One of the big issues critics is how women play the role of Christine. Most concentrate more on the song, and play Christine passively. From what I have read and clips I have seen the 2 best are Sierra and Gina. I give the edge to Sierra due to her stunning preformance in the 25th. If you have a great voice and dynamic personality, you can be a good phantom. But it's Christine that is the more difficult role. There is a reason Sierra was chosen for the 25th over all the other women.
@oscarreygo How Gerard Butler is better? I mean, not only is his voice not suitable for the Phantom at all (in my opinion, anyway) he's also horribly untrained. To be honest, he's much like Ramin - untrained and completely off pitch. Ramin at least has a potential, Gerard needs a lot of work. His acting was okay minus, nothing special there, and the whole "I'm a sexy Phantom so I'll pout" approach doesn't work. At all.
Go see the doctor and let you ears get checked out: Butler was cast for his looks, NOT for his voice! The guy simply cant sing! Every high or long note is digitale tuned or enhanced.
John does this at least 7 times a week LIVE and without any digital tricks, instead of once in a studio with a tiny army of technicians to improve it.
Still... the original version by Michael Crawford remains the most warm, haunted and chilling at the same time!

I personally find her over acting every single line. I know she is on stage, and needs to be seen a long way away, but every second seems to be a new facial expression. I'm not a fan, I also prefer subtle and naturalistic movements using the body, and not just different shapes of the mouth.
MOTN is a really difficult song for a Christine to act in, as I can see it would be hard to act seduced for a 5 minute song. But yea, in my opinion, this is some of the worst acting I've seen on stage.

Amazing Voice! John was my fave, but nowI personally prefer Ramin, after watching the 25th anniversary! I adore his passion! plus, Ramin brings so many little details to the role, like his reaction to Christine fainting... his little smiles in music of the night, his sigh as she puts her head on his arm, his reprise...and so much more! Its never mechanical, there is always so much feeling there! Ramin deserved to be cast as Phantom for the 25th anniversary! He was outstanding!
Gina and John should have been Phantom and Christine. They make the best pairing, acting AND singing together. They ARE the Phantom and Christine Daae. Why they bother to even make the Anniversary Concert on a night in which Gina was busy blows my mind. They could change the date and I couldn't give a damn as long as Gina is in it. It could have been in December, and it would have still be much better than the one they have now.
JOJ Is fabulous but Ramin is my personal favourite due to the passion in his acting and voice.. He just has something for me. But no denying the sheer brilliance of JOJ's voice. Gina is definitely my favourite Christine, her voice, innocence, beauty and acting is superb. Secondly, it has to be Sierra.. the only thing that annoys me about her is her tendency to pronounce words strangely.

I totally agree! I saw a screening of the 25th anniversary performance at my local movie theater and while I enjoyed it and thought Ramin was ok, I was very disappointed that JOJ was not the Phantom because that would have elevated my experience from pretty good to AWESOME. Seriously, JOJ makes me Phangasm. His voice is superb and hauntingly beautiful and dammit why wasn't he cast? Him singing after the performance was one of the highlights of the 25th anniversary for me.
I just saw the 25th broadcast live, and Ramin, bless his heart, was as dedicated as ever, but he didn't come close to JOJ's performance. The former pushed too hard and the latter was effortless.

@ZodiacBryan Ramin was standby Phantom for a year, then played him for another two years, plus he played the Phantom in the sequel. He may not have played the role as long as JOJ, but he was certainly not new to the role.

One of the many things I love about JOJ's MOTN is how he stays near Christine during the "Close your eyes" verse instead of going over to the organ. It's so much more personal and - oh la la - sensual :)
You can totally tell that she's wearing a wig!!!!!! The curls at the front of her head are to poofy and not natural looking! Also, the curls look too much like the cylindrical ones Carlotta wears.
Definitely one of the best MOTN clips I've seen on youtube, JOJ brilliant as always and Gina Beck is probably the first Christine I've seen do more than just stand there and look drugged.....but I still can't help LOL at 0:41 when he checks her out and at the.....erm....."climax" at 3:07
Best Christine I have EVER seen, ever ever ever. I actually looked at her more than I looked at the Phantom! She is astonishing and really believable as an incredible young woman who the Phantom has fallen in love with. If they were going to do a 25th anniversary dreamcast performance like they did for Les Miz, I would choose these two as the principals, hands down.
I am glad that london keeps those small things that arent in broadway, and others, like for instance erik picking up christine when she faints... and thhe trio in the graveyard....

This woman's acting is, in my opinion, far and away superior to any Christine I've seen and I've seen a bunch--the West End, Broadway, Sydney.
Pay attention to the subtleties of her expressions. She never is passive and responds to every phrase with a different expression.
The friggin' wig? She could be bald and put this season over. If anyone nedds a sitdown with the wigmaster it's the phantom. That looks like it's painted on.

Sorry... but can I just rant about how Terrible this wig is! I DONT GET IT! Usually the West End Christine wigs are soo beautiful! this is one of the worst wigs I have ever seen for a professional show, especially Phantom! it dosnt fit her head properly! The style is ALLLLL wrong! It is too short!!! and The curls are the wrong shape and size!!! What were they thinking! putting her on stage with a wig like that on! Why couldnt she just have borrowed one of the Chorus wigs? Or Understudy!?

It makes her forehead look huge and her features all so small and pointy. Or Rachel Barrell's wig. That one looked like it hadn't been washed for some time. Shorter hair for Christine is one of the nicer hairdos - fun and cute; I think it fits her far better than a long and tired hairstyle. Long hair is for Meg, shorter for Christine.
@LordMcManus During Chirstmas Week, 2010, Sofia Escobar and Tabitha Webb were both indisposed, and Katy Treharne was also not feeling her best, so to avoid ANOTHER Christine falling, ill, Gina was asked to come back for a few days.
@LordMcManus I tottally agree. The chemistry JOJ and Gina Beck have is amazing. But Sofia Escobar does the role justice - she's quite a cute Christine, and Tabitha Webb as her alternate is also cute.
@SamSkii14 This was a last minute thing, which means they probably didn't have enough time to get the right wig to fit her properly! She had only be informed that she was doing the show 5 hours before, because Sofia Escobar and her understudy were ill... so thats probably why! I quite like the wig, think she looks beautiful, not to flat or over the top. :D

Its in october this year. Not alot of details have been released but Ramin auctioned 2 tickets for it and the chance to meet him there. He did it through twitter and the auction was on Ebay. All the Money raised went to Comic Relief.

Nothing has been announced as of yet from RUG But we do know its going to happen since Ramin auctioned off the tickets. @Belliole It's definitely from December 2010. JOJ didn't return to the role until November, and Gina had left in September. She returned Christmas week 2010 and for another brief stint in January (but JOJ was out that weekend).

Agreed that JOJ especially since he's not only arguably the best, but the current Phantom in London, and also, got the loudest pop from the audience.
Even getting Hugh to do it would have been awesome.

By the way, I love the way he touches his lips at .42, as he's walking over to Christine. It is so predatory and sensual. I've never seen JOJ do that before. Maybe that's a new addition from when he assumed the role again. I am used to seeing his performances with Rachel Barrell and Celia Graham. I'm kinda surprised Mr. Jones!

One of the many things I love about JOJ's MOTN is how he stays near Christine during the "Close your eyes" verse instead of going over to the organ. It's so much more personal and - oh la la - sensual :)

Best Christine I have EVER seen, ever ever ever. I actually looked at her more than I looked at the Phantom! She is astonishing and really believable as an incredible young woman who the Phantom has fallen in love with. If they were going to do a 25th anniversary dreamcast performance like they did for Les Miz, I would choose these two as the principals, hands down.

This woman's acting is, in my opinion, far and away superior to any Christine I've seen and I've seen a bunch--the West End, Broadway, Sydney.
Pay attention to the subtleties of her expressions. She never is passive and responds to every phrase with a different expression.
The friggin' wig? She could be bald and put this season over. If anyone nedds a sitdown with the wigmaster it's the phantom. That looks like it's painted on.

Sorry... but can I just rant about how Terrible this wig is! I DONT GET IT! Usually the West End Christine wigs are soo beautiful! this is one of the worst wigs I have ever seen for a professional show, especially Phantom! it dosnt fit her head properly! The style is ALLLLL wrong! It is too short!!! and The curls are the wrong shape and size!!! What were they thinking! putting her on stage with a wig like that on! Why couldnt she just have borrowed one of the Chorus wigs? Or Understudy!?

@SamSkii14 Really? I rather like the wig! I find the West Ennd Christine wigs to be too flat. Take Sofia Escobar, for example. It makes her forehead look huge and her features all so small and pointy. Or Rachel Barrell's wig. That one looked like it hadn't been washed for some time. Shorter hair for Christine is one of the nicer hairdos - fun and cute; I think it fits her far better than a long and tired hairstyle. Long hair is for Meg, shorter for Christine.

@SamSkii14 This was a last minute thing, which means they probably didn't have enough time to get the right wig to fit her properly! She had only be informed that she was doing the show 5 hours before, because Sofia Escobar and her understudy were ill... so thats probably why! I quite like the wig, think she looks beautiful, not to flat or over the top. :D

Its in october this year. Not alot of details have been released but Ramin auctioned 2 tickets for it and the chance to meet him there. He did it through twitter and the auction was on Ebay. All the Money raised went to Comic Relief.

@jenpenphan No details have been released Except by Ramin himself. All he said is that he will be playing the phantom for it! Nothing has been announced as of yet from RUG But we do know its going to happen since Ramin auctioned off the tickets. No doubt it will be somewhere like the O2 and it will be filmed for DVD ( Fingers crossed it will be filmed)

@Belliole It's definitely from December 2010. JOJ didn't return to the role until November, and Gina had left in September. She returned Christmas week 2010 and for another brief stint in January (but JOJ was out that weekend).
