  • they both know how to control the other's wings so the punches don't get flyin'.

  • Draw.

  • Good players who were underrated fighters:

    *Clark Gilles

    *Brendan Shanahan

    *Wendel Clarke

    *Keith Primeau

  • nice helmet faggot

  • @MrNclaw nice understanding of the NHL rules about helmets becoming mandatory for new players back in the 80's.

  • Why the fuck to the refs jump in on guys like McSorley. Langdon and Probert when they are still punching?

  • Gillies is a top ten-er,..and mcSorely could go with the best of em at times too,..seen em both have alot better fights than this one.

  • Gillies had this ridiculous reputation as someone who only fought when provoked, that he was basically a clean player. Apparently he was provoked a lot because he seems to have had a lot of fights.

  • ok i was wrong fuck you for calling me an idiot bosox fag fuck you and sox nation

  • Hockey fights are usually a waste of time. The players dance around the ice like boxers in a ring for a while, finally they come together and swing and miss several times. The refs ultimately intercede and they're escorted to the penalty box to the applause of the home fans, who seem to be oblivious to the fact that nothing just happened.

  • @bailinnumberguy Then you haven't seen any really good fights. Try looking for Probert vs McSorley and tell me that wasn't a great fight.

  • @bailinnumberguy nah, i dont think with that way at all, dropping the gloves means a lot more than missing a punch and down they goes. It means you are a hero, when you payback to your opponent by dropping the gloves.

I dont care if a fight sucks or not i dont care.

Gillies landed more here but McSorley had his own moment for sure in this good scrap.

DRAW in my eyes, but i can understand edge Gillies too.

  • thats not Marty McSorley in this clip, he didnt play for the Pens until late 90s Gillies was retired by then

  • @slydogg616 McSorley was originally drafted by Pittsburgh you fucking idiot! Edmonton traded for him to protect Gretzky in September of 1985, after Gretzky was in the NHL for 6 years already!

  • Beat your wife Potvin, beat your wife!!!

  • @diapermanful You're truly a loser.

  • @yryriza Beat your spouse, yryriza, beat your spouse!!!

  • This was before mcsorely started using an oversized jersey he wouldnt tie down and could easily escape from. I can't knock him for that though, everyone was using somewhat questionable tactics around this time before htey made the tie down rule.

  • Bossy, Trottier, and Nystrom send Gillies an XMAS every year.

  • Marty would become a much better fighter as time went by. Gillies clearly won this fight. Odd though that Gillies was past his prime as a fighter and McSorley did not hit his prime at this point. Not a bad scrap.

  • @radioactivekaraoke Gillies clearly won this? I saw Gillies getting tired and McSorley still punching. This is the thing about hockey fights. The refs come in at a point where one guy is taking over and people say: "Oh the first guy won". The refs should always stay out until they get completely tired (or someone falls). Guys like Mick Vukota made a career out of landing a few quick ones and dumping the guy. Let them go til they puke and you'll see who the real fighters are.

  • Gilles thought he would pick on the rookie and instead found himself hanging on, begging the refs to come in

  • @flowerdrop1 Another loser that needs to get her eyes exammined Nancy.

  • After that, stupid Pittsburgh traded MsCorley to Edmonton, for ummmm Willie Lindstrom? Or was that the McClelland deal? Great trade for the Oil

  • You could see Gillie's change his attitude as the fight wore on... McSorley was a gamer and hung with Jethro, the very best.

  • gotta love the porn mustache lol

  • @ripsnorter419 Even better is the hair, and after the fight, not a hair out of place.

  • Haa SOLID DRAW!! Hands down guy.

  • @MrJuha82 solid draw????? my god Gillies absolutely schooled McSorely here; great insight as to why McSorley went to steroids because he got pumped and didn't land a thing. Throwing is a lot different than connecting bud -- McSorley got hit with 20 quality punches, I give him credit for remaining on his feet. He doesn't really land anything here

  • @justice008a 20 quality punches?! That's an exaggeration to say the least lol.

  • @buttkick22 Don't bother with justice. He sees things how he wants to see them. If he watched fights in slo mo he'd see that 90% of the punches he thinks landed, didn't. He pretends to know that McSorley took steroids because of this fight? LOL. McSorley MAY have taken roids but he certainly didn't NEED them. All he needed was for the refs to stay out of the fight until his amazing cardio took over and he began pounding his opponent like he did with Daryl Stanley. Gillies was done.

  • @MrJuha82 draw yr pants and wipe yr boyfriends mouth...p.s. How we all take for granted the helmet entitlement of the tough guys. They should take them off before fights.

  • I remember this fight, Gillies was laughing at him.

  • Jethro (Gillies) was one of the best all time fighters, yet was not dirty and was a hell of a hockey player. A goon he was not!

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN Exactly! Stuck up for his team. In the Hall Of Fame..... that says it all!

  • Funny, How Marty the elephant would not dare take off his helmet to even things out.

  • Gilles was tough for his era. But when the new breed enforcer arrived including McSorley, Probert and Kocur, Gilles was a dinosaur

  • McSorley would have killed him if it wasnt for the fuckin refs. He's a late fighter with lots of staminia!

  • @Bellicose27 oh please, mc sorley's a pussy...his true coward character came through eventually and he was kicked out of the league...good riddance

  • @liggettselect Gillies was gasping for air! Yeah, ok BEAT YOUR WIFE POTVIN, does that include Gillies? HA HA Remember that chat in MSG?

  • @Bellicose27 Yeah! Wasn't that, like, years 37 through 46 of the Rangers' Stanley Cup drought?

  • @roaringchicken92 No, it was 48 to 50 during the drought.

June 1994 the drought ended and beat your wife Potvin became louder and louder!

  • @roaringchicken92 No, more like 47 to 49. Then in 1994 the rangers yelled beat your wife Potvin!

  • Solid, nice battle here!! (:

What longer it last as it better it worked for McSorley.

    Gillies early, McSorley late=DRAW!

  • I'd say he was Hall of Fame worthy. Sure he had just under 700 points but he did a lot more then just that. How much better were Trottier and Bossy because of him and vice a versa. So I'd say yes.

  • Gillies was teaching him how to fight there. watch him talk him through it. he was doing him a favor by droppin the gloves.

  • For winning 4 CUPS!!!

  • Then I suppose the whole team goes in, right? Same with the Oilers in the 80's?

You'll need two HOF's. One for great players and one for players on great teams.

  • Gillies: Everyones wish for a tough guy/winger. He hits hard. Scored 32 goals in one of his better seasons.

Big mac at thistime maybe about 210-15, just a kid

  • People get upset over words on a screen

  • McSorley was lucky he had a helmet on.

  • McSorley:Gillies a fair tilt. Anybody's fight. Dep' who gets the initial edge

  • I did not say it was not a fair fight. McSorley could have gone with the best of them. However, against Gillies I did say McSorley was lucky to have the helmet on. No fun busting your knucles on a helmet; Gillies should have worn one earlier in his career when most fighters had helmets. It is easy to pucnh a guy in the back of the head when he does not have a helmet; not so when he does have a helmet.

  • Who cares?

  • You took the time to reply to me so you must care. From your posts you must be some McSorley groupie LOL...

  • @tedfio1tedfio1 Gillies dropped the gloves first. The fact he didn't have a helmet is HIS problem.

  • holy cow thats sick

  • Pretty nothing fight from 2 top fighters.

  • You hit the nail on the head. Both guys look like they were discussing drapes or something. McSorley got in some pussy taps in, Gillies no real big punch.

Very Disappointed in this "fight" - I expected better from these two legends.

  • You're just an Isles Fan. Very shortly after that, Edmonton got McSorley in a trade. (I think for Willy Lindstrom) Marty went on to become one of the most under rated D men in the NHL. all because he was forever seen as a goon

  • Now I am Isles fan from way back (before they ever won a cup) but I always wonder why people ask this question. Fights usually start out of nowhere and are in the heat of battle. If a player went to take his own helmet off the other guy would use that distraction and pummel the guy while he was trying to take it off.

  • Marty is a coward would not take off helmet. He lost that one straight out!

  • gillies whuped dat ass... 4 cups

  • Mcsorley also has 4 cups with Edm. Idiot

  • No, only 2 cups, McSorley was with Edmonton only in the 1987 and 1988 stanley cup wins.

  • I stand corrected. he is under rated though. I have heard them who played against him also say this. have a good summer.

  • prolly shouldn't end a comment with the word "idiot" when u are the one that's wrong....or at anytime for that matter......it's not very christian

  • Idiot? Hey, I canot ever remember talking to you. Assuming you are the alleged idiot. This thing is over 4 months old since I last posted.

You like museums too, I bet

  • actually, u were corrected a month ago on ur statement about mcsorely winning 4 cups...once again u are wrong...aren't u the guy who said u witnessed larry playfair cross check richie sutter in the face when in fact that never happened, it was a punch that broke his jaw...yea so obviously i'll never correct ur mistakes again since on top of having little knowledge about hockey, u also throw around childish insults and make up events u "witnessed with ur own eyes"...say what u want i'm done wit u

  • Anyhow. sorry If I hurt your feelings. Give it a year or two. You will get over it.

HEY! Anyone have a crying towel for this 'idiot?'

  • wow ! mcsorley started out fighting the likes of gillies, and ended with brashear.a ouple rings too.

  • Edge McSorley

  • Good job Marty? What are ya friggin blind?

  • LOL.

  • Good Job Marty!!!
