@SteveYoung2011 Read the other comments, this was by the hour work so I could carefully sort the pavement from the gravel road core we were recycling. Shaving 3" of pavement with a 8 yd bucket and not mixing gravel it means you don't worry about a heaped bucket.
Looks like it is hard to get a good full bucket load of that crap. Looks like you did well considering it sucks to load that stuff. - - I got a kick out of how you rocked the drivers world on the last bucket load. cool.
bit of an over kill aint it.... 35000 dollar machine a month loading asfault.... wow.... no production in that and a pee on on a 345 can do it the same
@ford2002boy1 Not when the developer is paying us by the hour to do it! It's cheaper for them to pay us by the hour rather then to pay mobilize a smaller machine to the site for 3 hours of work.
quick ? ive been running a forklift for nearly 8 years now and its gotten old. but the ? is do the controls and movements on a machine of this size become second nature as they are on the forklift. i feel as if the i can predict and make my moves before the machine. think i may look into a training facility
I really enjoy watching your videos, it is how you make these video's that has me extremely interested as I have been trying to do the same thing to no evail. I have not been abe to get the my video camera stable inside the machine I have even tried using my Iphone which has actually given me my best results to date. @jetspaul Nope further south, try to stay out of the big dirty unless I'm passing through! I use a manfrotto (aka expensive) suction cup mount from filmtools. Worth every penny!
@JTFRACING13 8 is the biggest cat makes for a 385. You can go aftermarket and get bigger but it would be too tippy. 8 is already pushing the limit a bit.
Ooo right,, so im guessing the grade stakes have some sort of marking on them as regards how deep you go?? sorry if im boring you with these questions im just very curious. :) thanks.
@vantagetes was just havin a nosey on you youtube page, your 25 and a foreman im impressed!!, you must useing heavy plant from a young age?? great vids me man, ill not lie to you im a wee bit jealous ha ha happy diggin buddy
@MrJamessproule actually I have only really operated heavy equipment for around six years now. I grew up loving machines so I've always been watching them work, reading about them and talking to other operators. Its not really a job, its my life! I did start off early on farm equipment but again that's somewhat limited.
@vantagetes was wondering do you work from a plan, ie drawings, or is it a case of your boss just tells you what he wants done for the day, because it seems from your vids like your out there all day just filling dump trucks,??? this might seem like a stupid question but had to ask..........I work in a quarry so i know very little of the the type of work you guys do, i could pretend i do but i dont haha, im pretty sure id like that kinda work more so than what im doin at the moment..
@MrJamessproule Usually the operators don't use the plans, they use the grade stakes to tell them how much the grade has to change and where. The plans will only show you final elevation and locations of the stakes in the "big picture". Some stuff like cleaning this pavement off is just "this is what we need done, have fun!" but the rest is all grade work (even while loading trucks I'm cutting grade 99% of the time).
nice hoe... i ran a komatsu pc 600 is that about the same size machine i have only ever seen one 385c before and it looked smaller than the 600 i was just wondering about the comparison?
@bigdan45322 the 365 is slightly larger (but for argument sake we will say the same size) at the PC600. The 385 is the same size as the PC850, so three sizes larger (PC600, PC750, PC800, PC850) and 25 tons (the weight of a PC220) than a PC600.
ur a good operator mate, ur videos rock... i enjoy reading the comment where u c morons giving there stupid openion on things that they only think they know, it makes me laugh
i was working alongside 2 740 ejector adt`s, safer in soft ground no tippin the bin! there currently the only 2 ejectors in the republic of ireland at the moment! cat 385`s and pc800`s loading a40`s in 3 passes! about 15, 80 or 90 ton diggers on site! motorway project!
They have issues in the winter with the dirt freezing along the ejector rails and jamming them. Causes too much downtime which is why we only have a few.
you get paid more if it takes longer but man you have to move a little faster then that i have been watching the vids and you are just a bit slow use the different modes and work faster nice vid
Now with a 12 hour day, how long did you lose due to breaks, or is that 12 hours working time? Typically in a 12 hour shift you only get 11 hours working time after 2 breaks and a lunch. What size trucks/hoe/bucket were being used? I'm always interested to see other companies production numbers.
Math fail. 730s hold 16yds, 6700/16=419 loads. Now lets look at cycle times on a 330C/D. Biggest practical bucket is 3yds which would slow cycle times to 21 seconds (which is generous). 6700/3=2233*21=46893sec/60=781.55min/60=13.03 hours going as fast as you can EVERY SINGLE BUCKET never waiting for a truck or cleaning up anything. That's still over 12 hours. If you can load a truck every 112 seconds (with no wait thats 3 in 336 or 5.6min) or faster make a video.
@ozziairlegger Hey son the title doesn't say "loading pavement and dirt" it says "loading pavement" as in just the pavement without any dirt. Look at my other videos, I know how to fill the bucket ;)
Just bring a cool $1.5 million to your local cat dealer, although chances are you'll have to wait a couple months for them to build one at the factory and ship it to you.
Were did you learn to operate all this stuff? Also, are you in an operating engineers union. If so, how did you get in? I really want to get into the big machine's (operating skidsteers and mini excavators for landscaping company) here in Ontario.
Originally I went to school, which didn't help much with actually running the machines (that just takes seat time and a "feel" for it), but helped ALOT with the mental side of things (what you should and shouldn't do, how to prep, how the machines work). Out of school I did 2 years in forestry which taught me alot about fixing things and fine controls. Then I moved here, started on a 330 and then took a old 375 no one else wanted to run. Then I got my 385. Just play on breaks and ask questions!
cost per meter, you may as well park it up as you would be burning more fuel then it's worth?, There no call ME mass Excavation for nothing ace!!!, make the slut work...
whats the point in havin such a big machine and you carnt even fill the bucket and only half fill the dumper, i operate a 210 and i would piss all over that
Why is it a bouncy ride when the unit is just turning/pivetting? Unless he is doing some slighlty jerky hydraulic movement with the arm while turning to get more pavement... Forgive me though, I've never operated a track hoe in my life.

Nope regular cat key. Most job sites are running ~10 cat machines, some sites we've had almost 70 pieces on. Foreman gets to start everything so everything is keyed the same.
Oh that and I'd love to see someone try to steal a 90 ton excavator that needs to be dissasembled to fit on 2 trailers, and then try to hide it somewhere =D
nice to see a hoe hand that knows what their doing. get the big scoops first then when the truck leaves u go after the crumbs. you have no idea how many people have to get everything right now and how much time they loose in the processes.
A couple different reasons but the main one was that there was no access for the trucks to get in front. The road beside/in front was still open to traffic and the only place the trucks could cross was behind me.
Ah but i see u are a exellent excavaterdriver i am from germany. First time i worked with an cat 318 wheel excavator ( Top Maschine )and now i drive an New Holland SK235 ( 25 tonnes). OMG what a fucking low quality excavator, i hate this maschine. You can be happy if i see ur 385c LME :)
a 385 seems an awful waste to be loading small dumpers with 1/2 buckets of pavement.Surely a 320 or 330 would have done it as easily and more effceintly and keep the big machines for the big dig? unless I suppose the machine is not that busy elsewhere
All we had on site was the 740s my 385, a D10N for ripping and a 850J for doing finishing work. We were actually there to do some wet stripping for a subdivision and to haul some liner material down into the pond across the street. The developer paid us by the hour to pull about 200m of exsisting pavement and then salvage the pitrun underneath. The pavement went quick and then I was bulking the pitrun from under (check my other vids for that).
It's nice to see that everytime you swing, you actually look where you're swinging. I work with guys that I swear don't look half the time - and I work in New York City.
I did! There were concrete and gravel trucks going through too. Where I am sitting is the original road so they had to detour around us while we ripped it out.
If you watch again I'm pulling the stick all the way back in to me before I swing around each time so it's not out in the lane.
I work for Kidco Construction they are the largest earth moving company in southern Alberta (Canada). I love my 385. I would rather run large gear than small gear.
I did some math and you can move over 10,000 cubic meters in 10.5 hours working time (so say an 11.5 hour day).
I'd rather run something larger but we have to be able to cut to grade and shape while loading trucks, so it balances out.
For the most part yes. I can and have run other hoes and machines for this company, but only when either my hoe is broken down or we have a rain day etc (I'll hop in the dozer and build berms, rip etc, or blade off roads with the grader etc). I've run scrapers for this company in the winter when we only have a couple sites running.
Since I get pretty high production numbers they don't want to put me on support gear unless there is nothing else to do =p

I'd rather run something larger but we have to be able to cut to grade and shape while loading trucks, so it balances out.

Great job on the vid. and I like the new camera mount! Is the 385 the only machine that you run?

For the most part yes. I can and have run other hoes and machines for this company, but only when either my hoe is broken down or we have a rain day etc (I'll hop in the dozer and build berms, rip etc, or blade off roads with the grader etc). I've run scrapers for this company in the winter when we only have a couple sites running.
Since I get pretty high production numbers they don't want to put me on support gear unless there is nothing else to do =p
