I was there all day and saw both performances. There were technical problems all day. The audio guys were good but there were so many performers it was hard to keep everything running smooth. I met Patty Smith, she was not very nice.

Damn, she ruined the song in the beginning. They almost had to stop. This really isn't supposed to happen on an major event like this. So this one can never appear on DVD. :o(

Um, watch video again. Drugs had nothing to do with it. I was there. It was all technical. As soon as Patti walked to the mike, it immediately began to feedback/give her an electrical shock. She tried her best to overcome the tech problem but the song fell apart.

They did a 2nd take on it which was better than the first.

The sound was much clearer where i was sitting. And this take sounded really good even though they re-did it. Either the mic from this recording was bad or the accoustics in this part of MSG where bad. The 2nd take went over just as well with the audience as the first take because it is such a good song.

And i think anyone can agree redoing it live is better than over-dubbing in the studio
