Now, the suspect exited his vehicle (which I never would have allowed) but he was carrying something in his hands (which is this persons 1st mistake). After denying it and failure to comply with he officers requests (which are done for his safety) the officer did just what he was trained to do. From what I've seen usually any overweight person has difficulty breathing after physical activity, much less resisting an officer. Second, to the comment below me, if you researched your facts, you would know he did have a broken bone, but it didn't contribute to his death, per the coroner. As a Customs officer I can tell you it doesn't matter if he swallows the bag. They can put him in a watch room and wait for him to pass it. This is also used in the correctional facilities. It was unnecessary and put the officer in a position to be sued and fired. Unfortunate and excessive for sure.

I am a 22 year old Livingston Parish resident. I recently moved to Livingston from Covington, and I have to say that I have NEVER had a problem with the police in Livingston. Why? Typical Livingston Parish. I live around this area and the police here are known to be bullys! This man had a problem yes, and he was probably on so many drugs he didnt even know what was going on. But did he deserve to die? I think not. I believe his life should have been put first. Why not just hit him with a taser? Or tear gas perhaps? Many things could have been done. Any of which would have had a better outcome.

i think its important to note to all those misunderstanding the "broken neck" -- the hyoid bone is the bone surrounding ur trachea not the spine. the breaking of the hyoid bone is indicative of pressure to the front of the throat but will not be the cause of death. the bones are very fragile and u can break them by squeezing with ur thumb, index, and middle finger. the cause of death on people with hyoid fractures is usually strangulation, not caused by the fracture but by the pressure.

Now, the suspect exited his vehicle (which I never would have allowed) but he was carrying something in his hands (which is this persons 1st mistake). After denying it and failure to comply with he officers requests (which are done for his safety) the officer did just what he was trained to do. Talk about a dirty cop...This cop was a loose cannon and you can tell he took things too far...in the videos it doesn't even look like the guy is resisting other than at first where he swallows something and he is trying to free his hand. Actually no, the cop is trying to save the mans life. U r viewing this with the assumption that the cop is bad. But do not assume that the suspect is innocent. He is high and resisting. Also the man puts the drugs in his mouth. Police r trained to place their arms around the persons neck to make him/her spit out the substance. This is bc when digested the suspect can die from overdosing on whatever drug they consumed. The officer was trying to save the mans life. It was unfortunate that he died

Very typical of Louisiana, especially Livingston Parish law enforcement. This puts a new meaning to the term "strong arm of the law". He strangled the guy to the extend he breaks his next, beat him in the back repeatedly and it doesn't look as if the guy was even resisting other than at first when he swallows something. Hell, it could have been a little weed for all we know and your kids, family etc. could be Louisiana's police next victim. Only in Louisiana.

The suspect resisted when he was asked to show what was in his hand and he refused to do so. The suspect had Chrystal Meth in his hand which he had been arrested for 5 days prior to this day, on a narcotics search warrant! If the douche bag takes his lick with the Meth, he is still alive! The fact being, HE knew HE was wrong and HE made a decision that night, not the Deputy, that cost him his life.!!! Why don't you hold the suspect accountable for his actions instead of glorifying him? Typical..

This was very disturbing to watch. The officer strikes the suspect several times in the head and throat and i never saw the suspect as much as attempt to strike the officer. I happen to be from this area and can tell you this sort of action is not surprising from LPSD. Backwoods justice at its finest. For more disturbing viewing search Jason Ard to see the "investigator" make light of the incident and even commend this violent officers actions!

U need to realize what the officer was doing. The officer was trying to get the man to spit out the drugs that he was trying to swallow. If the man swallowed the drugs then there is a great chance that he would overdose. That is why the cop was hitting the man. It was unfortunate that the man died but then again he wasn't innocent and the cop was justified in his actions. Plus, fighting a man high on meth is like fighting super man. They dont feel pain so the officers life was in danger.

The officer tried to handcuff the man dumbass. but the man then tried to swallow drugs. So the officer had to get the drugs out of his mouth. The man would also not place his hands behind his back. From what I've seen usually any overweight person has difficulty breathing after physical activity, much less resisting an officer. Second, to the comment below me, if you researched your facts, you would know he did have a broken bone, but it didn't contribute to his death, per the coroner. You're not from my parish, and you don't how how well known this man is for not only drugs, but resisting an officer. The deputy did what he could after to resuscitate him. Doesn't sound like murder to me.

And the officer did try to cuff the suspect but could not get control of him. Bottom line is that the man resisted and got what was coming to him. Also the facts are that the cop did not get in trouble after the investigation bc he did everything correctly. Its a shame that the suspect died but then again it is his OWN fault NOT the officers

Well u r entitled to ur opinion however, u can not say that the cop killed the man bc he didnt. And that was proven by the autopsy report. However, what u consider excessive force is completely different if u were in the situation urself. Wrestling a person high on meth is not easy. As a Customs officer I can tell you it doesn't matter if he swallows the bag. They can put him in a watch room and wait for him to pass it. This is also used in the correctional facilities. It was unnecessary and put the officer in a position to be sued and fired. Unfortunate and excessive for sure.

I am a 22 year old Livingston Parish resident. I recently moved to Livingston from Covington, and I have to say that I have NEVER had a problem with the police in Livingston. Why? Because I am a law abiding citizen. I couldn't be happier that the police finally got rid of one of the people who enjoy ruining our great country with drugs. I can't feel sorry for someone who CHOOSES to be in possession of something so disgusting and horrible. I'd like to thank the local police for doing their job.

Ok granted he shld not have died, but that said & done, ask yourselves this first, had the cop not pulled him over and taken the drugs from him, he could have been in or caused a seriuos accident in which, lets say for argument sake, your mom, father, brother, sister is killed becuase of him on drugs, Then you would want the justice system to pass down the death penalty? Typical Livingston Parish. I live around this area and the police here are known to be bullys! This man had a problem yes, and he was probably on so many drugs he didnt even know what was going on. But did he deserve to die? I think not. I believe his life should have been put first. Why not just hit him with a taser? Or tear gas perhaps? Many things could have been done. Any of which would have had a better outcome.
