She appears as an overly made up woman to me but that's about all. It's all well and good that she has been "trained up" to know how to sing, but Mr. Martin was a pure natural!! There is no comparison!

Dude, she got the lyrics wrong. "Like the lazy ocean hugs the SHORE", first off, and she missed the verse "Like a flower bending in the breeze/Bend with me/sway with easy" etc." SHe may ahave a gorgeous voice, but I still prefer the Dean Martin version.

Well, i agree that she should have won but the problem with American Idol is that people like Melinda peak in the show waaaay too early. Look at the past seasons, people who were frontrunners in the early part of the season did not end up winning the show at the end.

As much as I like Melinda, I don't think she ever had a chance of wininning Idol. She was, technically, the best singer that season, but she has an old-school, throwback sound that simply won't sell records in today's market. So you can see why Jordin Sparks won, she has a very good contemporary, pop vocal sound. I doubt if looks or even age had much to do with it.
