Just to clear things up from random posts, yes it can be a Midi controller..... Meaning it can be set to use ANY midi capable software, so yea it can be used to dj with a program, I.e. Traktor pro. It can also control ableton, etc etc. It can also be used to add live percussion and such to dj performances. With the addition of 1.6, it now doesn't need to be ran in a host, it can now run vsts. All of this is both pc and mac.
I wanted to spend 200€ for my complete setup (cheap studio monitors) Now I invested 920€ (mid studio monitors + maschine) as a student without ANY income for 3 years. You guys got my money xD
Just purchased the Maschine and i'm having trouble sampling and even hearing audio thru my studio monitors. I have my External audio source plugged into my interface, I can hear the external audio thru my monitors, but when I hit start, the maschine shows waiting and the neither the audio equalizers are moving. Did I not setup correctly? Is there any you guys can post a video showing how to hookup Maschine to get the customers on the right path with basic equipment. I read the manual but it
Yawn, Dude, i have played with this thing and you are killing all the excitement and ease of use with your tech-speak. Make a second set of tutorials where you have a translator; lets say a club dj. Who says" what he means is: watch this... bang! check this out ZAP! and when I turn this knob, HuZzAh!
@imaginablemedium - Damn straight eh!! Fuck i have to psych myself up just to put up with this borning shit - just break it down homeboy - we're not all fucken geeks man
@imaginablemedium sure your right if you think in terms of fun or enjoyment, it's just like those kids who go to school and complain that a teacher is boring so they fail or don't do the work. I don't watch things or learn expecting the teacher or subject to be exciting, because I know not everyone has that tone. I get the knowledge and move on, it would be nice if they added enjoyment but they didn't so, oh well. It's not worth mentioning in my opinion, we just gotta deal with it and go.
@imaginablemedium The point of this video is to educate a more technologically-inclined user with the hardware of Maschine, rather than the 'press button, receive sound' that you seem to require. As he says at the end of the video, watch the following episodes to get the For Dummies version. If you aren't set to understand 'tech speak' don't watch videos designed for people who know more than the average 12 year old using a guitar amp. This is an overview, not a demo.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@XavierCalabero fuck you dude you can go to hell, me and my guitar amp will destroy you and your gay little programs and and the labtop your mommy bought you. Maybe if you new something more about music youd realize the music people make with these machines started with "12 year old" way or making music; Kraftwerk. plus people have to start somewhere you didnt know all the tech words the first day you got into producing maybe the kid your hating on doesnt have anyone to teach him
@coughlintm You're absolutely correct, though I'm not sure how you gathered me hating on rookies from hating on slackjaws like you who don't listen to instructions. The presenter clearly states at 2:20 that people seeking such information should watch the next few videos. If you feel you must bitch about this one lacking information clearly covered elsewhere, I'm not going to get into a juvenile Internet pissing match with you. You can make as big an asshat of yourself as you'd like. Peace.
Not even close... maschine is a whole nother animal. APC40 is just a pad ridden midi controller, and Korg Padkontrol is better than that thing any day of the week anyway.
@JoeyRec thats a really really poor and short sighted analysis of any controller. Any controller is what you make of it, the apc40s tight integration with ableton and max4live makes it much more adaptive than maschine.
@sacredgeometry Dude what are you talking about stop trying to argue. Im just saying APC40 is only a controller, like the padkontrol and i think the korg is a better controller.
You can use anything with Ableton live it maps it 2 seconds. Maschine is much more than a controller, and to be honest it works better with Live than the APC40 does! Its got a program that maps the screens, knobs, and pad lights.
Whatever your using, it comes down to creativity. Its not the instrument its the player.
@JoeyRec I agree its down to the creativity, but I also think you are missing a huge point of the apc. either that or you are not aware of what it and ableton can and does do. Maschine isnt anything more than a controller. It, like the apc is a dedicated controller for a bit of software. Maschine software is extremely limited and stripped down compared to ableton (obviously) so unless you feel that being restricted is better, how could it be better?
@sacredgeometry anyone seriously looking to play live with Abelton should be kitted with an APC 40....... and right next to your APC should be a Maschine.

apc40 is for controlling clip mode in ableton. maschine and the apc40 are not competing products.
