It is the only city (along with Moscow) where people can receive dollar salaries if they ask to, and salaries can be 5 times higher than Moscow's ones for correspondent jobs. You also have to know that Norilchan people spend about 30$ per month to pay light, gas, water bills all together. Heating is almost free.

Давно я так не смеялся! В конце малой очень упорный. Полежал, отдохнул и снова в бой. Но в итоге все-равно сдуло нахрен)

Сам жил в Норильске пару лет. Это привычное явление, так что не вонуйтесь, все с этими людьми в порядке. Там одеваются как надо. Да и воздух очень сухой - холод не так ощущается, как на материке.

Я знаю что такое ураганный ветер, родилась в Новороссийске. У нас зимой Бора дует. Самое верное идти вдоль дома.. а еще лучше не ходить в такую погоду без острой надобности. :)

А вообще просто загадка как люди живут в Норильске. Это же не жизнь а борьба за жизнь постоянная.. Просто герои! :)

@gus196666 as far as I google average life expectation in Russia is 68, (bigger for women, but unfortunatelly lower for men)-it is bad, but it is the same for Ukraine-with warm climate- it shows that climate has nothing to do with it as in Norway and Sweden and Finland (also cold longevity is the world best)-but I still don't believe that you really feel sory-I think you enjoy feeling better about yourselve by trying to find others in worse conditions-wrong place here-as Alaska would be wrong

@gus196666 I responded about your link - majority of those who livein Norilsk retire in other regions of Russia-so life expectancy just could not be estimated for Norilsk(exeption if to count local aboriginal ethnicities of Dolgani and Nenets where it is possible to make estimation-then it is possible then, but in your neighbouring Amazonia Indians has the same longevity - so hardly you prove anything. I've never being to Siberia-but my relastives worked in Norilsk now retired in Smolensk

Worker there earn enough to buy decent place or a house in some little Russian town in the South, those who are old and can't are relocated by law 125-ФЗ - free of charge - nobody is forced to live there ...

@TuckmanJiggityJones if you want to visit REAL shithole - go to any NorthAmerican place situated at the same latitude as Norilsk in the North - it would be Barrow (North Coast of Alaska) for example - the place has around 5 000 population and is real shithole if compared to Norilsk with its 200 000 (USA can not provide facilities and amenities for such a big place as Norilsk in its extreem North)- and as American you don't need visa to go there-so enjoy your trip-(or see it on youtube)

Норильск хороший город,только зимой холодновато!!Зато у нас на горнолыжнике подъёмник дешевый))...каждые выходные ездили катались на сноубордах))

I lived for two years in Winnipeg before returning to Montréal. In 'Winterpeg' the mercury sometimes dips to -60 (I kid you not!) Whenever I would mention this to born-and-bred Winneggers, they would reply, "Oh, but it's a dry cold!"

I'm sorry, but -60 is -60 and cold is cold!

That said, I love winter, and I can't imagine going through one of those grey western European winters for the rest of my life.
