  • I don't know about all of you, but I sure as hell know that just because I play trombone, won't stop me from picking the cello and rocking out on both instruments.

  • 1 word: E.P.I.C.

  • i wanted to play trombone so badly but i took up cello instead idk y

  • @MrTroll456 haha lol. i wanted to play the cello but picked trombone instead.lol.but i do know why I picked trombone and not cello :3

  • @112ACid why close one when you can play both? thats what i do

  • from a cello player - this is awesome.

  • This is my favorite movement from Bach! I loved everything about this version! I was wondering how you were going to pull off the chords, but you did :)

    Excellent work :)

  • I love the way you interpreted the chords on the trombone.

  • This peace is beautiful. I'm so excited because I'm going to play this soon (also on trombone)

  • @TDuNk2188 exactly! alot of people commenting here have no idea, a prelude is supposed to sound improvised, no problem with the rubato here at all!

  • very very good- thanks for the interpretation, working on it now.

  • wind instruments = nerdy. Guitar rocks.

  • @kisskisshoneyhoney

    Ignorant

  • @kisskisshoneyhoney Us wind instrument "nerds" are 10 times more likely to get a job then a guitar player.

  • @Tnova92 yeah, a job at starbucks.

  • @kisskisshoneyhoney uhh this trombone. your dumb, and harpsichord is the best instrument

  • @kisskisshoneyhoney = tardy. Guitar is rediculously overplayed. Wind instruments are becoming less and less common. Go play some pop crap

  • @kisskisshoneyhoney hey...hey... don't hate on us. We're just as awesome as any guitar player.

And you guys can be pretty good.

  • Beautiful

  • Great Sound ! More please.

  • Stop quarelling and just know that playing trombone in bach's is an enjoyable way of passing time in summer :D Enjoy playing! and don't give a damn to what people think as long as you enjoy playing it. :DDDDDD

  • I'm going to be playing this in april for a solo and ensemble festival but I'm taking much slower. I think he played it beautifully but he was so mechanical about it. I just have a different take on the piece...

  • @superstar4567 this was not a "mechanical" interpretation at all! Did you listen to it? It's very expressive and rubato - listen again!

  • regaldrifter- you are full of $h#!T. This is awesome!

  • @regaldrifter You are saying he is double timing it? I don't think so, mayhaps you should check your metronome.

  • @regaldrifter ha, maybe you just have to slow it down because your not as good as him...

  • wow that takes ALOT of skill to play on a trombone and even the instrument it was written for...they player has my respect.

  • This is amazingly done!

As for the fact that it is played on trombone, who cares, if a musician can play it let them. For music to continue on it has to be flexible, and transcribing to different instruments is one way of being flexible. I prefer to think of trombone as being the cello of the brass world anyway, it has a mellow tone that can go high and low. I love playing trombone and am in fact looking at one of Bach's cello pieces to play at the moment on trombone (oh the blasphemy).

  • haha, my teacher has me playing this on Bari Sax!

  • GOOD!

  • Superb!!!

  • music is music, they are like words on a page and the idea that music is played on one instument is like saying that you can paint a picture only if your black, because other races would paint an ugly picture but infact that painting might be different, and beautiful . transcribing music to other instruments gives us a different perspective on a piece. by the way you have very good articulation, and I enjoyed listening. I am going to play this piece. on trombone.

  • Amazing performance!

  • exelente que sonido mas dulce

  • So many people making a fuss over him playing cello music on trombone. The Bach Cello Suites are a major part of a trombone players repertoire, for performance as unaccompanied solos or as practice lit. Good job on this one. It's my favorite.

  • I played this on the trombone myself, the only thing I would have to complain about, is the reverb of the room.

  • Hey everyone, how about this.....Love music for what it is, no one wrote a rule book saying the others cannot play music with different instruments, maybe the guy loves Bach and he plays trombone so in a skill level point he just want to see if he can do it, and did it awesome I might say, every instrument has it's technical difficulty, and for some people to play challenging stuff is rewarding, in other words just love music for what it is and stop hating :P

  • Playing music on an instrument different from the originally composed version doesn't ruin it ilovebach1685. I'm transposing Bach's Partita No. 1 right now from violin to trombone, doesn't mean I'm ruining it. It's just played from a different perspective.

  • Yeah totally. In the Baroque period it was standard practice for musicians to play music. I mean... For whatever instrumentation. There were lots of works written for ´Violin, Flute or Recorder´, for instance.

Arranging the harpischord part of Brandenburg Concerto 5 for 56 different flutes might be missing the point. But this person here is a musician. Playing music.

Bach´s only objection might be the lack of improvisation.

  • I never heard this played on the cello, but it sounds great on the trombone!

  • this didn't ruin it.

  • if you have a problem take it up with lafosse!

  • cmon man in Bachs time it wasnt uncommon to transcribe pieces to other instruments.Bach himself did it.

  • so does that mean you dislike the orchestrated version of pictures at the exhibition because its composed for a different instrument?

  • ilovebach?

    you obviously don't.

in case you haven't noticed, this IS bach.

  • Absolutely beautiful performance! I thoroughly enjoyed your musical interpretation! Beautiful control over the low range, and beautiful warm tone. I really like the fact you play with what is supposed to be "bad posture", but it doesn't seem to affect your playing in any way... Dave Taylor, need I say more...

  • I enjoyed your performance.

  • Some of you think you could do this better, so i presume you can play this better or just shut up...i would just say it was beautiful except some low tons were a little suspended and not in whole character...but that is nearly not worth mentioning....well done:)

  • Yeah, he's playing to the floor. He'll get back ache.

  • buen trabajo es muy bonito

  • its just my opinion, grounded to my flavor, of course. i know that a lot of people like to play and hear this kind of rubato... but i don't like that. in baroque music - as the word itself tells - its about other things than romantic playing - I think....

  • Amazing

  • Beautiful!!

  • does this piece have tenor clef in it? also what trombone is he using? shire?

  • whether a piece has tenor cleff in it or not depends on the author that arranged it.

its not that high though if i recall it correctly it goes up to f1 or g1. what kind of trombone you play is pretty unimportant

  • It's an Edwards Trombone

  • slight disturbance in the lower register toward the end, otherwise I loved it for the consistancy in pleasing sound.

  • Practice! (probably)

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • Bach? :-S

  • I enjoyed that!

  • interesno, eto takaya "traktovka" ili prosro problemi s ritmom?

  • Very nicely played. What a musical performance!

  • It's as if there are people hanging out on this website waiting underneath the slimey cracks for the sole purpose of making negative comments.

  • listen to a cello performance it is still a musical piece

  • One thing I can say about his posture... is that it does not effect his playing... Amazing job! Also he might be doing it on purpose, so the sound is not so direct, sounding more like a cello. Dave Taylors posture doesnt bother me... so how could his?

P.S. Listen to his tromobone quartet

  • The Bach Cello Suites should be just as mandatory on trombone as they are on cello. They're so fun to play, and not only are they great exercises, they have a lot of the stuff that you need to play jazz too!

  • i agree!

  • actually. pointing the horn down DOESNT help...dunno where you got that. It actually constricts airflow, bud. That's why his tone has a slight "ee". His hand-air timing is also a little bit off. Other than that, though, greatly playing.

  • True, but I guess he's doing it since the music stand is low. He's doing it to be able to read the music sheet.

  • MUY BONITO

  • I didn't say he wasn't a pro, but whether you're a pro or an amateur, pointing the bell to the ground affects the sound!

The laws of the universe don't change just because you're a professional!

  • beautiful...

  • This is played too fast for my tastes. Some of your louder low notes have too much edge for any cello suite. Again, just my opinion.

  • Wow, great sound! What horn are you playing on? It almost looks like one of the older model Conn 88H's.

P.S. why are you burying your sound into the ground? get that bell up!

  • Pointing the horn down puts the throat in a more natural position to breathe. Better air flow = better sound. Great job on the suite!

  • Actually pointing the throat down, depending on the degree, constricts the throat. However, at his angle the issue is not the flow of air (which is obviously fine) but more the direction of sound.

  • I was at that concert. He was on a high stage in a big church like hall and was playing to the seats. The camera was on the second floor balcony much higher then everyone else in the hall. From the seats it didn't look (or sound) like he was burying his sound into the ground.

  • you are probably really really good....

i dont' know, i think the suites just suite cello more than trombone. :/

    great job though.
