That's just my opinion of this song.
I think this movie was about how much a person can ride buffalos this time after 9/11. Once Bjork was just in my heart I found this song to be amazing and now I'm confident in her career.
She's talking about a society that represents all fundamentalist societies today such as areas in the middle east dominated by Shariah law that have a heavy connection to god that annoys her by taking too much of her time, and have a ridiculous list of rights and wrongs such as wearing odd clothes or not eating certain foods, and she would rather become lost in an unknown land than stay there.

@isanorhadi I'm not sure she's an atheist. In the technical sense, yes she is, but she believes in nature, she believes in a natural order I suppose. So the God would represent this mother nature character.

@isanorhadi I'm not sure she's an atheist. In the technical sense, yes she is, but she believes in nature, she believes in a natural order I suppose. So the God would represent this mother nature character.

Great interpretation. About the thing from her backpack: I'm polish and we even say "bagaż doświadczeń" which google translated as "wealth of experience", but it actually means "luggage of experience" so it fits perfectly :)

@robinheil It's not God. She mentions how “I am leaving this harbor [...] its inhabitants seem too keen on God”—and, later on, “sailing into nature's laws / and be held by ocean's paws”.
It is a god, it seems, or some sort of spirit, but a water god. Not God from any monotheistic religion.

@robinheil I know, but capitalised like that it instantly sounds like the Christian one, especially when you say things like “divinne intervention” which are stock Christian terms—plus, with the Mongol aesthetics in this video it becomes obvious it's a water god of some sort, so it seemed weird that you said “God”. Just saying.

from what i've heard hindu's have gods but dont think they exist they use them as teaching tools and for fables

@JovianSatelite Yeah, I'm a bit confused with the hands at the end as well. I took it the tunnel is her life, which she go through holding her subconscious-shadowself, and at the end of the tunnel (= end of her life? of her travel urges?), well, she find the welcoming hands of yet again the goddish creature (= she thought she was travelling away on a straight line but she just came back to where she was from...). Or something deeper. Or nothing at all. Who knows?
