This is a very good idea in the right circumstances. Imagine you were traveling by boat or something, and wanted to keep your skills fresh, but you couldn't carry a large supply of welding rods with you? Also, you could practice for hours upon hours per day. The skills of keeping your hands steady and working at a constant pace would carry over into real welding.
WOW! Virtual Welding?? That's a neat toy, but it doesn't look like it has any practical use. Call me old fashioned, but in my opinion, real welders only learn through doing real welding. Man is there anything that hasn't been affected by the digital age?
We had to use something like that in my welding class, it's nothing like the real thing. You couldn't see where your stick actually was or how far away you actually were from your material. You had to wear this modified welding mask with goggles inside it that displayed this simulated shop with a simulated butt joint or what have you...
that looks like it would be accually harder to do than the accual thing it must be so hard to go from real to that or that to real i guess its good for people that like to pretend to do shit i just cant see how that can even help you get better junnkkkkk
Im going to school for welding now and i just dont see how you can learn arc welding the right way from this it does not seem like you can gain any real skill from it
I don't get it. You take something that was invented in the 1800s, is cheap to use and practice with, and then decide that an expensive computer program would be better to learn with than the real thing? Sometimes technology is not the answer.

Looks pretty lame

Agreed... plus a real weld pool isn't as stable looking and predictable as a machine could ever simulate...
