sink down slightly and move out to the side. put your leg and hip behind the attackers nearest leg and scoop him up,with one arm coming around the waist and the other arm around the backs of his knees
You give very good instructions on your throws. I've been studying these throws for quite some time and haven't seen them taught as well as you do. Very good vids and great understanding of mechanics. If i'm ever in Australia, I'll have to look you up.
bjj is a form of judo that primarily focuses on Ne-waza ( Ground-techniques). Tournament bjj starts on your feet and awards points for takedowns. Gracie Jiu Jitsu teaches, as part of its syllabus , throws as well as referring to them by there Japanese names ( Classifications )
@RhadeConstantine many including myself consider BJJ to be a substyle of Judo, since you're allowed to use all of the Judo throws in a BJJ competition, they cross-train.
@Xx5h34xX B.J.J came from Judo, so obviously there's going to be a lot of the same techniques. Judo is superior for it's takedowns, but B.J.J is great for the ground game. It also has some good takedowns though, don't get me wrong.
@Locpa1001 you dont need your shoulders actually... if you grapple on tight, and swing your upper body, he's legs will be sweeped automaticly, IF you hold on tight and turned him out of balance.
@garethtkd You're right "straightening" the leg is important to complete execution but it's not meant to hyper-extend the knee. This can result in serious injury.
If you have the right kuzushi ( off balance ) it will help you by slightly lifting both you and your partner which can give the extra edge you need to throw an experienced player. Many times when you execute tai otoshi the leg never makes contact at all. Esp. when executing a very low throw.
excellent

Watch Matt's right leg as he executes the trow... very important.... notice he straightens it at the last moment to hyperextend his opponent knee.
