The main problem with the review, is that he goes into the game, reviewing it as if we've never ever played a game before, let alone a fighter. People are entitled to their opinions, however, I think no one can make an intelligent review after an hour of play, I plat the demo too, and the combos are just bad-ass. The creation of moves is unique to fighting games (x-ray, power-ups, double-moves, etc.). I have noticed this is an extremely fast-paced game that makes for some heavy challenge when fighting online. You truly did compare this to other games way too much. Personally, I loved it. AND THE MOVE IS CALLED THE SPEAR!

when i downloaded the demo my first attempt was in the expert...i made it all the way with only 1round loss :( but i think the difficulty rises with each fight :D

Got the demo, fucking love it, very refreshing. I play SF competitively and I can say the game has meat to it. I like the way combos feel fluid. It's not robotic like Tekken. I'm pumped for it.
This game is not Street Fighter4....and Street Fighter 4 is not balanced at all....it's been re-released 3 times to fix balancing issues and Capcom still can't get it right...so please don't compare this game to SF4,SSF4, and SSF4 AE.

If you don't know anything about MK, why are you even reviewing this demo? You stated that a block button in a 2D game is weird, its been in all MK games since 1992. It's one of the many things that differentiates MK and SF.
Lastly, it is obvious you are a fan of Street Fighter and Tekken. You know the mechanics and gameplay to those games, but you hardly know MK. You did a biased review on a DEMO of a fighting game you hardly knew. Biased reviews are like no reviews at all.
You say the Pit stage is just "Pretty Good" are you kidding me, do you even realize how much time and effort it took to build that incredible looking stage. The detail of it is amazing and not just kind of cool. Its more like HOLY SH** wow!!!
Also you can indeed pause them whenever you want, (can not online though) also the combos revolve around knowing each combo string and effectively using them with the special moves while using regular attacks to set up the combo strings. I wouldnt know how you could have no clue what is going on I have been playing MK for awile and always thought it was similar to other never realized it was so different.
How would making it 8-button "retarded", maybe if you played the earlier ones you would understand the flip stance as well, in deception and deadly alliance flip stance was a essential part of stringing combos.
@lildread1 MK1-3, the classic 2D game games didn't have a "Flip Stance" button, let alone a "throw button", and the MK development team touted this game has a return to the classic 2D MK roots and gameplay. Didn't help they didn't release much system information about the game at all. I was expecting it to use the old LP/HP, LK/HK, block and run button layout.
What I'm wondering now is how this new layout is gonna work with the official MK arcade stick that uses the old arcade layout.
Mortal Kombat Ai is notoriously hard. I've been playing this game since MK 1 and honestly I don't really expect this game to be that good. MK games have usually been just fun and not been in the competitive seen. Hopefully I'm wrong but he is giving the perspective of a person who is comming to the title and trying to learn. seriously how are you going to compare Mortal Konbat to MVC3 and Street fighter, there has always been a block button the moves list have been like that since "deception" 1st dont call it a super meter 2nd the meter is consist of three specials the symbol "E" is no for "ex' I REPEAT ITS NOT AN EX MOVE it means "Enhance" the second symbol that looks like a lighting bolt is called "breaker" its use to break out of combos so you wont get rape that bad and the last is an Xray move STOP PLATING MK
How can this be an 8 button game... The arcade stick that comes with the bundle doesn't have 8 buttons.. I'm guessing you can do tag and flip stance etc, by hitting 2 buttons, like focus attacking and grabbing in SF4
There should be a run button like street fighter and when blocking it would be better to hold back then hold a button save the button for another special move. I am not a fan boy of street fighter or MK I happen to like fight night champion the best for me since I like boxing. But I do enjoy Mortal kombat and want to see it shine like street fighter which has been always beating Mk in the rating department. Dashing forward should stay and holding R1 and tap forward twice should be a run button.
@Archangel3127 It dose feel clunky with johnny Cage and subzero is a little slower but scorpion feels right. his moves are better then MKDC . The look of the game in color is duller then MKvsDC. I hope they can fix certain things. Make the gameplay more fluid and less clunky. Street Fighters moves are much more smooth looking while the MK characters are somewhat sloppy at times when falling to the ground from getting up from the ground needs to be fixed. I am buying MK9 and I hope it gets done

Getting an additional meter for first hit is a perfect example of slippery slope (sirlin term), which I think is awesome and will help MK be a more aggressive game and ultimately more exciting to both play and watch.
Appreciate the effort and showing footage, but between capturing offscreen footage and not knowing a damn thing about Mortal Kombat, I'd have to give this a huge "meh".

If you don't know anything about MK, why are you even reviewing this demo? You stated that a block button in a 2D game is weird, its been in all MK games since 1992. It's one of the many things that differentiates MK and SF.
Lastly, it is obvious you are a fan of Street Fighter and Tekken. You know the mechanics and gameplay to those games, but you hardly know MK. You did a biased review on a DEMO of a fighting game you hardly knew. Biased reviews are like no reviews at all.

You say the Pit stage is just "Pretty Good" are you kidding me, do you even realize how much time and effort it took to build that incredible looking stage. The detail of it is amazing and not just kind of cool. Its more like HOLY SH** wow!!!

Also you can indeed pause them whenever you want, (can not online though) also the combos revolve around knowing each combo string and effectively using them with the special moves while using regular attacks to set up the combo strings. I wouldnt know how you could have no clue what is going on I have been playing MK for awile and always thought it was similar to other never realized it was so different.

How would making it 8-button "retarded", maybe if you played the earlier ones you would understand the flip stance as well, in deception and deadly alliance flip stance was a essential part of stringing combos.

@lildread1 MK1-3, the classic 2D game games didn't have a "Flip Stance" button, let alone a "throw button", and the MK development team touted this game has a return to the classic 2D MK roots and gameplay. Didn't help they didn't release much system information about the game at all. I was expecting it to use the old LP/HP, LK/HK, block and run button layout.
What I'm wondering now is how this new layout is gonna work with the official MK arcade stick that uses the old arcade layout.

Mortal Kombat Ai is notoriously hard. I've been playing this game since MK 1 and honestly I don't really expect this game to be that good. MK games have usually been just fun and not been in the competitive seen. Hopefully I'm wrong but he is giving the perspective of a person who is comming to the title and trying to learn. So stop tripping on his review he actually wants to like the game.

@cupcake91244andboome It's a "first impression" on what he thinks of the game lol, not an actual review. He compares this to street fighter and tekken because those are games he plays. He is a competitive tekken player and previous soul calibur 2 world champion. Walk speed can play a role in balance between characters.

seriously how are you going to compare Mortal Konbat to MVC3 and Street fighter, there has always been a block button the moves list have been like that since "deception" 1st dont call it a super meter 2nd the meter is consist of three specials the symbol "E" is no for "ex' I REPEAT ITS NOT AN EX MOVE it means "Enhance" the second symbol that looks like a lighting bolt is called "breaker" its use to break out of combos so you wont get rape that bad and the last is an Xray move STOP PLATING MK

How can this be an 8 button game... The arcade stick that comes with the bundle doesn't have 8 buttons.. I'm guessing you can do tag and flip stance etc, by hitting 2 buttons, like focus attacking and grabbing in SF4

There should be a run button like street fighter and when blocking it would be better to hold back then hold a button save the button for another special move. I am not a fan boy of street fighter or MK I happen to like fight night champion the best for me since I like boxing. But I do enjoy Mortal kombat and want to see it shine like street fighter which has been always beating Mk in the rating department. Dashing forward should stay and holding R1 and tap forward twice should be a run button.

@Archangel3127 It dose feel clunky with johnny Cage and subzero is a little slower but scorpion feels right. his moves are better then MKDC . The look of the game in color is duller then MKvsDC. I hope they can fix certain things. Make the gameplay more fluid and less clunky. Street Fighters moves are much more smooth looking while the MK characters are somewhat sloppy at times when falling to the ground from getting up from the ground needs to be fixed. I am buying MK9 and I hope it gets done

Getting an additional meter for first hit is a perfect example of slippery slope (sirlin term), which I think is awesome and will help MK be a more aggressive game and ultimately more exciting to both play and watch.
