i play tenor saxophone and i gotta say this is my first time hearing hime but this is amazing his musical phrases are interesting and i am also a jazz musician but i really enjoy his musical sound and he has a rich round tone
In my humble (yet informed) opinion, none of today's so-called young lions can hold a candle to Don Byas and his contemporaries. None can match his tone, power, sense of swing, and creativity.
@carlovitch Well, it's only sad if you want it to be. It's already been done, so let's find some new ways to play. I love how these guys played, but we can't stay unchanged. I also love how Ben Wendel, Chris Potter, Seamus Blake, and Troy Roberts play, and they don't play like this at all. However, James Carter plays like this, so, give him a listen if you want.
Rare movie with a great Don Byas in great shape. Very nice.

Here Comes The Don !
Was hij in de VS gebleven, dan had iedere jazzliefhebber hem in zijn platenkast gehad (Blue Note ?)
Can anyone put more films with Don Carlos on You Tube ?

Claude Gousset reminds me a bit of Trummy Young.

Beautiful playing, especially from Don Byas, one of the greatest tenor saxophonists in musical history.
