder83 2 years ago
They need more managers. Managers make titles important. Look what Haymen did for Lesner, thats what Brock's run was all about was the title. Henan Managed all those people because he wanted to get titles.

it comes from compairing what hbk and taker have done, and still can do, in the past and what they lack today. it's hard being a wrestling fan and not being so critical. still, we should be glad we still get to see them, realize they are getting older, and appreciate the fact that they still entertain.

i have one problem with what you said about that stars....honestly they keep the same stars on top because even though we dont like it it still sells tickets and un til it dosent sell tickets wwe will use the if its not broken dont fix it saying

It was a bad matchup having Punk (non drug user heel) vs Hardy (drug user face).

my god... he didnt put over Booker T and he won this year. and in between? he put over Benoit, Cena, Batista, Orton (all at Mania) and Hardy and others at other PPVs... im sorry HHH decided he'd win for a second time this decade at Mania. what a prick. give me a break.
paveguitar 2 years ago
If you consider the jobs where he's lost to Orton or Hardy as 'putting them over,' then good for you buying in to that. Me, I'll go with "give me a break" on those. As for the rest, yes, he's so unselfish putting over a handful of guys at WM. While that's nice, that totally makes up for Jericho, and Rob Van Dam, and Booker T, and Kane, and SummerSlam 03, and the entire tag division in 06, and Umaga, and Steve Austin in 01, etc. Can we celebrate his Flair-breaking title win together?
-E
WrestlingRoundtable 2 years ago
a quick reply after 10 months (decided to re-watch a lot of these)... did Kane and Umaga deserve to be put over in a main event way? he can't put over everybody in that kind of way or he'd lose his status and putting people over wouldnt mean anything... i think we give him a hard time because we view him in a non-wrestling role in the company... i mean, did Austin or Rock put over more than HHH? not really, but we dont blame them for it...
also, sorry for the sarcastic tone in the original post

im not a cm punk hater but having him win the mitb for a 2nd year in a row was a huge mistake, u got christian there hu cudda got his push, shelton so needs to win it an absolutely amazing athlete and performer, however the undertaker shawn michaels match was incredible and really picked the event up
Crookmeisteren 2 years ago
The WWE screwed up the MITB this year! They have no idea that they could've had a) a new star win the MITB
and b) have punk turn heel out of jealousy for the MITB, start a huge feud, and maybe go somewhere with it!
RandomMindz 2 years ago
I agree that Shelton is long overdue for a title reign, and I'm also sick of seeing the same guys in the main event spots all the time. Even when austin was on top they made new stars in the process( the rock, mankind, HHH, and kurt angle). None of which where in the main event spots prior to 98. Shelton is more talent than most of the top guys and vince knows that, so he is going to hold him down to make his medicore main eventers look better than their average asses are.
sfields425 2 years ago
for the most part yer right, but sheltons biggest problem might be his lack of mic skills and holding on to an actuall character for people to hate or get behind..
for the record im a huge shelton b fan lol
thedrifter 2 years ago
I say mike skills is unnecissary in pro wrestling. I mean, connecting with the fans is fine! But saying "oh, he can't get push because he can't talk...." Look at Leasner! They gave him Paul Heyman! And Taker barely talks nowadays, and HE got 2 world title reigns recently! I mean, COME ON!
RandomMindz 2 years ago
and whoever disagrees with me, that's fine!
MY prob is that I typically skip the backstage segments/talks in the ring...unless it involves Jericho
RandomMindz 2 years ago
but you already know taker has good mic skills..the GUYS BEEN THERE FOR ALMOST 20 YEARS! LMAO not to mention he cut alot of promos when he was the american bad ass, plus he already established himself in the company and with the fans. lesner learned how to cut promos too, even after he didn't have paul heyman. you can't just connect with people based off skills alone, im mean it's not like the 80's and 90's anymore but some ammount of promo skills is needed..that is a given
thedrifter 2 years ago 2
"you can't just connect with people based of skills alone..."
boy, if I am given a dime every time I heard that...I'd be rich!
Well, seeing you guys and the WWE focus on that, then I predict that Shelton will be released within 3 years w/o a world title reign....
oh well, maybe MVP can get one.....
RandomMindz 2 years ago
ok, don't get it twisted, i keep saying i am a huge shelton fan. i like a wrestler based of a large varitey or reasons, but i know you need to connect somehow, and for a majority, promos are the way. theres a huge roster of people who had the talent but never had the promo skills and that held them back. now im not saying it's completly fair but thats how the WWE and a large part of it's current fan base precieves it
Mvp is not as gifted in ring as S.B but blows him away with mic skills..fact

RandomMindz 2 years ago
I agree, I'm tired of the same people main eventing WM. Why hasn't Shelton been in the mainevent? CM Punk was over from the beginning, he should have been pushed better, Morrison is gifted, but yet they screw these guys over. Like I said Shelton was over with the fans back in 2004-05, then all of a sudden they stop pushing him! He has tons of charisma, but it's just the creative don't know what they're doing, and I guarantee if Paul Heyman was still there, Shelton would be an even bigger star.
Bossdog05 2 years ago
THANK YOU!!
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks Shetlon is BEYOND overdue for a world title!
RandomMindz 2 years ago
Finally someone has agreed with me about Shelton for once! You're the only one who replied who didn't bad mouth the guy! Like I keep telling these WWE marks, the reason Shelton is not at the top is not his own fault, it's WWE's fault. He doesn't have the creative freedom that Cena or Edge has. And I believe WWE is racists cause Booket T is the only black world champ they've have. Rock doesn't count cause he's biracial and they related him more to his Samoan hertitage.
Bossdog05 2 years ago
Racism against blacks can go back an forth. The Rock for instance was a breakthrough, but I don't think being biracial saved his career. I think the fact he is a 3rd generation star and the son and grandson of some famous wrestlers.
Booker T is the most evident of a black man getting screwed over in the WWE. (see Wrestlemania XIX).
Now we can agree not ALL blacks should get a push..but Shelton was screwed over! He had opportunity four years ago! It will be a miracle if he gets aWHC reign
RandomMindz 2 years ago 2
AMEN!!!!
Karter805 2 years ago
ook, as big as i am a shelton b fan and would love to see atleast one fully black talented wrestler in the mainevent scene for once, shelton had no type of character or anything creative going for him at all when his push was going on...he got by with his talent alone, and that only got him so far. he needs to show me a reason to put my faith in him again, and its not just up to creative, as most wrestlers now and days come up with there own shit and strike gold that way
thedrifter 2 years ago
IMO he was great with his IC reign.
RandomMindz 2 years ago
I love you guys. You say what I scream at people about in the WWE Universe forums. And let me just say I started watching in 1991 I think. ANyway, that DVD 'Greatest Wrestlers of the 90s' that's one DVD the WWE actually got right. It owns. Okay. I pretty much agree with everything you said. If it wasn't for the fact that we paid $50 to watch maina, my brother and I could have left right after the Michaels/Taker match. Was pissed that Punk won. Hated Mania for the most part except for 3 matches.
passiondiva05 2 years ago
the m.I.t.B match makes me sad sometimes. all my current favs were in and yet they put CM punk over again in that match, not that i have a problem with him..i just think somebody could have used that push
black wrestlers won't get far, and it's a shame that the only "black" wrestler to hold the prestigous WWF/WWE title was the rock, but they played more off his samoan heritage in the end.
thedrifter 2 years ago
man i cant agree with you more at what u said towards the end. i've been watching wwe for 20 years and it is true. i would love to see wwe push there young talent. from kofi, bourne, morrison, debiase, swagger... ect instead of watching basically the same wrestlemaina from 4 years ago.

I like the last point you made, but do you think is because there the ones are selling tickets?merchandise? I feel it might be due to this, why change something that is making a profit to wwe? I do hope with the draft over will see some new stars but its really up to wrestlers themselves if they are willing to step up.Great vid guys.
kurtismayfield123 2 years ago
It's not really up to the wrestlers by themselves ; What difference does it make if a guy's good + ready(or not) if they're never even given a chance to do anything? There've been tons of potentially good - & $ making - wrestlers who've never even been put on TV. Anyway, these older guys - HBK, UT, HHH, etc. - they are draws to varying degrees, yes. But no where near the draws of the younger guys(Cena for one) and they could make so much more $ makers if they cultivated them. Don't be WCW!
-E
WrestlingRoundtable 2 years ago
Thanks for the invite. In a way they are giving some chances to young stars (i.e. ECW). Its not perfect, but it does gets some wrestlers notice. Now since rumors are going around about many of these older wrestlers leaving this might be the year will see some new faces, and knowing Vince I doubt he wants to end up like WCW.
kurtismayfield123 2 years ago
the WWE has a record on gambling with those who were not selling merchandise!
They gambled on JBL for godsakes!! They gambled with Khali and Kozlov!!

Hogan/Rock, Taker Michaels) but for now that's just how it is
fundy23 2 years ago
From 17:00 on, what Eric points out is what I believe is what is wrong with the show. Loyalty is going to keep them afloat for so long.
chuck5007 2 years ago
wrestlemania 19 had bigger matches than HHH/Booker T. You AND HHH know that. These guys (wrestling roundtable) may be biased, but WWE is DEFINITELY biased for HHH. After 25 wrestlemanias you CANNOT justify that HHH & Randy Orton are the biggest stars in this industry today because they are NOT.
chuck5007 2 years ago 3
yeah but that mania was just as bogus as they stated in their last video
Brock screws up the SSP
Triple H beats Booker after a racial remark
and rey mysterio loses to Matt in a cruiserweight title match.
overall, yeah, it was pretty bad.
but you are right after 25 manias, HHH and Orton are recycled crap from 4 years ago when they ALREADY had matches like at Mania!!
RandomMindz 2 years ago
The dumbest comment on this whole video is when they say Triple H didn't learn from his mistake in 2002 and put himself in the main event over the match everyone wanted to see. You people act like Triple H makes the match lineups. It's Vince McMahon that makes these decisions. Why didn't Triple H headline Wrestlemania 19 with Booker then if he's the one calling the shots? Huh? Sometimes you guys let your bias cloud your perspective
fundy23 2 years ago
Yeah but when Triple H is in production and creative meetings backstage giving okays on match storylines and outcomes and he comes out and buries people, you don't hear him complain or object much either, that's why he gets so much heat.
tvcch3 2 years ago
tvcch, you may not know this but Triple H isn't the one that gives the "okay on match storylines and outcomes". It's not up to him. It's been stated numerous times by him and others that Vince is the one that has to OK every little thing on every show, even recently admitting that he has a hard time working with Vince because if Vince doesn't want something it doesnt' happen, no matter who is pushing it
fundy23 2 years ago
I agree that Vince is the ultmate trigger puller in WWE but you can't say that Triple H has no input in storylines after six years. I mean the guy does call his own matches
tvcch3 2 years ago
Oh he has say, but that doesn't mean he gets his way all the time. As for Triple H calling his matches, so what? Stone Cold, Jericho, Michaels, Undertaker, Flair...it goes on and on...all call their own matches or at least call spots. It's what they call being a ring "General". Some like to pre-organize their whole match beforehand, some like to go out and call it blind

They've changed their Looms and their ready to try again. What the fuck? They had so many guys who were ready for a shot, and they decide to go right back to the same guy they fucked it up with last year. FUCK!!!!!!!

I don't care WHAT ppl think...
just consider this... if say Shelton/MVP or even freakin Christian won the MITB, and cash it in, the MITB winner --> heavyweight champion will feud with CM Punk who wil lturn Heel DURING the championship match!
I knew the WWE would do something that stupid! Yet it still a big surprise they ACTUALLY did that! I don't know why, guess because there was an ounce of optimism saying they might.
I am glad I am not the only guy who thinks WWE fucked up MITB!

that was the best analogy ive ever heard

Cena is gonna bow out and start making shitty movies full-time.
harrissizzle 2 years ago 2
They just don't give a shit about the 'real' fans. It seems that as soon as your balls drop, Vince and Trips don't consider you an integral of their viewing audience. All they care about is pleasing the little kids, because their parents are the ones buyin the most tickets and crappy merchandise. If you read JR's shitty blog you might get the idea that he feels the same. He fucking dismisses any complaints like that persons opinion doesn't fucking matter.

Austin is in his home state and the top guy of the past 15 years, so ofcourse he should've been in the HOF. I was there and the fans chanted 1 more match and Austin shot that down.

Here be a Q! What was the whole Jericho-Micheals feud and Jeri-turn in 2008 about? I don't understand why they started feuding.

I can't really say anything but i hated pretty everything about wm25, i even hate the taker/hbk because i knew it was going to be overrated, it was decent, but not the greatest match ever.
roh1234 2 years ago
I know this is a little off topic, but did you see the ROH youtube channel the other day? Colt Cabana was wearing a wrestling roundtable t-shirt, honest to GOD

Lol you gotta post the link to that video.

Yes, that was a great, pleasant surprise and I popped for that when I saw it, heh.

Hey Rodney, were you a wrestler in high school?
I am too, at least was until this year. I never won a match (I'm not muscular and not skilled at ALL), but because of it I managed to lose a good 15 pounds, so I'm not a circle anymore (I'm more of an oval). I wrestled in the 175 class (which is why I lost) but eventually dropped to 160 my second year. I'm in my third year of high school, but I stopped wrestling in favor of the drama department.
...maybe I should look into pro wrestling, haha!

Dude, the Hardy match sucked. Like seriously, it was TRASH!
Alex703rockstar 2 years ago
backyard wrestling hasnt been like that in over a decade
poopzakishawt 2 years ago
Another dumb statement...
"the hardy match was like a backyard wrestling match"
um, what do u think an extreme rules match is? headlocks and leg holds? u must've hated ECW then..
MusicisLife1121 2 years ago
they don't actually
In fact, they hate "the bastard child" CZW!
LOL
RandomMindz 2 years ago
And to be fair, almost every latest WWE extreme rules/hardcore/no holds barred match that came by were all lackluster!!
Hell, I thought the stretcher match between the Hardys was a joke....not bad...but not good either.
RandomMindz 2 years ago
AND I strongly believe, the WWE should be barred from ever uttering the term "extreme rules/extremist/land of the extreme"
unless of course they are referencing the Hardy Boyz.
The WWE should just stick to the term "hardcore".
It's beyond blasphemy and is on the same level as HBK using the *smirk* Dainel Killer Crossface!!
Of course, if we cannot have stars like Eric listed right at the end of the segment to be main eventers...
what are the odds the WWE would actually BE barred?
RandomMindz 2 years ago
dude u guys are so overcritical its almost pathetic.
u guys basically just shit on everything. why even watch wrestling just to take huge craps on every idea they come up with?
MusicisLife1121 2 years ago
maybe if they actually came up with good ideas there wouldn't be anything to crap on.
Rko595Music 2 years ago
and maybe if u dont like any of their ideas u should just watch another show.
MusicisLife1121 2 years ago
some of us are
yet some of us expect a change from the WWE by now.
RandomMindz 2 years ago
Actually thinking about the only thing i can remember about wm21 is mitb, oh yeah that was also the event where they killed my interest in wrestling, cena and batista as champs, yay.
roh1234 2 years ago
actually I think wm21 made sense:
both cena and batista deserved to be champs at the time....
Just nowadays it's overkill
I think it will be hella interesting if BOTH of them turned heel!!
HO - LY shit!! The Second Two Man Power Trip!
