Not really, you do it to all birds to stop them flying away. I had to do it to some of my chickens -they'll malt again though and grow them back. I do it because if they get over the fence, then there is a lovely jack russel waiting for them on the other side. I'm sure he'd think wing clipping is horrible too, as it decreases the chance of a snack.
Yup. Got some chicks that are just finishing growing their first set of proper wings. I won't clip them for a few months though, they're too small to fly anywhere yet. Everyone's all 'chickens cant't fly' but they can get over fences with their wings very easily.
Aw, what a cutie pie! I have had my four parrots for quite a while -- over a decade. None is a blue and gold, but it was a great blue and gold who turned me on to parrots in the first place.

I think that some of it's feather has been cut from it's wing, so it can't fly for a while. (feather's will grow back)

First of all, it's not painful, it's a feather, akin to getting a human getting a haircut.
Secondly, if the bird has always been clipped, it will never even attempt to fly, so it won't just jump off high places.
