  • Not Many People Know This Song I Think.

  • Go Rowlf!

  • I can't whistle either.

  • i love Winnie-the-Pooh, i love the Muppet Show, esp. Rowlf... WOOOHOOO!

  • During Jim Henson's memorial, Frank Oz sang this beautiful song. :(

  • Rowlf <3

  • This makes my broken heart go away.

  • Lol, I downloaded the Winnie-The-Pooh Book on my phone, and when I saw this song in the book I was all like '' Why does a Chicken, I don't know why ''

  • I like the punk rock version better.

  • One of my favorite songs on the first Muppet Show records.

  • @rdcoddington me too dude

  • I have picked this for my funeral.

  • Why does a chicken? Classic!!

  • Why does a chicken?

  • @surfingthechaos I don't know why.

  • @surfingthechaos I don't know why.

  • The greatest muppet!

  • Happy Birthday Jim Henson!

  • I love how in Google there's an auto search for "cottleston pie recipe" when it doesn't exist, lol.

  • @MissBarghest Actually, there was a cookbook in which it appeared. Apparently it's a type of quiche. My mother loves Pooh and had the cookbook in question.

  • @jo67445 I doubt Disney would ever be smart enough to use something this good.

  • A fish can't man, but a man can fish. :)

  • I have to ask this why didn't Walt Disney use this song if they own the rights to Winnie the pooh?

  • Fozzie, Rowlf and Miss Piggy were my favorites, always loved this song.

  • @Sweetbabyvixen I like Gonzo, Beaker, Rolf and Animal are my favourites.

  • 2 things I don't understand about this song. What's cottleston pie? What does the song mean when it says why does a chicken, I don't know why; why does a chicken what?

  • @Stephen10528 'Cottleston Pie' was a phrase that Pooh made up for answering questions that he didn't understand. 'Why does a chicken' simply meant that he had no idea why a chicken acted like a chicken.

  • I love Rowlf--it's amazing how expressive that one facial expression can be.

  • How do I love youtuberepeat.

  • Love the line a fly can't bird but...

  • Wonderful song and show. There isn't a TV show nowadays that can touch this. Even the newer Muppet shows pale in comparison.

  • How very appropriate that this song was performed at Henson's memorial service.

  • @Angie2343 He always said that Rowlf was the character that was most like him. That was why after his death they actually retired the character for a few years.

  • Rowlfs my favorie :)

  • i allways cry at this song not because of sadnes but its funny

why dose a chicken i dont no why lol it always makes me laugh ah to be young again

  • I know he can't actually show emotions, but he looks so desperate for aproval at the end, it's lovely

  • How fantastic to see this again. I have it on LP, but it's even better to watch it. I love the line a fly can't bird.....

  • I like how Rowlf explains the modulation and the key change in the middle of the song. It's also funny to see how accurate they make his hands when he plays. It's almost like the he's playing the actual recording. It's little attention to details like that that make this show interesting and funny to both adults and children.

  • That's my favorite song by Rowlf. Thanks, and good job Rowlf.

  • A fly can't bird but a bird can fly.

    lol

  • by far my 2nd favourite muppet song. i play this on piano when i need to think.

  • wich is orginally by A.A. Milne :P

  • a beloved poem indeed

  • I love the way he ends it. So charmingly funny, yet so hard to explain why...

  • it's Muppet Zen!

  • funny you should say that Hertywhistler. There is a book, the Zen of Pooh.. and a companion book the Tae of Piglet.. :)

  • Yep, I have both the audiobooks! (actually "Tao of Pooh" and "Te of Piglet" by Benjamin Hoff - the audiobooks are quite good to listen to ;)

  • @AngelusDlion It's the tao of poo and the zen of piglet.

  • Thanks Rowlf. Next time somebody asks me a riddle, I know what I will say. ;o)

  • That song reminds me of when me and my mate were looking through the wrecks of an old house, and we found this book. It was Winnie-the- pooh, we weren't big on books but we actually read it all the way through, and on our way, we picked up on the cottleston pie song, it slightly makes me sad because it brings back so many happy memories with a friend that left us years ago...

The song definatly picks up on the characteristics of Pooh, especially the line with the fish, showing his low standard

  • @screaminggingin83 *sniff, sniff* That's a beautiful story man.

  • @screaminggingin83 I'd Google Maps the house too, down my street :)

  • Yes, a wonderful song. : )

  • I love that comment, but I don't like the way it's written about this video

  • This is so cute. I heard them singing this song at Jim's memorial service and didn't recognize it, so I'm glad I have the story behind it now.

  • thanks for posting this... i love this song

  • This is great, thanks for posting.

  • I love this song!

"Ask me a riddle and I reply..."
