  • One of my favourite Furey songs. I saw them perform last saturday and it was fantastic. It was the second time I saw them live. I like the band and especcially George Furey who always takes the time to have a chat with fans. Years ago ny wife was very ill, a few months before she died we went to Ireland (Dublin and the wicklow mountains) for a week, in that period we often listened to the songs of The Fureys, that;s why this music is so important for me personally.

  • Strikes me as Burns seducing yet another. They said you could not toss a stone across a ditch without hitting one of his bastards :-)

  • some of the words are anglicised whilst others aren't and it actually changes it from a song which rhymes to one which doesn't in places. Fair enough if it is not in your tradition then that maybe won't matter but I found it more than a bit annoying. I've seen posts from other Scots who enjoy the vocal though so it is only my opinion.

  • @gaconnochie Of course, everyone has their own opinions. What matters is the boys on stage love giving it a lash and a lot of people enjoy them singing it.

  • @IrishandFolkmusic Aye you're not wrong there :-)

  • Powerful , touching performance, brought tears to my eyes !

  • they stuck to there own music for nearly 40 years and never took the rebel road! big props lads come back to OZ!

  • Nope, can't get into this version. It just isn't believable.

Like the group though I will be looking their work up.

  • @maireadfay I'm the same. Musically it is good but vocally it is awful. Not the singing as such more the pronounciation.

  • @gaconnochie To be fair now, this is a Highland song from Scotland where as Eddie is a Dubliner, who is getting older, I for one thinks it's a great rendition!

  • @IrishandFolkmusic I'm not so sure it is a Highland song as much as being about a Highlander. the words are in the Lowland Scots tradition by Burns but it is based on an older Scots ballad. But that is by the by. fair enough everyone has opinions that is what music is about. The music as I said is great but to me, as a Scots speaking Scot, the vocal is as maireadfay says just not believable. Not just the pronounciation which is weird but as you say he isn't a Scot so that is fair enough - but

  • The Fureys & Davey Arthur are supreme entertainers & musicianists. They have sustained this for almost 40years which is a superb achievement! Keep it going! and come back to Scotland soon.

  • The fureys are the best Irish band on this planet! Went to see them in Birmingham and met them all after the show. What great guys!!
