You are doing it the hard way. Usually you use the bolt head-side-up, thread on a nut, a washer, and a piece of flat stock with a hole drilled for the bolt. Lube a bit between washer and flat piece. You hold the bolt head still with a socket spanner and turn down the nut with your open end spanner until you meet resistance. Much less stress on the rivet nuts and they set in a consistent manner.
